Description

光コネクタ及びフェルール
 本発明は、光コネクタ及びフェルールに関する。
 従来、光コネクタとして、互いに嵌合可能な、雄側コネクタと、雌側コネクタと、を備えるものが知られている。(特許文献1参照)。
 雄側コネクタ及び雌側コネクタは、光ファイバーの外周をシースで包囲してなる光コードの端部から露出する光ファイバの先端に固定されたフェルールが収容されるハウジングを有する。ハウジング内には、各フェルールを、それぞれのコネクタの嵌合方向前方に付勢するコイルばねが収容されている。
 両コネクタが嵌合すると、雄側コネクタに収容されたフェルールの先端と、雌側コネクタに収容されたフェルールの先端と、が互いにコイルばねの弾発力によって押し付けられた状態になる。これにより、雄側コネクタに収容された光ファイバと、雌側コネクタに収容された光ファイバと、が光学的に接続される。

 上記の構成によると、雄側コネクタ及び雌側コネクタの双方にコイルばねが収容されている。このため、コイルばねのストロークを確保するための空間が両コネクタの双方に必要となる。コイルばねのストロークを確保するための空間は、雄側コネクタ及び雌側コネクタの嵌合方向に延びて形成されるので、両コネクタの嵌合方向について小型化を図ることが難しいという問題がある。
 本発明は上記のような事情に基づいて完成されたものであって、確実にフェルールが保持されると共に、小型化された光コネクタを提供することを目的とする。また、光コネクタに確実に保持されるフェルールを提供することを目的とする。

 本発明によれば、フェルールは、保持部によって第2コネクタに確実に保持される。これにより、フェルールを確実に第2コネクタに保持すると共に光コネクタを全体として小型化できる。

 また、軸部の断面における各頂点はコイルばねの内周に当接する正多角形状をなしているので、コイルばねの軸線と、軸部の軸線とを整合させることができる。これにより、フェルールの軸線とコイルばねの軸線とを一致させることができる。この結果、フェルールを正規位置に保持できるので、第1コネクタに取り付けられた光ファイバと、第2コネクタに取り付けられた光ファイバとの光学的な接続を確実に維持できる。
 なお、正多角形状とは、正多角形の頂点が面取りされた形状を含む。すなわち、頂点が面取り加工されることにより厳密には正多角形状ではないが、実質的に正多角形状と認められる場合を含む。正多角形の頂点に形成された面は、平面であてもよく、また、曲面であってもよい。正多角形の頂点に形成された面が曲面である場合には、各頂点に形成された面が、円の一部を形成する構成としてもよい。換言すると、一つの円について、複数の同一形状をなす弓形を、円の中心を点対称の中心として切除することにより、正多角形の各頂点が面取りされた形状としてもよい。
 また、軸部の断面は正多角形状をなしている。このため、軸部の断面が円形状をなしている場合に比べて、軸部のフランジに対する投影面積は小さくなっている。これにより、フランジとフランジ受け部との係合代を増大させることができる。フランジ受け部のうち軸部と対向する部分は軸部の外形状に倣って形成されているので、軸部のうちフランジに対する投影面積が小さくなった領域を、確実に係合代として利用できる。この結果、フェルールを第2コネクタに確実に保持することができる。
 本発明の実施態様としては以下の態様が好ましい。
 前記第2コネクタには、前記第1コネクタに収容されたフェルールと、前記第2コネクタに収容されたフェルールの双方が挿入されるスリーブが収容されていることが好ましい。
 上記の態様によれば、第1コネクタ及び第2コネクタが嵌合すると、第2コネクタに収容されたスリーブ内に、第1コネクタに収容されたフェルールと、第2コネクタに収容されたフェルールとが、挿入される。すると、第1コネクタに収容されたフェルールの先端と、第2コネクタに収容されたフェルールの先端とが当接する。両フェルールはスリーブの内面によって案内されるので、両フェルールの軸線を確実に整合させることができる。この結果、第1コネクタに取り付けられた光ファイバと、第2コネクタに取り付けられた光ファイバとを、確実に、光学的に接続できる。
 前記第2コネクタには、前記フランジを収容するフランジ収容部が形成されており、前記フランジ収容部のうち、前記フランジと対向する面は、前記フランジの外形状に倣って形成されていることが好ましい。
