- FIG. 1 although the case where the crash box 30 is provided with the joining surfaces 40a, 41a, 40b, and 41b mentioned later is shown, the outline when not having the joining surfaces 40a, 41a, 40b, and 41b is shown with a broken line together .
- the crash box 30 includes a metal cylinder 31.
- the crash box 30 may be configured only by the cylinder 31 and has a mounting plate joined to one end or both ends of the cylinder 31 for mounting to a bumper reinforcement or a side member. May be. By having the mounting plate, the crash box 30 can be detachably mounted.
- Bumper reinforcement is joined to one end 31a of the crash box by appropriate means such as welding.
- the other end 31b is preferably detachably attached to a side member forming a part of the body shell of the automobile body, either directly or indirectly through the mounting plate.
- the crash box 30 receives an impact load from one end 31a in the axial direction of the cylindrical body 31 toward the other end 31b via a bumper reinforcement.
- the cylindrical body 31 has a quadrangular basic cross-sectional shape. That is, the “basic cross-sectional shape” in the present invention means a quadrangular cross-sectional shape that forms an outline excluding a groove portion that protrudes toward the inside in the cross-section of the cylindrical body 31. As shown in FIG. 2 (a) and FIG. 2 (b), it means a quadrangle defined by the corner portion 32 to the corner portion 35. When the R portion is formed or when joining surfaces 40a, 41a, 40b, and 41b described later shown in FIG. 1 are formed, it is defined by four intersections of four sides of a quadrangle that defines the outline of the cylinder. Means a virtual rectangle.
- the basic cross-sectional shape is a pair of corner portions 32, 33 arranged opposite to each other and an imaginary line L1 connecting the pair of corner portions 32, 33 to 80 ° to 100 °. And a pair of other corner portions 34 and 35 arranged to intersect at an angle.
- the intersecting angle is preferably 85 ° or more and 95 ° or less, and more preferably substantially orthogonal.
- the crash box 30 is a ridge line portion having a high rigidity that forms an outline of a cross-sectional shape in the direction connecting the pair of corner portions 32 and 33 and the direction connecting the other pair of corner portions 34 and 35. It has a quadrangular basic cross-sectional shape in which the corner portions 32 to 35 are arranged.
- the line connecting the pair of corner portions 32 and 33 and the line connecting the other pair of corner portions 34 and 35 are substantially orthogonal as a preferred embodiment of the present invention, but 80 ° It suffices to intersect at an angle of 100 ° or less, and it is desirable to intersect at an angle of 85 ° to 95 °.
- the polygonal cross section that is the cross-sectional shape of the crash box 30 that is the cylindrical body 31 is configured by an angle that forms a ridge line portion in the cylindrical body 31 and a side that is a plane portion between the ridge line portions in the cylindrical body 31.
- a load is applied in the axial direction of the cylindrical body 31 and a load acts on this cross section, the ridge line portion and the flat surface portion are deformed out of plane (deformation toward the outside of the closed cross section).
- the ridge line portion having high rigidity generates out-of-plane deformation smaller than that of the plane portion having relatively low rigidity with respect to the ridge line, and also causes compressive strain. Thereafter, as the applied load increases, the amount of out-of-plane deformation also increases in the ridge line portion, eventually the ridge line portion buckles and the ridge line portion breaks, and plastic buckling deformation occurs.
- the crush box 30 absorbs impact energy by repeating these series of deformations several times to cause plastic buckling deformation in the axial direction and collapse.
- This series of deformation behavior changes depending on the direction of the input load. For example, when a load in an oblique direction with respect to the axial direction of the crash box 30 is input, the amount of out-of-plane deformation of the ridge line portion is increased and compressive strain is compared to when a load is input in the axial direction. Becomes smaller.
- the compressive strain generated in the ridge line portion is reduced as much as possible, a large out-of-plane deformation occurs, the ridge line portion is bent with a large curvature radius, and the entire crash box 30 is bent.
- the crash box 30 is easily bent.
- the crash box 30 has the following characteristics. It is effective to determine the cross-sectional shape.
- the cylindrical body 31 undergoes multiple plastic buckling deformations, and the impact absorption energy is determined by the load history generated at that time. Is done. In other words, the amount of impact energy absorbed is determined by the number of plastic buckling deformations that occur continuously.
