また、非極性溶媒中に着色剤を添加する例として、特許文献5には、デカン、デカリンもしくはテトラリン等の非極性溶媒中に、有機顔料および/または無機顔料、溶媒可溶性のまたは溶媒分散可能なポリマー分散剤、及び、アルデヒド樹脂またはケトン樹脂を添加した着色液体を使用することが開示されている。

本発明で使用する着色剤は、顔料(A)及び非水溶媒に可溶なポリマー(B)の存在下で、該非水溶媒に可溶でありかつ重合後に不溶もしくは難溶になる少なくとも1種の重合性不飽和単量体(C)を重合させて得る変性顔料であり、具体的には、顔料(A)表面に、非水溶媒に可溶なポリマー(B)と、非水溶媒に可溶でありかつ重合後に不溶もしくは難溶になる少なくとも1種の重合性不飽和単量体(C)とを重合することにより得られるポリマー(P)を有する変性顔料である。
なお、ポリマー(P)とは、最終的に変性顔料をコートするポリマーを総称したものであり、具体的には、ポリマー(B)と重合性不飽和単量体(C)の重合体とを総称したものである。
本発明で使用する顔料(A)は、公知慣用の有機顔料あるいは無機顔料の中から選ばれる少なくとも一種の顔料である。また、本発明は未処理顔料、処理顔料のいずれでも適用することができる。
キナクリドン系化合物顔料としては、例えばC.I.Pigment Violet 19、同42、C.I.Pigment Red 122、同202、同206、同207、同209、同282、C.I.Pigment Orange 48、同49等の顔料が挙げられる。
アントラキノン系化合物顔料としては、例えばC.I.Pigment Blue 60、C.I.Pigment Yellow 24、同108、C.I.Pigment Red 168、同177、C.I.Pigment Orange 40等の顔料が挙げられる。
ジオキサジン系化合物顔料としては、例えばC.I.Pigment Violet 23、同37等の顔料が挙げられる。
イソインドリン系化合物顔料としては、例えばC.I.PigmentYellow 139、同185、C.I.Pigment Orange 66、C.I.Pigment Brown 38等の顔料が挙げられる。
ジケトピロロピロール系化合物顔料としては、例えばC.I.PigmentRed 254、同255等の顔料がある。
縮合アゾ系化合物顔料としては、例えば C.I.Pigment Yellow 93、同94、同95、同128、同166、C.I.PigmentOrange 31C.I.Pigment Red 144、同166、同214、同220、同221、同242、同248、同262、C.I.Pigment Brown 41、同42等の顔料がある。
アニリンブラック顔料としては、C.I.Pigment Black 1があげられる。
本発明で使用する非水溶媒は、脂肪族および/または脂環式炭化水素系溶剤を必須とする有機溶剤である。脂肪族および/または脂環式炭化水素系溶剤としては、例えば、n-ヘキサン、n-ヘプタン、n-オクタン、n-ノナン、n-デカン、n-ドデカン、イソオクタン、イソノナン、イソデカン、イソドデカン、シェルケミカルズ社製品の「ロウス」、エクソンモービルケミカル社製品の「アイソパーC」、「アイソパーE」、「アイソパーG」、「アイソパーH」、「アイソパーL」、「アイソパーM」、出光興産化学株式会社製品の「IPソルベント1016」、「IPソルベント1620」、「IPソルベント2028」もしくは「IPソルベント2835」、丸善石油化学株式会社製品の「マルカゾール8」等が挙げられる。
混合して使用する際には、前記脂肪族および/または脂環式炭化水素系溶剤の使用量を、50質量%以上とすることが好ましく、より好ましくは60質量%以上である。
本発明で使用する非水溶媒に可溶なポリマー(B)は、後述の重合性不飽和単量体(C)と重合あるいは架橋させることが可能なことから、より好ましくは前記重合性不飽和基を有することが好ましい、そのようなポリマーとしては重合性不飽和基を含有するアクリル樹脂(BF)があげられる。
