Description
図15は、本発明の燃料電池を開発する途上で作成された試作品の燃料電池の構成を示す要部概略断面図である。
[構成]
図1は実施の形態1に係る高分子電解質形燃料電池の要部概略構成の一例を示す断面図である。図2は、図1の高分子電解質形燃料電池の第1セパレータの一例を示す正面図である。図3は、図1の高分子電解質形燃料電池の第1セパレータの一例を示す背面図である。図1は、図2及び図3におけるI-I断面を示す。なお、これらの図は模式図であるので、高分子電解質形燃料電池の断面図(図1)とセパレータの正面図(図2)及び背面図(図3)とは、流路の位置、形状等が一致していない。これは、他の実施の形態及び変形例においても同様である。また、高分子電解質形燃料電池100の基本的な構成は周知であるので、以下では本発明と関連する構成を説明し、それ以外の説明は省略する。また、以下では、必要がない限り、アノード及びカソードに関連する要素について、アノード側であるかカソード側であるかを区別しないで説明する。
図12は膜触媒層接合体4における触媒層の形成態様の一例を示す平面図である。図12において、外側の矩形の破線はシール構造9の第2ガスケット部9bの内縁(内周)を示し、内側の矩形の破線はシール構造9の第1ガスケット部9aの内縁(内周)を示す。
図14(a),(b)は、ロールトゥロールプロセスにより製造された長尺の膜触媒層接合体からの片状の膜触媒層接合体4の切り出し態様の一例を模式的に示す斜視図である。
本実施の形態の高分子電解質形燃料電池100の製造方法は、膨潤性樹脂を、少なくとも高分子電解質膜1と第1触媒層2とを含む膜触媒層接合体において高分子電解質膜1の周縁部にある第1触媒層2の上に配置する配置工程を備えるのが好ましい。
次に、以上のように構成された高分子電解質形燃料電池100の動作を説明する。高分子電解質形燃料電池100は、発電運転時において、外部から一対の反応ガス(燃料ガス及び酸化剤ガス)が供給され、各セルの発電部(アノード及びカソード)において電力及び熱が発生する。一方、外部から冷却流体が供給され、各セルの発電部が所定の運転温度(例えば50℃以上90℃以下)に維持される。反応ガス自体に含まれる水分や、反応ガス同士が反応して生じる水分が添加されることにより、膨潤性樹脂の体積が膨張し、第1触媒層2と第1ガスケット部9aとの間の空隙が封止される。空気中における気体分子の拡散係数に対して、膨潤性樹脂中における気体分子の拡散係数は小さく、気体分子は膨潤性樹脂中の方が拡散しにくい。そのため「Cリーク」の経路となる第1触媒層2と第1ガスケット部9aとの間の空隙が、膨潤性樹脂により封止されることで、効果的に「Cリーク」が防止される。
図4は実施の形態1の変形例1に係る高分子電解質形燃料電池の要部概略構成の一例を示す断面図である。図5は、図4の高分子電解質形燃料電池の第1セパレータの一例を示す正面図である。図4は、図5におけるIV-IV断面を示す。本変形例1の高分子電解質形燃料電池100は、下記の構成以外は実施の形態1の高分子電解質形燃料電池100と同様に構成されている。
図6は本発明の実施の形態2に係る高分子電解質形燃料電池の要部概略構成の一例を示す断面図である。本実施の形態2の高分子電解質形燃料電池100は、下記の構成以外は実施の形態1の高分子電解質形燃料電池100と同様に構成されている。
図7は実施の形態2の変形例2に係る高分子電解質形燃料電池の要部概略構成の一例を示す断面図である。本変形例2の高分子電解質形燃料電池100は、下記の構成以外は実施の形態2の高分子電解質形燃料電池100と同様に構成されている。
図8は実施の形態2の変形例3に係る高分子電解質形燃料電池の要部概略構成の一例を示す断面図である。本変形例2の高分子電解質形燃料電池100は、下記の構成以外は変形例2の高分子電解質形燃料電池と同様に構成されている。
図9は実施の形態2の変形例4に係る高分子電解質形燃料電池の要部概略構成の一例を示す断面図である。本変形例4の高分子電解質形燃料電池100は、下記の構成以外は実施の形態2の高分子電解質形燃料電池100と同様に構成されている。