- the buckling wrinkle generated by the buckling deformation generated in the ridge line part is expanded to the flat part, and the buckling wrinkle is generated in the flat part. Thereafter, the buckling wrinkles generated in this plane portion are overlapped, and the process proceeds to the next buckling deformation (n + 1) occurring in another part in the axial direction.
- the interval from the n-th buckling occurrence to the (n + 1) -th buckling occurrence, that is, the buckling wavelength, is affected by the size of wrinkles generated by the buckling of the ridge portion of the deformation as described above.
- the size of the wrinkles is governed by out-of-plane deformation that occurs in the flat portion. Therefore, in order to improve the impact energy absorption performance by the plastic buckling behavior with a short buckling wavelength, it is effective to reduce the out-of-plane deformation that occurs in the plane portion.
- the impact load is input.
- the cross-sectional circumferential length of the cylindrical body 31 on the side of the one end portion 31a to which the impact load is input is made smaller than the sectional circumferential length of the cylindrical body 31 on the side of the other end portion 31b. This is very important.
- the present invention is based on these principles I to V as well as the invention disclosed in Patent Document 8, and further includes elements that enhance robustness.
- the cross-sectional shape of the cylindrical body 31 is substantially symmetrical to at least one of the virtual line L1 that passes through the pair of corner portions 32 and 33 and the virtual line L2 that passes through the other pair of corner portions 34 and 35.
- the cylindrical body 31 is composed of a metallic cylindrical body 31 having a cross-sectional shape having a square basic cross-sectional shape defined by the corner portions 32 to 35.
- the metal include ordinary steel and high-tensile steel, but are not limited thereto, and may be appropriately selected according to specifications required for the crash box 30.
- the basic cross-sectional shape of the crash box 30 is a shape substantially symmetric with respect to the virtual line L1 passing through the pair of corner portions 32 and 33. Furthermore, it is desirable that the shape is substantially symmetric with respect to an imaginary line L2 passing through the other pair of corner portions 34 and 35. This is because the higher the symmetry, the higher the performance against oblique loads from various input directions. However, it is not necessary to be completely symmetrical in a geometric sense, and the degree of symmetry may be appropriately determined according to the specifications required for the crash box 30.
- an oblique load in the first direction for example, the vehicle width direction
- a direction substantially orthogonal to the first direction for example, the vertical direction
- the crash box 30 In order for the crash box 30 to stably generate plastic buckling deformation even when the load is input from such an oblique direction, the entire bending deformation (bending) caused by the bending moment is suppressed and input is performed. It is important that the generated impact load causes continuous plastic buckling deformation with a short buckling wavelength similar to that when the impact load is input in the axial direction of the cylindrical body 31. This is because when the entire cylindrical body 31 undergoes bending deformation, the buckling wavelength is long. Therefore, corner portions 34 and 35 having high rigidity are arranged at positions corresponding to the outer edges where the load acts.
- An internal angle ⁇ 1 formed by the pair of corner portions 32 and 33 is 90 ° or more and 150 ° or less. Further, the internal angle ⁇ 2 formed by the other pair of corner portions 34 and 35 is not less than 30 ° and not more than 90 °. The reason for this will be explained.
- the rigidity of the corner part 32 to the corner part 35 which is the ridge line part is determined by the arc length existing in the ridge line part, and when the corner part 32 to the corner part 35 is set with a specific curvature radius, the arc length is It changes depending on the inner angle of the portion 32 to the corner portion 35. Therefore, in order to cause plastic buckling deformation by the impact load without causing the entire bending of the crash box 30 with respect to the bending moment generated by the impact load input from an oblique direction, a pair of corner portions 32, The angle ⁇ 1 of the inner angle formed by 33 is 90 ° or more and 150 ° or less.
- the radius of curvature of the corner R portion is determined in a range that takes into account the manufacture and design space of the crash box (1.5 mm to 10.0 mm or less) ), The arc lengths of the corner portions 32 and 33 become too short to secure desired rigidity, and the targeted plastic buckling deformation cannot be generated.