 上記の態様によれば、フランジは、このフランジの外形状に倣った形状をなすフランジ収容部内に収容すればよいので、フランジをフランジ収容部内に収容する際に、フランジの姿勢を容易に正規位置に保持することができる。
 前記保持部は、前記第2コネクタとは別体に形成されて、前記軸部に係止されると共に前記フェルールの径方向について前記フランジよりも大きく形成された係止部材であって、
 前記第2コネクタは、前記係止部材に対して前記第2コネクタの嵌合方向後方から当接する係止部材受け部を備える。
 上記の態様によれば、フェルールは、係止部材を介して係止部材受け部によって確実に保持される。これにより、フェルールを確実に第2コネクタに保持すると共に光コネクタを全体として小型化できる。
 前記係止部材には、前記軸部が収容される軸部収容溝が形成されていることが好ましい。
 上記の態様によれば、軸部収容溝内に軸部を収容するという簡易な構成によってフェルールと係止部材とを係止させることができる。
 前記係止部材は、前記軸部収容溝の一対の開口縁部が拡開変形可能に形成されており、自然状態における前記一対の開口縁部同士の間隔は、前記軸部の外径寸法よりも小さく形成されていることが好ましい。
 フェルールを係止部材に係止する際には、まず、フェルールの軸部を、軸部収容溝の一対の開口縁部に押圧する。すると、一対の開口縁部は拡開変形する。更に軸部を押圧すると、軸部は、拡開変形した開口縁部の間を通って、軸部収容溝の内部に進入する。更に軸部が軸部収容溝の内部に進入すると、一対の開口縁部が復帰変形し、軸部が、軸部収容溝の内部に保持される。このように本態様によれば、係止部材によって軸部を確実に保持することができる。
 前記軸部収容溝のうち前記軸部と対向する面は、前記軸部の外形状に倣って形成されていることが好ましい。
 上記の態様によれば、フランジと、係止部材とが接触する面積を大きくすることができる。これにより、フェルールを、係止部材を介して第2ハウジングによって確実に保持することができる。
 前記係止部材には、前記軸部が挿通される軸部挿通孔が前記係止部材を貫通して形成されていることが好ましい。
 上記の態様によれば、フランジと、係止部材とが接触する面積を大きくすることができる。これにより、フェルールを、係止部材を介して第2ハウジングによって確実に保持することができる。
 また、本発明の少なくとも一つは、光ファイバの端末に外嵌されて固定されるフェルールであって、前記フェルールにはコイルばねが外嵌される軸部が前記フェルールの軸線方向に延びて形成されており、前記軸部の断面形状は、前記軸部の断面における各頂点が前記コイルばねの内周に当接する正多角形状をなしている。
 本発明の少なくとも一つによれば、軸部の断面における各頂点はコイルばねの内周に当接する正多角形状をなしているので、コイルばねの軸線と、軸部の軸線とを整合させることができる。これにより、フェルールの軸線とコイルばねの軸線とを一致させることができる。この結果、フェルールを正規位置に保持できるので、第1コネクタに取り付けられた光ファイバと、第2コネクタに取り付けられた光ファイバとの光学的な接続を確実に維持できる。
 本発明によれば、光コネクタにおいて確実にフェルールを保持することができる。また、光コネクタを小型化することができる。

 <実施形態1>
 本発明の実施形態1を、図1ないし図18を参照しつつ説明する。本実施形態に係る光コネクタ10は、雄側コネクタ11(第1コネクタの一例)と、この雄側コネクタ11が嵌合されるフード部12を備えた雌側コネクタ13(第2コネクタの一例)と、を備える。雄側コネクタ11及び雌側コネクタ13は、それぞれ、光ファイバ14の外周をシース15で包囲してなる光コード16の端部に取り付けられている。雄側コネクタ11、及び雌側コネクタ13に取り付けられた側に位置する光コード16の端部には、シース15が剥がされることによりシース15から露出された光ファイバ14の先端にフェルール17A,17Bが固定されている。フェルール17Aは雄側コネクタ11に収容されており、フェルール17Bは雌側コネクタ13に収容されるようになっている。フェルール17A,17Bは同形同大であって、雄側コネクタ11及び雌側コネクタ13に共用される。
 なお、以下の説明において、フェルール17A,17Bについて共通する構造については、フェルール17としてまとめて記載することがある。