図10は実施の形態2の変形例5に係る高分子電解質形燃料電池の要部概略構成の一例を示す断面図である。本変形例5の高分子電解質形燃料電池100は、下記の構成以外は実施の形態2の変形例4の高分子電解質形燃料電池100と同様に構成されている。
実験例1では、図15に示した従来例における、フッ素イオン溶出速度を測定した。
次に上記のようにして得た膜触媒層接合体をホットプレス機を用いて熱処理(120℃、30分)を施した後に、80mm×80mmに打ち抜いて、電解質膜全面に触媒層が設けられた膜触媒層接合体を得た。
実験例2では、図7に示した変形例における、フッ素イオン溶出速度を測定した。
実験例3では、図8に示した変形例における、フッ素イオン溶出速度を測定した。
図11は実施の形態3に係る高分子電解質形燃料電池の要部概略構成の一例を示す断面図である。
なお、上記の各実施形態においては、セパレータ7に燃料ガス、酸化剤ガス、及び冷却水の各マニホールド孔を設けて積層した際に燃料ガス、酸化剤ガス、及び冷却水の各供給マニホールドが形成されるように構成した内部マニホールド方式のものを例示して説明したが、スタックの側面に燃料ガス、酸化剤ガス、及び冷却水の各供給マニホールドを設けた、所謂、外部マニホールド方式のものにも、同様に適用でき、同様の効果を得ることができる。

Claims (12)
- 一対の第1主面及び第2主面を有する略矩形状の高分子電解質膜と、
略矩形状であり、前記第1主面と対向し、かつ、前記高分子電解質膜の厚み方向から見て前記高分子電解質膜の少なくとも1辺の周縁部を覆うように延びる第1触媒層と、
略矩形状であり、前記第2主面と対向する第2触媒層と、
略矩形状であり、前記厚み方向と垂直な方向から見て前記第1触媒層を挟んで前記高分子電解質膜と反対側に、かつ、前記厚み方向から見て前記第1触媒層の周縁部より内方を覆うように延びる第1ガス拡散層と、
略矩形状であり、前記垂直な方向から見て前記第2触媒層を挟んで前記高分子電解質膜と反対側に、かつ、前記厚み方向から見て前記第2触媒層の周縁部より内方を覆うように延びる第2ガス拡散層と、
略矩形状であり、前記垂直な方向から見て前記第1ガス拡散層を挟んで前記高分子電解質膜と反対側に、かつ、前記厚み方向から見てその周縁部が前記高分子電解質膜の周縁の外側に位置するように配置された第1セパレータと、
略矩形状であり、前記垂直な方向から見て前記第2ガス拡散層を挟んで前記高分子電解質膜と反対側に、かつ、前記厚み方向から見てその周縁部が前記高分子電解質膜の周縁の外側に位置するように配置された第2セパレータと、
環状で略矩形状であり、前記厚み方向から見て前記第1ガス拡散層の周縁の外側に位置し、かつ、前記垂直な方向から見て前記高分子電解質膜の周縁部又は前記高分子電解質膜の周縁部にある第1触媒層と前記第1セパレータとの間に位置する第1ガスケット部と、環状で略矩形状であり、前記厚み方向から見て前記高分子電解質膜の周縁の外側に位置し、かつ、前記垂直な方向から見て前記第1セパレータと前記第2セパレータとの間に位置する第2ガスケット部と、を含むシール構造と、
水を添加すると体積が膨張する膨潤性樹脂からなり、かつ、前記垂直な方向から見て前記高分子電解質膜の周縁部にある第1触媒層と前記第1ガスケット部との間に位置する第1膨潤性樹脂部と、
を備える、高分子電解質形燃料電池。 - 前記シール構造は、さらに、環状で略矩形状であり、前記厚み方向から見て、前記第2ガス拡散層の周縁の外側に位置し、かつ、前記垂直な方向から見て前記高分子電解質膜の周縁部又は前記高分子電解質膜の周縁部に位置する前記第2触媒層と前記第2セパレータとの間に位置する第3ガスケット部を含み、
水を添加すると体積が膨張する膨潤性樹脂からなり、かつ、前記垂直な方向から見て前記高分子電解質膜の周縁部にある第2触媒層と前記第3ガスケット部との間に位置する第2膨潤性樹脂部を備える、
請求項1に記載の高分子電解質形燃料電池。 - 水を添加すると体積が膨張する膨潤性樹脂からなり、かつ、前記垂直な方向から見て前記第1触媒層の端と、前記高分子電解質膜の端と、前記第2触媒層の端とを覆う第3膨潤性樹脂部を備え、