- the angle ⁇ 2 of the inner angle formed by the other pair of corner portions 34, 35 is linked to the angle ⁇ 1 of the inner angle formed by the pair of corner portions 32, 33, so that the angle ⁇ 1 is 90 ° or more and 150 ° or less. Accordingly, the angle is set to 30 ° or more and 90 ° or less.
- the angle ⁇ 1 is 90 ° to 120 °
- the angle ⁇ 2 is 60 ° to 90 °.
- the rigidity of the angle theta 1 of the ridge line and the angle theta 2 of the ridge line is kept proper balance, more stable buckling deformation can be obtained as a whole tubular body 31.
- the angle theta 1 formed by the pair of corner portions 32 and 33, another pair of corner It is desirable that the angle is larger than the angle ⁇ 2 formed by the portions 34 and 35.
- the crash box 30 has a shape capable of increasing the degree of load of the oblique load in the corner portion 32 to the corner portion 35 which are ridge lines having high rigidity, that is, the corner portion 32 to the corner portion with respect to the input direction of the oblique load.
- the cross-sectional shape in which 35 is disposed is used. Further, by adopting a cross-sectional shape in which the corner portion 32 to the corner portion 35 are provided, it is possible to reduce out-of-plane deformation caused by a load input from an oblique direction and to compress the corner portion 32 to the corner portion 35. The strain can be increased.
- the cylindrical body 31 is provided with one or more (this embodiment) extending in the longitudinal direction and projecting inward on each of two sides sandwiching at least one of the pair of corner portions 32, 33.
- groove portions 36, 37, 38, 39 of one groove portion are provided on each of the four sides.
- the groove portions 36 to 39 are preferably provided on all four sides, but may be provided only on two sides sandwiching at least one of the pair of corner portions 32 and 33. Further, the groove portions 36 to 39 are provided at positions excluding the pair of corner portions 32 and 33 and the other pair of corner portions 34 and 35 so that an impact load is applied when the cylindrical body 31 is loaded. It is desirable for the plastic deformation to be surely performed in a bellows shape by crushing.
- the grooves 36 to 39 will be described.
- the groove portions 36 to 39 have a plate thickness t (mm), a length W (mm) of each side, a number N of the groove portions 36 to 39, and N pieces on each side of the quadrangle having the basic cross-sectional shape.
- the average value Wc (mm) of the opening widths of the groove portions 36 to 39 satisfies the relationship of the following equation (1), preferably the relationship of the following equation (1 ′).
- the crash box 30 can be plastic buckled and deformed in a bellows shape with a short wavelength in the post-buckled shape, and high impact absorption energy absorption performance can be obtained. The reason for this will be explained.
- the crash box 30 undergoes continuous plastic buckling (progressive buckling), and in order to increase the amount of shock absorption energy determined by the load history caused by the deformation. It is effective to suppress the load fluctuation of the material, that is, to shorten the buckling wavelength.
- This buckling wavelength is closely related to the out-of-plane deformation (displacement) caused by the impact load in the cross section of the cylindrical body 31 constituting the crash box 30. If the amount of this out-of-plane deformation is large, the buckling wavelength becomes long. When the out-of-plane deformation is small, the buckling wavelength is shortened. Therefore, in order to reduce the out-of-plane deformation occurring in the cross section of the cylinder 30 constituting the crash box 30, the width of each side constituting the cross section, that is, the distance between the adjacent corner portions 32 to 35 is set. Just make it smaller.
- the distance W between the corner portion 32 to the corner portion 35 is set to be less than 50 times the plate thickness t of the cylindrical body 31. That is, in the crush box 30, when there is a side where the grooves 36 to 39 are not provided, the plate thickness t (mm) and the length W (mm) of the side are expressed by the following formula (2). Satisfy.
- the length of the plane portion is divided by providing the groove portions 36 to 39 on the sides where the distance W between the corner portions 32 to 35 is 50 times or more the plate thickness t, respectively.
- the sides excluding the grooves 36 to 39 satisfy the relationship of the above formula (2).
- planar portions are further divided by providing the groove portions 36 to 39 in the planar portion. Also good.
- the groove portions 36 to 39 are desirably provided at positions that do not include the corner portions 32 to 35 that serve as starting points of plastic buckling deformation due to the load while suppressing the overall bending deformation when an oblique load is applied. .