本発明で使用する非水溶媒に可溶な重合性不飽和基を含有するアクリル樹脂(BF)とは、具体的には、炭素原子数4個以上のアルキル基を有するアルキル(メタ)アクリレートを主成分とする重合性不飽和単量体の共重合体に重合性不飽和基を導入したポリマー、あるいは、炭素原子数4個以上のアルキル基を有するアルキル(メタ)アクリレートを主成分とする重合性不飽和単量体の共重合体からなるマクロモノマーなどを指称するものである。
また、アルキル(メタ)アクリレート以外の使用が可能な重合性不飽和単量体として、スチレン、α-メチルスチレン、p-t-ブチルスチレンもしくはビニルトルエン等の芳香族系ビニル系モノマー、ベンジル(メタ)アクリレート、ジメチルアミノ(メタ)アクリレート、ジエチルアミノ(メタ)アクリレート、ジブロモプロピル(メタ)アクリレートもしくはトリブロモフェニル(メタ)アクリレート等の(メタ)アクリレート類、マレイン酸、フマル酸もしくはイタコン酸等の不飽和ジカルボン酸と1価アルコールとのジエステル類、安息香酸ビニル等のビニルエステル類等が挙げられ、前記のアルキル(メタ)アクリレート類とともに共重合して使用することができる。
これらのアルキル(メタ)アクリレート以外の使用が可能な重合性不飽和基含有単量体の単独の重合体は該非水媒体での溶解性が低いため、アルキル(メタ)アクリレートとランダム重合体として使用されることが好ましい。
中でも、アクリル酸やメタクリル酸等のカルボキシル基含有単量体あるいはジメチルアミノエチルメタクリレートやジメチルアミノプロピルアクリルアミド等のアミノ基含有単量体を共重合しておき、そのカルボキシル基あるいはアミノ基とグリシジルメタクリレート等のグリシジル基と重合性不飽和基を有する単量体を反応させる方法が最も簡便であり好ましい。
本発明で使用する、該非水溶媒に可溶でありかつ重合後に不溶もしくは難溶になる重合性不飽和単量体(C)とは、具体的には例えば、メチル(メタ)アクリレート、エチル(メタ)アクリレート、n-プロピル(メタ)アクリレートもしくはi-プロピル(メタ)アクリレート、または(メタ)アクリロニトリル、酢酸ビニル、塩化ビニル、塩化ビニリデン、フッ化ビニルもしくはフッ化ビニリデンのようなオレフィン類などの、いわゆる反応性極性基(官能基)をもたないビニル系モノマー類;(メタ)アクリルアミド、ジメチル(メタ)アクリルアミド、N-t-ブチル(メタ)アクリルアミド、N-オクチル(メタ)アクリルアミド、ジアセトンアクリルアミド、ジメチルアミノプロピルアクリルアミドもしくはアルコキシ化N-メチロール化(メタ)アクリルアミド類などのアミド結合含有ビニル系モノマー類;
前記顔料(A)と前記ポリマー(B)は、重合を行う前に混合することが好ましい。混合方法としては、例えば、ホモジナイザー、ディスパー、ビーズミル、ペイントシェーカー、ニーダー、ロールミル、ボールミル、アトライター、サンドミル等を使用することが可能である。本発明においては、使用する顔料の形態は問わず、スラリー、ウエットケーキ、粉体のいずれの形態でもかまわない。即ち、本発明の製造方法においては、ウエットケーキのような水を含む顔料であっても使用可能である。
その際、前記ポリマー(B)の使用量は目的に応じて適宜最適化されるので特に限定はないが、通常は顔料(A)100部に対して1~200部を使用し、より好ましくは20~150部、さらに好ましくは30~120部である。
また、前記重合性不飽和単量体(C)の使用量も、目的に応じて適宜最適化されるので特に限定はないが、通常は顔料(A)100部に対して1~200部を使用し、より好ましくは5~50部、さらに好ましくは5~30部である。