前記第1膨潤性樹脂部と、前記第2膨潤性樹脂部と、前記第3膨潤性樹脂部とが、一体に構成されている、
請求項2に記載の高分子電解質形燃料電池。 - 前記膨潤性樹脂は、澱粉系樹脂、セルロース系樹脂、多糖類、ポリビニルアルコール系樹脂、アクリル酸系樹脂、アクリルアミド系樹脂、フッ素系スルホン酸樹脂、炭化水素系スルホン酸樹脂からなる群より選ばれた少なくとも一つの樹脂を含む、請求項1乃至3に記載の高分子電解質形燃料電池。
- 前記膨潤性樹脂は、アクリロニトリルグラフト重合体、アクリル酸グラフト共重合体、アクリルアミドグラフト重合体、セルロース-アクリロニトリルグラフト重合体、カルボキシメチルセルロース架橋体、ヒアルロン酸、ポリビニルアルコール架橋体、ポリビニルアルコール吸水ゲル凍結・解凍エラストマー、アクリル酸ナトリウム・ビニルアルコール共重合体、ポリアクリル酸ナトリウム架橋体、N-置換アクリルアミド架橋体、フッ素系スルホン酸樹脂、炭化水素系スルホン酸樹脂からなる群より選ばれた少なくとも一つの樹脂を含む、請求項1乃至3に記載の高分子電解質形燃料電池。
- 前記第1触媒層及び第2触媒層は、前記高分子電解質膜の4辺又は互いに対向する2辺の周縁部を覆うように延びている、請求項1~5のいずれか1項に記載の高分子電解質形燃料電池。
- 前記シール構造は、環状で略矩形状であり、前記厚み方向から見て前記第1ガス拡散層の周縁の外側に位置し、かつ、前記垂直な方向から見て前記高分子電解質膜の周縁部又は前記高分子電解質膜の周縁部にある第1触媒層と前記第1セパレータとの間に位置する前記第1ガスケット部としての第1ガスケットと、環状で略矩形状であり、前記厚み方向から見て前記高分子電解質膜の周縁の外側に位置し、かつ、前記垂直な方向から見て前記第1セパレータと前記第2セパレータとの間に位置する前記第2ガスケット部としての第2ガスケットと、を備える、請求項1に記載の高分子電解質形燃料電池。
- 前記シール構造は、さらに、環状で略矩形状であり、前記厚み方向から見て前記第2ガス拡散層の周縁の外側に位置し、かつ、前記垂直な方向から見て前記高分子電解質膜の周縁部又は前記高分子電解質膜の周縁部に位置する第2触媒層と前記第2セパレータとの間に位置する前記第3ガスケット部としての第3ガスケットを備えて構成される、請求項7に記載の高分子電解質形燃料電池。
- 前記シール構造は、環状で略矩形状であり、前記厚み方向から見て前記第1ガス拡散層の周縁の外側に位置し、かつ、前記垂直な方向から見て前記高分子電解質膜の周縁部又は前記高分子電解質膜の周縁部にある第1触媒層と前記第1セパレータとの間に位置する前記第1ガスケット部と、環状で略矩形状であり、前記厚み方向から見て前記高分子電解質膜の周縁の外側に位置し、かつ、前記垂直な方向から見て前記第1セパレータと前記第2セパレータとの間に位置する前記第2ガスケット部と、前記第1ガスケット部と前記第2ガスケット部とを接続する第1接続部と、を含む1つの枠状ガスケットにより構成される、請求項1に記載の高分子電解質形燃料電池。
- 前記枠状ガスケットは、さらに、環状で略矩形状であり、前記厚み方向から見て前記第2ガス拡散層の周縁の外側に位置し、かつ、前記垂直な方向から見て前記高分子電解質膜の周縁部又は前記高分子電解質膜の周縁部に位置する第2触媒層と前記第2セパレータとの間に位置する前記第3ガスケット部と前記第3ガスケット部と前記第2ガスケット部とを接続する第2接続部と、を含む、請求項9に記載の高分子電解質形燃料電池。
- 請求項1に記載の高分子電解質形燃料電池の製造方法であって、
膨潤性樹脂を、前記高分子電解質膜と前記第1触媒層とを含む膜触媒層接合体において前記高分子電解質膜の周縁部にある第1触媒層の上に配置する配置工程を備える、高分子電解質形燃料電池の製造方法。 - 前記配置工程の後に、前記膜触媒層接合体のうち、少なくとも前記膨潤性樹脂が配置された周縁部を加熱する加熱工程を備え、前記加熱工程における加熱が、前記膨潤性樹脂を軟化させると共に、前記高分子電解質膜に含まれる高分子電解質を分解しない温度で行われる、請求項11に記載の高分子電解質形燃料電池の製造方法。