- the groove portion 36 to the groove portion 39 are provided in the flat surface portion in order to obtain a short buckling wavelength.
- a new ridge line part is formed, and the width of the flat part is controlled within a range where a short buckling wavelength can be obtained.
- the average value Wc (mm) of the opening widths of the thirty-sixth through thirty-six grooves 39 preferably satisfies the relationship of the formula (1): 5 ⁇ (W ⁇ N ⁇ Wc) / (N + 1) / t ⁇ 50. ): It is desirable to satisfy the relationship of 5 ⁇ (W ⁇ N ⁇ Wc) / (N + 1) / t ⁇ 30.
- the depth dc of the groove part 36 to the groove part 39 is preferably greater than 10 mm.
- the curvature radius R of all the corner portions 32 to 35 is larger than any curvature radius Rc of the corner portions constituting the groove portions 36 to 39. The reason for this will be explained.
- the cross-sectional secondary moment of the thin-walled ring is governed by the diameter and thickness, and the cross-sectional secondary moment increases as the diameter increases, and the section modulus that affects the bending strength also increases as the diameter increases. That is, in order to suppress the bending deformation against the bending moment generated when a load is applied to the crash box 30 from an oblique direction, the corner portions 32 to 32 that support the input load are positioned on the outline of the cross section. It is effective to increase the cross-sectional secondary moment of the corner portion 35.
- or the groove part 39 is enlarged, the deformation resistance in the groove part 36 thru
- the radius of curvature R of all the corners 32 to 35 that most governs the overall bending strength of the crash box 30 is set to the radius of curvature Rc of the corners constituting the grooves 36 to 39. It is desirable to make it larger.
- the cross-sectional circumferential length of the cylindrical body 31 on the one end portion 31a side of the cylindrical body 31 is the sectional circumferential length of the cylindrical body 31 on the other end portion 31b side. It is smaller than (the outer peripheral length of the cylindrical body 31 in FIG. 2B).
- the circumferential length of the cross section of the cylindrical body 31 increases monotonously at a constant ratio from one end portion 31a toward the other end portion 31b. Thereby, when an impact load is applied to the cylindrical body 31, the crushing starts from the one end portion 31a side. At this time, the ridge line connecting the end portion 31a and the end portion 31b is linear.
- the cylindrical body 31 has a rectangular ratio (this ratio) that is a ratio of the longest diagonal length W2 to the shortest diagonal length among the polygonal diagonal lines constituting the basic cross-sectional shape. In the specification, it is referred to as “flatness”.) Changes at the axial position of the cylinder 31.
- the height of the opposing slopes constituting the grooves 36 to 39 that is, the lengths of the oblique sides (36 a, 36 b) of the groove 36 in FIGS. 2A and 2B are different, and the oblique sides of the groove 37.
- the lengths of (37a, 37b) are different, the lengths of the oblique sides (38a, 38b) of the groove portion 38 are different, and the lengths of the oblique sides (39a, 39b) of the groove portion 39 are different.
- the cylindrical body 31 includes all the sides 46-1 to 46-22 constituting the cross section at one end 31a, and the opposite sides 47-1 to side constituting the cross section at the other end 31b. It is formed in parallel with 47-22.
- Tubular body 31 the difference from one end 31a toward the other end portion 31b, and an angle theta 2 formed by the angle theta 1 with another pair of corner portions 34, 35 formed by the pair of corner portions 32, 33 Is preferably increased or decreased.
- the cylindrical body 31 may be configured by joining the first steel plate 40 and the second steel plate 41 by appropriate means (for example, laser welding, spot welding, etc.).
- the joining surfaces 40a, 41a, 40b, 41b formed in a planar shape for joining the first steel plate 40 and the second steel plate 41 are connected to the ends of the first steel plate 40 and the second steel plate 41, respectively. And may be formed in the vicinity of the other pair of corner portions 34 and 35.
- the cylindrical body 31 has another pair of corner portions 34 and 35 as virtual points.
- the cylindrical body 31 is formed by assembling two parts obtained by bending a thin plate by appropriate means such as welding or adhesion.
- a tubular material may be integrally designed by a method such as hydraulic forming or extrusion.
