(4)リング状の突起がOリングから形成される場合、シールケースにOリング溝を加工するだけで、既存のOリングを装着できるので、製造コストの低減を図ることができる。
図1は、本発明の実施の形態1に係るメカニカルシール1の構成を示す図であり、回転軸2の軸中心を通る平面を切断面とした縦断面図である。なお、図1においては、左側が機内側であり、右側が大気側である。
メカニカルシール1は、回転軸2が貫通しているハウジング3の軸孔部3aに装着される形式のシール装置であって、摺動面の外周から内周方向への被密封流体の漏れを防止するインサイド形のメカニカルシールである。
メカニカルシール1の主な構成としては、第1シールハウジング4、第2シールハウジング5、シールケース6、固定側密封環7、環状のパッキン8、回転側密封環9、カラー10を有する。
シールケース6は、第1シールハウジング4との間にOリング12及び13を介在させて機内側と大気側とを密封した状態で、第2シールハウジング5にノックピン14を介して装着されている。シールケース6の断面形状は、おおむね矩形であって、第1シールハウジング4と接する外周面、第2シールハウジング5と接する背面、及び回転軸2と間隙を持って対向する内周面が略ストレート形状をし、機内側に臨む表面の径方向の中間部にパッキン8を収容できるリング状のパッキン収容凹部15が形成され、径方向の内周側に固定側密封環7の後部を収容できるリング状の固定側密封環収容凹部16が形成されている。
シールケース6のパッキン収容凹部15の固定側密封環収容凹部16寄りの近傍には、メカニカルシールの組立時においてパッキン8の背面に当接してパッキン8の内周側のシールリップ部を固定側密封環7の背後に押圧するリング状の突起20が設けられている。
また、固定側密封環7の外周面は、パッキン8と密接する段部19が形成されている。
固定側密封環7は、炭化珪素、カーボン、セラミック等の材質により構成される。
回転側密封環9は、内周側に段差22が形成されており、この段差22がOリング21を介してカラー10に密封嵌合されており、その大気側を指向する端面であって固定側密封環7に対向する面が摺動面として形成されている。
カラー10の回転側密封環9の側面と当接する側面には、軸方向大気側に突出するように周方向に等配に複数のノックピン23が形成されており、また回転側密封環9には、このノックピン23に対応するように、周方向に等配の複数の係合溝24が形成されている。このノックピン23が回転側密封環9の係合溝24に係止することにより、回転側密封環9の回転軸2に対する相対的な回動が阻止されて、回転軸2に保持される。また、カラー10の内周面にはOリング25が装着されている。
回転側密封環9は、炭化珪素、カーボン、セラミック等の材質により構成される。
その結果、対向する回転側密封環9の摺動面と固定側密封環7の摺動面とが所定の圧力で密接する。そして、回転軸2が回転することにより回転側密封環9のみが回転し、回転側密封環9及び固定側密封環7の摺動面が密接状態で摺動し、シールする。
図2において、パッキン8は、固着部8aがシールケース6のパッキン収容凹部15に嵌着され、シールリップ部8bが固定側密封環7の段部19に当接してパッキン自身の弾性力により固定側密封環7を回転側密封環9の方に押圧するように組立てられるが、その際、シールケース6のパッキン収容凹部15の固定側密封環収容凹部16寄りに設けられたリング状の突起20がメカニカルシールの組立時においてパッキン8の背面に当接してパッキン8の内周側のシールリップ部8bを固定側密封環7の背後に押圧する。すなわち、メカニカルシールの組立時において、突起20がパッキン8を圧縮するような寸法関係になるような状態で、シールケース6に対してパッキン8及び固定側密封環7が取り付けられる。
突起20は金属製であり、シールケース6が金属製の場合、シールケース6と一体的に形成されるようにしてもよい。突起20をシールケース6に一体に設けることができるので、部品点数の削減及び製造コストの低減を図ることができる。突起20の先端は角部をR形状に加工されており、パッキン8との当接状態を安定したものとするとともに、長期間の使用においてもパッキン8を損傷させることがない。パッキン8の硬度は「JIS K6523」規格で硬度50~70の範囲が好ましく、より好ましくは、自動車のタイヤの硬度65より少し低硬度の55~64の範囲である。
図3は、本発明の実施の形態2に係るメカニカルシールの要部を拡大して示す縦断面図である。
図3において、図2と同じ符号は図2と同じ部材を示しており詳しい説明は省略する。
リング状の突起30は、ニトリルゴム(NBR)、水素化NBR(HNBR)、エチレンプロピレンゴム(EPDM)、パーフロロエラストマ、ポリテトラフルオロエチレン(PTFE)などのゴム状弾性材からなり、断面が横長の長方形をしたリング状部材を、シールケース6に設けられたリング状の凹部31に基部を嵌合し、例えば、焼付けにより固着される。リング状の突起30をシールケース6に焼付けにより設けることができるので、部品点数の削減及び製造コストの低減を図ることができる。突起30の先端は角部をR形状に加工されており、パッキン8との当接状態を安定したものとするとともに、長期間の使用においてもパッキン8を損傷させることがない。パッキン8はゴム状弾性材製であり、その硬度は「JIS K6523」規格で硬度50~70の範囲が好ましく、より好ましくは、自動車のタイヤの硬度65とほぼ同じ硬度の63~70の範囲である。一方、突起30の硬度は、同じJIS規格で、硬度50~70の範囲が好ましく、より好ましくは、自動車のタイヤの硬度65より少し低硬度の55~64の範囲である。