 また、以下の説明においては、図1における上方を上方とし、下方を下方とする。また、前後方向については、各コネクタ11,13の嵌合方向について前方を前方とし、嵌合方向について後方を後方とする。従って、雄側コネクタ11における前後方向と、雌側コネクタ13における前後方向は反対向きになっている。
(雌側コネクタ13)
 雌側コネクタ13は、嵌合方向前方(図1における右方)に開口するフード部12を備えた合成樹脂製の雌側ロアハウジング18と、この雌側ロアハウジング18に上方から組み付けられる合成樹脂製の雌側アッパーハウジング19と、を備える。図7に示すように雌側ロアハウジング18の外側面には、ロック突部20Aが形成されている。また、図9に示すように雌側アッパーハウジング19にはロック突部20Aに対応する位置にロック受け部21Aが形成されている。ロック突部20Aとロック受け部21Aとが弾性的に係合することにより、雌側ロアハウジング18と雌側アッパーハウジング19とが一体に組み付けられるようになっている。
 雌側コネクタ13の内部には、光コード16と、光コード16の端部から露出された光ファイバ14と、光ファイバ14の先端に外嵌されて固定されたフェルール17Bと、が収容されている。図4に示すように、光コード16のシース15には、光コード16の軸線方向に沿って延びる貫通孔22が形成されている。この貫通孔22の内部には1つの光ファイバ14が挿通されている。光ファイバ14とシース15との間には、光コード16に対して張力が加えられたときに、光ファイバ14が切断されることを抑制する抗張力材23が収容されている。抗張力材23は繊維状をなしている。シース15の端部には、光コード16の軸線方向に沿って延びるスリット24が形成されている。このスリット24から抗張力材23が引き出されて、金属製の外リング25と、金属製の内リング26との間に抗張力材23が配され、外リング25が内リング26にかしめられることにより、抗張力材23が外リング25と内リング26との間に挟持される。また、外リング25は、シース15に外嵌されら状態でシース15にかしめられることにより、シース15に固定されている。
 雌側ロアハウジング18及び雌側アッパーハウジング19の後端部寄りの位置(図1における左端部寄りの位置)には、外リング25を収容する外リング収容溝28が、前後方向(図1における左右方向)に延びて形成されている。
 フード部12内には、嵌合筒部29が、雌側コネクタ13の嵌合方向前方(図1における右方)に突出して形成されている。この嵌合筒部29の内部には、フェルール17が挿入されるスリーブ30が収容されている。スリーブ30の内部には、フェルール17A及びフェルール17Bの双方が収容されるようになっている。スリーブ30は略筒状をなしており、金属、セラミック等、その径方向について弾性変形可能な材料で形成されている。スリーブ30の後端部(図4における左端部)には、上下方向に突出する一対の係止片31が形成されている。この係止片31は、フード部12の奥壁に、後方から(図1における左方から)当接することにより、スリーブ30が前方(図1における右方)に移動することを規制するようになっている。
(雄側コネクタ11)
 図1に示すように、雄側コネクタ11は、フード部12内に嵌入される合成樹脂製のフロントハウジング32と、フロントハウジング32の後方(図1における右方)に組み付けられる合成樹脂製の雄側ロアハウジング33と、フロントハウジング32の後方に配されて、且つ雄側ロアハウジング33の上側に組み付けられる合成樹脂製の雄側アッパーハウジング34と、を備える。
 雄側コネクタ11の内部には、光コード16と、光コード16の端部から露出された光ファイバ14と、光ファイバ14の先端に外嵌されて固定されたフェルール17Aと、が収容されている。光ファイバ14の端末には、内リング26及び外リング25が取り付けられている。光ファイバ14、フェルール17A、内リング26、及び外リング25については、雌側コネクタ13に収容されたものと同一の構成なので、重複する説明を省略する。
 雄側ロアハウジング33及び雄側アッパーハウジング34の後端部寄りの位置(図1における右端部寄りの位置)には、外リング25を収容する外リング収容溝51が、前後方向(図1における左右方向)に延びて形成されている。