- the crash box 30 includes planar joining surfaces 40a, 41a, 40b, and 41b, and the first steel plate 40 and the second steel plate 41 are overlapped and joined by the joining surfaces 40a, 41a, 40b, and 41b. It is constituted by.
- the width W ′ of the joining surfaces 40 a, 41 a, 40 b, 41 b is more than 5 times less than 50 times, preferably less than 30 times the plate thickness t of the cylindrical body 31 forming the crash box 30.
- the length W (mm) of the side in said Formula (1), (1 '), (2) is this joining surface 40a, 41a, 40b. , 41b, the length of the side after being shortened.
- the joint surfaces 40a, 41a, 40b, and 41b are overlapped joints that are edges of one steel plate, or overlapped joints between a plurality of steel plates, particularly, an impact load due to a collision from an oblique direction is generated.
- the bending rigidity of the cylindrical body 31 when loaded is improved. Thereby, it becomes possible to suppress the occurrence of the bending deformation of the entire cylindrical body 31 at the midpoint of the bellows-like plastic buckling deformation.
- the joining of the overlap joint is continuous joining such as adhesion using a structural adhesive or continuous welding such as laser welding, for example, rather than intermittent joining such as spot welding, for example. This is desirable because the bending rigidity of the cylindrical body 31 can be further increased.
- the material of the cylinder 31 is not limited to a steel plate, and may be configured by using a material other than a metal such as a non-ferrous metal material such as an aluminum alloy or a resin.
- the cross-sectional circumferential length of the cylindrical body 31 is sure to cause crushing from the one end portion 31a side by making the one end portion 31a side constituting the collision end smaller than the other end portion 31b side. It is possible to improve the stability of the shock absorbing performance at the time of collision. For this reason, it is desirable that the entire cylindrical body 31 is formed in a tapered shape in the axial direction.
- the cross-sectional circumferential length of the cylindrical body 31 on the one end portion 31a side in this specification, “cross-sectional circumferential length” means the crossing of the cylindrical body

- the cross-sectional circumferential length of the cylindrical body 31 monotonously increases at a constant rate from the one end portion 31a side to the other end portion 31b side. For example, it may be increased or decreased in the middle between one end 31a and the other end 31b, and this does not impair the effects of the present invention. . In short, it is only necessary that the cross-sectional circumference at one end 31a is smaller than the cross-sectional circumference at the other end 31b. Examples of increasing or decreasing in the middle of one end and the other end are as follows. As shown in FIG. 3, the cross section in the vicinity of the collision end, which is one end portion, is formed so as to be abruptly reduced to facilitate deformation at the initial stage of the collision. As a result, the initial deformation can be made appropriate, and the subsequent deformation can be appropriately guided subsequently. In addition, the fixed end, which is the other end, basically does not buckle, so that it is not necessary to change the cross-sectional shape and can be constant.
- the cross-sectional peripheral length ratio defined as (the cross-sectional peripheral length of the one end portion 31a) / (the cross-sectional peripheral length of the other end portion 31b) is 0.6 or more and 0.9 or less.
- the cross-section circumference ratio is less than 0.6, the load at the initial stage of crushing after the start of the collision becomes excessively small, and the energy absorption performance at the initial stage of the collapse is lowered, while the cross-section circumference ratio is more than 0.9.
- the stabilization of buckling due to the suppression of bending deformation at the time of an oblique collision, which is the effect of the present invention, is small, and bending is likely to occur.
- the increase in the cross-sectional circumference of the cylinder 31 is vertically symmetric as viewed from the side of the vehicle body.
- the increase in the cross-section circumference is not limited to this form.
- the degree of increase in the cross-sectional perimeter in the region above the horizontal plane passing through may be different from the degree of increase in the cross-sectional perimeter in this lower region.
- the cross-sectional circumferential length of the cylindrical body 31 on the one end portion 31a side is smaller than the cross-sectional circumferential length of the cylindrical body 31 on the other end portion 31b side, an impact load is input to the one end portion 31a by the front bumper reinforcement. Then, the crushing surely proceeds from the one end portion 31a to the other end portion 31b, and finally the cylindrical body 31 is buckled and deformed in a bellows shape to effectively absorb the impact energy. Is possible.