また、前記重合性不飽和単量体(C)あるいは重合開始剤を溶解した前記重合性不飽和単量体(C)は、重合温度に達した状態で滴下法により加えることもできるが、昇温前の常温の状態で加え、充分に混合された後に昇温し、重合させる方法が安定であり好ましい。
重合温度は通常60℃~130℃の範囲である。また顔料(A)が有機顔料の場合、重合温度があまり高温では該顔料の変質や結晶成長などの形態変化が著しい場合があるため、その場合は70~100℃で重合することが好ましい。
前記非極性溶媒に対する前記変性顔料の添加量は1~50重量%の範囲が好ましく、より好ましくは2~30重量%の範囲である。
前記変性顔料は、顔料(A)表面に、非水溶媒に可溶なポリマー(B)と、非水溶媒に可溶でありかつ重合後に不溶もしくは難溶になる少なくとも1種の重合性不飽和単量体(C)とを重合することにより得られるポリマー(P)を有しているので、媒体中に安定に顔料分散させることができ、より色素濃度の高い着色液体とすることができる。従って前記変性顔料を使用した着色液体は、変性させない顔料を使用した場合と比較すると、同じ配合量であってもより高い着色度を得ることができる。
本発明の着色液体には、その他、本発明の効果を損なわない範囲において、界面活性剤、分散剤、湿潤剤、増粘剤、保存料、粘度安定剤、粉砕助剤、充填剤、沈殿防止剤、光保護剤、酸化防止剤、殺生物剤、脱気剤/消泡剤、発泡抑制剤、ベーキング防止剤等添加剤を加えても良い。これらは、導電率を増加させない程度にとどめておくことが望ましい。例えば使用可能な界面活性剤としては、ポリアルキレングリコール及びそれらの誘導体等が挙げられる。また分散剤としては、ポリアミド、ポリエステル、ポリアクリレート、polyvinyloxazolidones、ポリスチレン、ポリエポキシド、ポリウレタン、およびポリビニルハロゲン等が挙げられる。市販の分散剤としては、LUBRIZOL社のソルスパース、EVONIK社のTegosperse、BASF社のEFKA、ビックケミー社のDISPERBYK等が挙げられるが、これらに限定されるものではない。
本発明の着色液体は、公知の顔料分散体の製造方法によって得ることができる。一例を挙げると、前記樹脂で被覆された色素、及び非極性溶媒、必要に応じ前記添加剤を加えた混合物をビーズミル等の通常の分散機を用いて前記樹脂で被覆された色素を分散することで得ることができる。また、予め、ビーズミル等の通常の分散機を用いて高濃度の分散液(ミルベース)を作製後、更に非極性溶媒で所望の粘度に混合攪拌して、希釈することで調整できる。添加剤の添加のタイミングは、種類によって分散する前や分散する後等、適宜選択することができる。
本発明の分離液状着色組成物は、前記着色液体、及び、前記着色液体とは混和しない極性溶媒とを含有する。
混和しない極性溶媒としては水、グリコール、アルコール、ポリオール、エーテル、エステル、ケトン、アセタール、ケタール、ラクトン類、炭酸塩、ラクタム、ウレタン(カルバメート)、尿素、ピロリジン、ピロリドン、スルホン、スルホキシド、アミド等であり、具体的には例えば、水、メタノール、エタノール、イソプロパノール、n-プロパノール、1,2-プロピレングリコール、1,3-プロピレングリコール、エチレングリコール、トリエチレングリコール、テトラエチレングリコール、グリセリン、1,4-ブチレングリコール、ジエチレングリコール、ジプロピレングリコール、エチレンカーボネート、プロピレンカーボネート、1,2-ブチレンカーボネート、1,2-シクロヘキサンカーボネート、グリセリンカーボネート、ジメチルカーボネート、ジエチルカーボネート、
添加量としては、所望の比誘電率に応じて適宜選択することができる。例えば10重量%以内の範囲内で使用することができる。
前記極性溶媒は、必要に応じて着色されていてもよい。着色剤は色剤として使用されているものなら特に限定はなく、前述の被覆された色素として使用する有機顔料、無機顔料、染料等が使用できる。