その他、パッキン8及び突起30の硬度を、「JIS K6523」規格で硬度50~70の範囲、より好ましくは、自動車のタイヤの硬度65より少し低硬度の55~64の範囲内で同一に設定してもよい。
図4は、本発明の実施の形態3に係るメカニカルシールの要部を拡大して示す縦断面図である。
図4において、図2と同じ符号は図2と同じ部材を示しており詳しい説明は省略する。
突起40は、Oリングからなり、シールケース6に設けられたOリング溝41から約半分程度突出した状態で装着される。リング状の突起40がOリングから形成されるので、シールケース6にOリング溝41を加工するだけで、既存のOリングを装着できるので、製造コストの低減を図ることができる。
Oリングは、ニトリルゴム(NBR)、水素化NBR(HNBR)、エチレンプロピレンゴム(EPDM)、パーフロロエラストマ、ポリテトラフルオロエチレン(PTFE)などのゴム状弾性材から選択される。
図5(a)は、実施の形態1のリング状の突起が金属から形成され、パッキンがゴム状弾性材から形成されている場合を、図5(b)は、実施の形態2のリング状の突起及びパッキンがゴム状弾性材から形成されるものにおいてパッキンのゴム硬度がリング状の突起のゴム硬度より高い場合を、図5(c)は、実施の形態2のリング状の突起及びパッキンがゴム状弾性材から形成されるものにおいてパッキンのゴム硬度とリング状の突起のゴム硬度が略同一である場合を、図5(d)は、実施の形態3のリング状の突起がOリングから形成されている場合を、また、図5(e)は、従来技術の場合を示している。
図5(a)~(d)は、パッキンがリング状の突起により軸方向に0.5mm圧縮された状態で組立られたものであり、図5(e)は、パッキンとリング状の突起とが軸方向の0.5mmの隙間を有して組立られたものである。
なお、図5において、左側の図はパッキンの内周にグリースが塗布されている場合を、右側の図はパッキンの内周にグリースが塗布されていない場合を示している。
図5(b)の実施の形態2のリング状の突起及びパッキンがゴム状弾性材から形成されるものにおいてパッキンのゴム硬度がリング状の突起のゴム硬度より高い場合、図5(a)と比べて、グリースが塗布されていない場合、被密封流体の圧力が低い範囲では押付力が高くなるものの、全体として被密封流体の圧力変化があっても摺動面の押付力のバラツキは小さい。
図5(c)の実施の形態2のリング状の突起及びパッキンがゴム状弾性材から形成されるものにおいてパッキンのゴム硬度とリング状の突起のゴム硬度が略同一である場合、図5(a)とほぼ同等のものとなっており、押付力の減衰は少なく、所定の押付力が得られている。
図5(d)の実施の形態3のリング状の突起がOリングから形成されている場合、図5(a)~(c)と比べて、密封流体の圧力が高くなるとやや摺動面の押付力が大きくなるが、押圧荷重の減衰は少なく、所定の押付力の範囲となっている。
これに対して、図5(e)の従来技術の場合、グリースが塗布されているものでは、被密封流体の圧力が低い範囲において押付力の減衰の大きい範囲が存在し、グリースが塗布されていないものでは、被密封流体の圧力が高くなると押付力が零となり、パッキンの機能を果たさなくなっている。

Claims (8)
- 回転軸とハウジングとの間に装着されて摺動面の外周から内周方向への被密封流体の漏れを防止するインサイド形のメカニカルシールであって、回転軸側に装着された回転側密封環とシールケース側に装着された固定側密封環とを備え、外周側の保持部がシールケースに嵌着するとともに内周側のシールリップ部が固定側密封環に密着して固定側密封環を回転側密封環へ押圧する環状のパッキンを設け、メカニカルシールの組立時においてパッキンの背面に当接してパッキンを固定側密封環側に押圧するリング状の突起をシールケースに設けることを特徴とするメカニカルシール。
- シールケースに設けられるリング状の突起が金属から形成され、パッキンがゴム状弾性材から形成されることを特徴とする請求項1記載のメカニカルシール。
- リング状の突起がシールケースに一体に設けられることを特徴とする請求項2記載のメカニカルシール。
- シールケースに設けられるリング状の突起及びパッキンがゴム状弾性材から形成されることを特徴とする請求項1記載のメカニカルシール。
- パッキンのゴム硬度がリング状の突起のゴム硬度より高いことを特徴とする請求項4記載のメカニカルシール。
- パッキンのゴム硬度とリング状の突起のゴム硬度とが略同一であることを特徴とする請求項4記載のメカニカルシール。
- リング状の突起がシールケースに焼付けにより設けられることを特徴とする請求項4ないし6のいずれか1項に記載のメカニカルシール。
- シールケースに設けられるリング状の突起がOリングから形成され、パッキンがゴム状弾性材から形成されることを特徴とする請求項1記載のメカニカルシール。