- the rigidity in the vicinity of the other end portion 31b side with respect to the bending in the up-down direction. Is increased compared to the collision end side, thereby suppressing the vertical bending deformation that occurs in the crash box during crushing. As a result, the bending force propagating to the side member is suppressed. Further, it is possible to reduce the vibration and noise of the vehicle body caused by the vibration in the vertical direction of the engine transmitted through the engine mount bracket disposed on the upper surface of the front side member.
- the tapered shape imparted to the cylindrical body 31 is a shape that changes toward a certain direction rather than the entire cross-section in the axial direction being a similar shape, specifically, the flatness is changed in the axial direction.
- the tapered shape imparted to the cylindrical body 31 is a shape that changes toward a certain direction rather than the entire cross-section in the axial direction being a similar shape, specifically, the flatness is changed in the axial direction.

- FIG. 4 (b) shows the present invention. It is explanatory drawing which shows an example of the end surface shape of the other edge part (anti-collision end) 31b of other examples 30-1 of the crush box which concerns.
- one end 31a when the flatness of one end 31a is designed to be greater than the flatness of the other end 31b, one end 31a The shape of becomes more flat.
- the rigidity in the direction where the distance is short between the pair of corner portions 32 and 33 and the other pair of corner portions 34 and 35 at the other end portion 31b Since the remaining distance is lower than the rigidity in the long direction, the high rigidity side restrains the cylinder body 31 that has been subjected to the impact load from falling early, while the low rigidity side starts as one end. Crushing is easily started from the portion 31a.
- Whether to increase the flatness of one end 31a or the other end 31b may be appropriately selected in consideration of the use as a crash box, the performance to be secured, and the like.
- FIG. 5 shows that the crush box is formed when the opposing slopes (36a, 36b), (37a, 37b), (38a, 38b), (39a, 39b) constituting the grooves 36 to 39 are the same. It is explanatory drawing which shows not being materialized.

- the reason why the lengths of the hypotenuses are different in FIG. 5 is that the slopes (36a, 36b), (37a, 37b), (38a, 38b), (39a, 39b) have the same height.
- the cylindrical body 31 is required to have robustness because the ridgeline 42 to the ridgeline 45 (see FIG. 1) of the cylindrical body 31 constituted by the corner portions 32 to 35 are twisted. Not suitable for crash boxes.
- the inclined surfaces (36 a, 36 b), (37 a, 37 b), (38 a, 38 b), (39 a) that constitute the grooves 36 to 39 are formed.
- 39b) by making the heights (the lengths of the oblique sides in the cross section) different from each other, all the sides 46-1 to 46-22 constituting the cross section at one end 31a and the other end It is possible to design the opposing sides 47-1 to 47-22 constituting the transverse section of the portion 31b so as to have a parallel relationship without twisting.
- the crash box 30 according to the present invention is configured as described above. It is preferable that the crash box is mounted on the automobile body by being arranged symmetrically with respect to the vehicle width center in the width direction of the front part or the rear part of the automobile body.
- the crash box 30 is composed of a metal cylinder 31 having a closed cross-sectional shape generally having an overall length of about 80 mm to 300 mm, and is joined to the bumper reinforcement by an appropriate means such as welding. In this way, it is detachably attached to the region set on the end side of the left and right side members that support the bumper reinforcement through the mounting plate.
- the crash boxes 30 are arranged in the vehicle width direction, two in total in the vehicle width direction with respect to the bumper reinforcement.
- the crash box 30 according to the present invention is preferably arranged so that the direction in which the virtual line L1 connecting the pair of corner portions 32 and 33 is oriented is substantially in the vertical direction or substantially in the horizontal direction.
- the crash box 30 has a bellows-like shape in preference to the side member forming the body shell due to the impact load input to the bumper reinforcement even in the case of an oblique collision as well as a frontal collision. Absorbs impact energy by plastic buckling deformation and crushing, thereby preventing damage to the body shell and reducing repair costs during light collisions, and effectively absorbing impact energy with side members. Crew can be protected.
- FIGS. 1 to 4, 6, and 7 are cases in which a groove is provided in each of the four basic sides 36 to 39 of the cross section. You may make it provide a groove part only in two sides (36, 37), (38, 39), (36, 38) or (37, 39) which pinches either.

Abstract