デバイスとして使用する場合は、前記非極性溶媒に使用する色味とは異なる色味の色素を選択することが好ましい。中でも色純度と色濃度が高く、透明性の高いものが好ましい。また、シアン(C)、マゼンタ(M)、イエロー(Y)、必要に応じて緑や白等に着色した液体とし、前記着色液体として黒顔料を使用した変性顔料を使用したブラック(K)に着色した液体をエレクトロウエッティングデバイスのピクセルに導入したものを使用することで、フルカラーの画像表示をさせることも可能である。
本発明の着色液体は、外部電場を利用して着色液体を移動させるエレクトロウエッティング方式のデバイスに好適に使用可能である。特に色素として顔料を使用しているので耐光性等に優れる。中でも、画像表示デバイスに使用すること、本発明の効果である分散安定性により、長期間にわたるデバイスの安定駆動を最大限に発揮でき好ましい。
前記非導電性の着色液体を使用できるエレクトロウエッティング方式のデバイスの一例を挙げる。即ち、電極を設けた層の間に表示用空間を備え、該表示用空間には、前記着色液体、及び、前記着色液体とは混和しない極性溶媒とを含有する分離液状着色組成物が充填されている。
前記表示用空間の表示側の前記層は着色液体が透視できる透明等の層とされる一方、非表示側の前記層は光散乱層とされ、前記着色液体への電圧印加時に前記表示側空間に前記着色液体がエレクトロウエッティング現象で移動され或いは表示側の表面積を増大させて着色表示させる。
流入時には光が透過せずに着色画像が表示され、流出時には光が透過し前記光散乱体の光散乱による白色表示が行われ、即ち通過する光の明るさを変調して表示が行われる。
前記3端子構造では、上部空間の上面あるいは/および下面に上部電極、下部空間の上面あるいは/および下面に下部電極、前記白色散乱シートの貫通孔の内面に沿って配置される共通電極を設け、共通電極と上部電極、該共通電極と下部電極に接続すると共に回路開閉手段がそれぞれ介設された上部側電源回路と下部側電源回路を備え、上部側電源回路の回路開閉手段と下部側電源回路の回路開閉手段とを交互に開閉させ、前記上部空間への前記着色液体の流入・流出が切り替えられる表示装置としてもよい。
該3端子構造とすると、上部空間への着色液体の流入・流出を上部側電源回路と下部側電源回路との交互の開閉による行うため、上部空間への着色液体の流入・流出速度を迅速に行うことができる。
また、該誘電体層の表面に、電圧の印加時には親水層となる撥水膜を積層し、着色液体に撥水膜が接触する構成とすると、着色液体を高速で移動あるいは表面積を増減できるため、動画表示として好適とものとできる。
温度計、攪拌機、還流冷却器および窒素ガス導入管を備えた四つ口フラスコに、酢酸ブチル950gを仕込んで80℃に昇温し、同温度に達したところで、アクリル酸ブチルを936g、ジメチルアミノエチルメタクリレート50g、2,2’-アゾビス(2-メチルブチロニトリル)(「V-59」和光純薬工業(株)製)7gからなる混合物を4時間かけて滴下し、滴下終了後90℃に昇温し、10時間保持して反応を続行した。
反応液の温度を50℃に下げ、t-ブチルピロカテコールの0.2gを酢酸ブチルの20部に溶解した溶液を加え、さらにグリシジルメタクリレートの15gを加えた後に、80℃まで昇温し、同温度で10時間反応を行う事で、非水溶媒に可溶なポリマー(B-1)の溶液を得た。
樹脂合成方法1のポリマー(B-1)における原料の種類及び配合を表1に記載の通りに変更した以外は樹脂合成方法1に従い、ポリマー(B-2)~(B-5)の溶液を得た。
Printex45(エボニックデグサ社製のカーボンブラック)100g、ポリマー(B-1)を13g、1.25mmジルコニアビーズ600g、ヘプタン300gをポリエチレン広口瓶に入れ、ペイントシェイカー(東洋精機株式会社)で90分間混合を行った。ヘプタンの200gで希釈した後、ジルコニアビーズを除去し、顔料混合液を作成した。得られた顔料混合液400gを温度計、攪拌機、還流冷却器および窒素ガス導入管を備えたセパラブルフラスコに仕込んだ後、メタクリル酸メチル2.8gおよびエチレングリコールジメタクリレート5.2gの重合性単量体組成物にV-59を1.6g溶解したものおよびヘプタン250gを加えた。室温で30分間攪拌を続けた後、80℃に昇温し、同温度で15時間反応を続けた。