 図14に示すように、雄側アッパーハウジング34の外側面には、ロック突部20Bが形成されている。また、図12に示すように、雄側ロアハウジング33には、ロック突部B20に対応する位置にロック受け部21Bが形成されている。ロック突部20Bとロック受け部21Bとが弾性的に係合することにより、雄側アッパーハウジング34と雄側ロアハウジング33とが一体に組み付けられるようになっている。
 また、図13に示すように、雄側アッパーハウジング34には前方(図13における左方)に突出するロック爪35が形成されている。このロック爪35が、フロントハウジング32に形成された図示しないロック爪受け部と弾性的に係合することにより、雄側アッパーハウジング34とフロントハウジング32とが一体に組み付けられる。
 図1に示すように、フロントハウジング32の上面には、前端部(図1における左端部)から後方(図1における右方)に延びるロックアーム36が形成されている。ロックアーム36の上面であって後端部寄りの位置には、上方に突出する爪部37が形成されている。この爪部37は、雌側ハウジングのフード部12内に、爪部37と対応する位置に形成された爪受け部50と弾性的に係合することにより、雌側コネクタ13と、雄側コネクタ11とが嵌合した状態を保持できるようになっている。
 図1に示すように、フロントハウジング32の前端部(図1における左端部)には、前方(図1における左方)に延びる保護筒部38が形成されている。この保護筒部38の内部には、フェルール17A,17Bが配されるようになっている。また、雄側コネクタ11と雌側コネクタ13とが嵌合した状態では、保護筒部38の内部には、雌側コネクタ13の嵌合筒部29が嵌入されるようになっている。
 フロントハウジング32の後端部(図1における右端部)には、後方(図1における右方)に開口してコイルばね39が収容されるばね収容部40が形成されている。また、雄側アッパーハウジング34の前端部(図1における左端部)には、コイルばね39の後端部に対して後方から当接するばね受け部41が、内方に突出して形成されている。
 コイルばね39の前端部はフェルール17に後方から係止しており、フェルール17を前方(図1における左方)に付勢している。
 雄側コネクタ11に収容されたフェルール17Aは、雄側コネクタ11と雌側コネクタ13とが嵌合した状態では、スリーブ30内に挿入されるようになっている。このスリーブ30内において、雌側コネクタ13に収容されたフェルール17Bの先端と、雄側コネクタ11に収容されたフェルール17Aの先端とが、当接するようになっている。フェルール17Aはコイルばね39によって付勢されているので、フェルール17Aは、フェルール17Bに押し付けられた状態になっている。これにより、雄側コネクタ11側の光ファイバ14と、雌側コネクタ13側の光ファイバ14と、が光学的に接続されるようになっている。
(フェルール17)
 図17に示すように、フェルール17は、筒状をなすキャピラリ42と、このキャピラリ42の後端部に合成樹脂によってモールド成型されてなるフランジ43と、このフランジ43と一体に形成されると共にフランジ43からフェルール17の先端とは反対方向であってフェルール17の軸線方向に沿って延びる軸部44と、を備える。キャピラリ42の断面形状は円形状をなしている。キャピラリ42には、キャピラリ42の軸線方向に延びるキャピラリ側挿通孔45が形成されている。このキャピラリ側挿通孔45内には、光ファイバ14が挿通される。
 図18に示すように、フランジ43は、フェルール17の径方向外方に突出して形成されている。フランジ43の外形状は、正方形状をなしている。フランジ43の外面のうち、キャピラリ42側の外面には、テーパ状の斜面が形成されている。
 図18に示すように、軸部44の断面形状は、正多角形状をなしている。正多角形状とは、正多角形の頂点が面取りされた形状を含む。すなわち、頂点が面取りされることにより厳密には正多角形状ではないが、実質的に正多角形状と認められる場合を含む。この面取りは、平面によってなされてもよく、また、曲面によってなされてもよい。本実施形態では、軸部44の断面状は正方形状をなしている。これにより、軸部44は、全体として、略直方体形状をなしている。軸部44のうち、長手方向に延びる稜部は、面取りがなされている。軸部44の稜部は、曲面により面取りされている。軸部44には上述したコイルばね39が外嵌されるようになっている。軸部44の断面の各頂点に対応する部分は、軸部44に外嵌されたコイルばね39の内周に当接するようになっている。