降温後、濾過を行なう事で、ポリマー処理顔料と重合溶剤を分離した。得られたポリマー顔料を熱風乾燥機により100℃で5時間乾燥後、粉砕機にて粉砕を行なう事で、変性顔料(1)を得た。
#2300(三菱化学社製のカーボンブラック)15g、ポリマー(B-2)の溶液6.2gを1.25mmジルコニアビーズ100g、デカリン69gをポリエチレン広口瓶に入れ、ペイントシェイカー(東洋精機株式会社)で90分間混合を行った。デカリン38gで希釈した後、ジルコニアビーズを除去し、顔料混合液を作成した。得られた顔料混合液111gを温度計、攪拌機、還流冷却器および窒素ガス導入管を備えたセパラブルフラスコに仕込んだ後、メタクリル酸メチル0.9gおよびエチレングリコールジメタクリレート1.7gの重合性単量体組成物にV-59を0.5g溶解したものを加えた。室温で30分間攪拌を続けた後、80℃に昇温し、同温度で15時間反応を続け、固形分比率(以下N.V.と称す)約16質量%の変性顔料(2)のデカリン分散液を得た。
変性顔料(2)は必要に応じてろ過、または遠心分離等で洗浄を行った。
変性で使用する原料の種類および配合を表1または表2に記載の通りに変更した以外は参考例2(表における合成方法2)に従い、変性顔料(3)~(10)のデカリン分散液を得た。得られた変性顔料は、必要に応じてろ過、または遠心分離等で洗浄を行った。
前記得られた変性顔料(1)または変性顔料(2)~(10)のデカリン分散液を使用し、着色液体(1)~(10)、及び、分離液状着色組成物(2)~(10)を得た。
着色液体は、変性顔料(1)については、変性顔料(1)を5g、デカリン95gを仕込み、超音波分散機で2時間超音波分散を行って着色液体(1)とした。また着色液体(2)~(10)は、変性顔料(2)~(10)のデカリン分散液44gにさらにデカリン56g追加し、着色液体(2)~(10)とした。
着色液体(1)~(10)の電気伝導度は、Scientifica社製の電気伝導度計「model 627」を使用し、室温下で測定を行った。結果を表3,4に示す。
着色液体(1)~(9)の分散粒子径は、大塚電子(株)社製のレーザー粒子径解析システム「FPAR-1000」で、室温下で測定した。
また、着色液体(10)については、NIKKISO社製の粒子径測定装置「MicrotrackUPA-150」を使用し、室温下で測定を行った。結果を表3,4に示す。
分離液状着色組成物(2)~(10)を手で30回攪拌し、72時間後のエチレングリコールと着色液体(2)~(10)との分離性を目視で確認した。
分離の状態を下記の基準で5段階に分けて評価した。結果を表3,4に示す。
5:エチレングリコールへの着色は見られず、界面は明瞭で二層に分離している。
4:エチレングリコールへの着色は見られず、界面はやや不明瞭である。
3:エチレングリコールへの着色が見られ、界面はやや不明瞭である。
2:エチレングリコールへの着色が見られ、界面は不明瞭である。
1:二層に分離しない。
また、顔料を変更した実施例6~10のいずれも、電気伝導度が大幅に低減していることが確認できた。また、分離液状着色組成物の分離性も良好であった。
実施例1において、変性顔料(1)をPrintex45に変更した以外は実施例1と同様にして、即ち、Printex45を5g、デカリン95gを仕込み、超音波分散機で2時間超音波分散を行って着色液体(H1)を得た。着色液体(H1)の電気伝導度を測定した結果、563pS/cmであった。
この結果より、カーボンブラックの変性顔料を使用した実施例1は、電気伝導度が低減していることが確認できた。
エチレングリコールとの分離性試験では、静置中にPrintex45がデカリン溶液中で沈降してしまい、分離性試験を行うことはできなかった。
実施例1において、変性顔料(1)を#2300に変更した以外は実施例1と同様にして、即ち、#2300を5g、デカリン95gを仕込み、超音波分散機で2時間超音波分散を行って着色液体(H2)を得た。着色液体(H2)の電気伝導度を測定した結果、20000pS/cm以上であり、正確な電気伝導度を測定することが不可能であった。
この結果より、カーボンブラックの変性顔料を使用した実施例は、電気伝導度が低減していることが確認できた。
エチレングリコールとの分離性試験では、静置中に#2300がデカリン溶液中で沈降してしまい、分離性試験を行うことはできなかった。
実施例1において、デカリンをキシレンに変更した以外は実施例1と同様にして、即ち、変性顔料(1)を5g、キシレン95gを仕込み、超音波分散機で2時間超音波分散を行って着色液体(11)を得た。着色液体(11)中の変性顔料の平均粒子径をFPAR-1000(大塚電子(株)製)で測定したところ327nmであった。また、10mlバイアルに、エチレングリコール5g、及び、着色液体(11)を0.5g仕込み、分離液状着色組成物(11)を作製し、前記分離性評価を行ったところ、エチレングリコールへの着色がなく、分離性も良好であった。
実施例11において、変性顔料(1)をPrintex45に変更した以外は実施例11と同様にして、即ち、Printex45を5g、キシレン95gを仕込み、超音波分散機で2時間超音波分散を行って着色液体(H3)を得た。着色液体(H3)中の顔料は不安定であり、分散後すぐにPrintex45が沈降してしまい、平均粒子径を測定することができなかった。
エチレングリコールとの分離性試験では、静置中にPrintex45がキシレン溶液中で沈降してしまい、分離性試験を行うことはできなかった。
実施例11および比較例3の結果より、変性顔料(1)は非極性溶媒中での分散安定性に優れ、これを使用した着色液体(11)は、エチレングリコールとの分離性が良好であることが確認できた。
変性で使用する原料の種類および配合を表5に記載の通りに変更した以外は参考例2(表における合成方法2)に従い、変性顔料(11)のドデカン分散液を得た。得られた変性顔料は、ろ過、または遠心分離等で洗浄を行った。
変性で使用する原料の種類および配合を表5に記載の通りに変更した以外は参考例1(表における合成方法1)に従い、変性顔料(12)を得た。
前記得られた変性顔料(11)のドデカン分散液を使用し、着色液体(12)、及び分離液状着色組成物(12)を得た。
着色液体(12)は、変性顔料(11)のドデカン分散液68.5gにさらにドデカン31.5gを追加し、着色液体(12)とした。
前記得られた変性顔料(12)を使用し、着色液体(13)、及び、分離液状着色組成物(13)を得た。
着色液体(13)は、変性顔料(12)1.5gにキシレン18.5gを仕込み、超音波分散機で2時間超音波分散を行って着色液体(13)とした。
MA8を1g、デカリン19gを仕込み、超音波分散機で2時間超音波分散を行って着色液体(H4)を得た。分離液状着色組成物(H4)は、10mlバイアルに、エチレングリコール5g、及び、前記着色液体(H4)0.5gを仕込み、分離液状着色組成物(H4)とした。
分離液状着色組成物(12)、(13)、(H4)を前記分離性評価方法にて評価した。結果を実施例11、比較例1~3の結果とともに表6に示した。
変性で使用する原料の種類および配合を表7に記載の通りに変更した以外は参考例2(表における合成方法2)に従い、変性顔料(13)~(15)のテトラデカン分散液を得た。なお、Fastogen Blue TGRはDIC(株)社製フタロシアニン顔料、Cinquasia Magenta L4400はBASF社製キナクリドン顔料、Fast Yellow7413は山陽色素(株)社製アゾ顔料である。
前記得られた変性顔料(13)~(15)のテトラデカン溶液を遠心し、変性顔料とテトラデカン溶液を分離した。変性顔料1.5gとトルエン8.5gを仕込み、超音波分散機で2時間超音波分散を行うことで着色液体(14)~(16)とした。
10mlバイアルに、Fastogen Blue TGRを0.5g、ソルスパース17000(ルーブリゾール社製)を0.3g、及び、トルエン9.2gを仕込み、超音波分散機で2時間超音波分散を行うことで着色液体(H5)とした。
使用する顔料を表8の通りに変更した以外は比較例5に従い、着色液体(H6)、(H7)とした。
分離液状着色組成物(14)~(16)、及び、(H5)~(H7)を手で10回攪拌し、30分後の水と着色液体(14)~(16)、及び、(H5)~(H7)との分離性を目視で確認した。
5:水への着色は見られず、界面は明瞭で二層に分離している。
4:水への着色は見られず、界面はやや不明瞭である。
3:水への着色が見られ、界面はやや不明瞭である。
2:水への着色が見られ、界面は不明瞭である。
1:二層に分離しない。
Claims (13)
- 外部電場によって液体を移動もしくは変形させることにより、色あるいは明るさを変調する光変調方式のデバイスに使用する着色液体であって、
前記着色液体が、非極性溶媒及び着色剤を含み、前記着色剤が、顔料(A)表面に、非水溶媒に可溶なポリマー(B)と、非水溶媒に可溶でありかつ重合後に不溶もしくは難溶になる少なくとも1種の重合性不飽和単量体(C)とを重合することにより得られるポリマー(P)を有する変性顔料であることを特徴とする着色液体。 - 前記着色剤が、顔料(A)と、非水溶媒と、非水溶媒に可溶なポリマー(B)を混合した後、少なくとも1種の重合性不飽和単量体(C)をさらに混合し重合させて得る変性顔料である請求項1に記載の着色液体。
- 前記非水溶媒に可溶なポリマー(B)が、重合性不飽和基を含有するアクリル樹脂(BF)である、請求項1または2に記載の着色液体。
- 前記重合性不飽和基を含有するアクリル樹脂(BF)が、炭素原子数4個以上のアルキル基を有するアルキル(メタ)アクリレートを主成分とする重合性不飽和単量体の共重合体に重合性不飽和基を導入したポリマー、又は炭素原子数4個以上のアルキル基を有するアルキル(メタ)アクリレートを主成分とする重合性不飽和単量体の共重合体からなるマクロモノマーである、請求項3に記載の着色液体。
- 前記重合性不飽和単量体(C)が、多官能重合性不飽和単量体を含む請求項1~4のいずれかに記載の着色液体。
- 前記非水溶媒が脂肪族炭化水素溶剤及び/又は脂環式炭化水素溶剤を含む、請求項1~5のいずれかに記載の着色液体。
- 前記顔料(A)がカーボンブラックである請求項1~6のいずれかに記載の着色液体。
- 前記光変調方式が、エレクトロウエッティング方式又はエレクトロフルイディック方式である請求項1~7のいずれかに記載の着色液体。
- 請求項1~8のいずれかに記載の着色液体、及び、前記着色液体とは混和しない極性溶媒とを含有することを特徴とする分離液状着色組成物。
- 外部電場によって液体を移動もしくは変形させることにより、色あるいは明るさを変調する光変調方式のデバイスに使用する請求項9に記載の分離液状着色組成物。
- 前記光変調方式が、エレクトロウエッティング方式又はエレクトロフルイディック方式である請求項9または10に記載の分離液状着色組成物。
- 請求項1~8のいずれかに記載の着色液体の、外部電場によって液体を移動もしくは変形させることにより、色あるいは明るさを変調する光変調方式のデバイスにおける画像を生成するための着色剤としての使用。
- 前記変調方式がエレクトロウエッティング方式又はエレクトロフルイディック方式である請求項10に記載の使用。