 なお、本実施形態においては、軸部44の断面形状は、詳細には以下のような形状をなしている。すなわち、一つの円について、4つの同一形状をなす弓形を、円の中心を点対称の中心として切除することにより、正方形の各頂点が曲面によって面取りされた形状に形成されている。
 軸部44には、軸部44の延びる方向に沿って、軸部側挿通孔46が形成されている。この軸部側挿通孔46内には、光ファイバ14が挿通される。上記したキャピラリ側挿通孔45と、軸部側挿通孔46とは、同軸上に形成されている。
 フランジ43の外面のうち、軸部44側の外面は、軸部44の延びる方向に対して切り立って形成されている。本実施形態においては、フランジ43の外面のうち、軸部44側の外面は、軸部44の延びる方向に対して略垂直に形成されている。また、フランジ43と軸部44との間には軸部44の軸線に交差するする方向に延びて形成されると共に、接着剤が注入される注入孔47が形成されている。この注入孔47内に接着剤が注入されて硬化されることにより、キャピラリ側挿通孔45、及び軸部側挿通孔46内に挿通された光ファイバ14が、フェルール17に外嵌された状態で固定される。
(雌側コネクタ13におけるフェルール17Bの配設構造)
 図1に示すように、雌側コネクタ13の下壁には、フェルール17Bのフランジ43を収容するフランジ収容部48が形成されている。詳細に説明すると、図5に示すように、雌側ロアハウジング18には、上方に開口する溝状に形成されたフランジ収容部48が、左右方向(図5における上下方向)に2つ並んで形成されている。フランジ収容部48の内面は、フェルール17がフランジ収容部48内に収容された状態でフランジ43と対向するようになっており、フランジ43の外形状に倣った形状に形成されている。具体的には、フランジ収容部48の内面は、略四角形状をなしている。
 また、図1に示すように、雌側アッパーハウジング19の上壁には、下方に垂下するフランジ受け部49(保持部の一例)が形成されている。フランジ受け部49は、フェルール17がフランジ収容部48内に収容された状態で、フランジ43の後方(図1における左方)からフランジ43に当接するようになっている。換言すると、フランジ43は、雌側コネクタ13の嵌合方向後方からフランジ43に当接するようになっている。これにより、フェルール17Bが後方(図1における左方)に移動することが規制されるようになっている(図2及び図3参照)。
 また、図10に示すように、フランジ受け部49は概ね門形状をなしている。これにより、フランジ43の上部、及び両側部に対して後方から当接するようになっている。これにより、フェルール17Bが後方に移動することを確実に規制するようになっている。更に、図8に示すように、フランジ受け部49には後方(図8における左方)に延びるリブ52が形成されている。このリブ52によって、フェルール17Bが前方(図8における右方)から、雄側コネクタ11に収容されたフェルール17Aによって押圧された時でも、フランジ受け部49が変形することを確実に抑制できる(図2及び図3参照)。
 フランジ受け部49のうち、軸部44に対向する部分は、軸部44の外形状に倣った形状になっている。本実施形態においては、フランジ受け部49のうち、軸部44に対向する部分は、略四角形状に形成されている。これにより、軸部44の位置決め容易に行うことができるようになっている。
(雄側コネクタ11におけるフェルール17Aの配設構造)
 図18に示すように、コイルばね39が軸部44に外嵌された状態で、コイルばね39をフランジ43部に投影した部分は、フランジ43部よりも小さくなっている。換言すれば、コイルばね39は、フランジ43部に押し付けられた時に、フランジ43部によって確実に受けられるようになっている。
 図1に示すように、コイルばね39の後端部(図1における右端部)は、上述したばね受け部41に受けられるようになっている。換言すると、コイルばね39は、雄側コネクタ11の嵌合方向後方からばね受け部41によって保持されるようになっている。このばね受け部41は、図15に示すように、雄側アッパーハウジング34の上壁から下方に垂下して形成されている。ばね受け部41は概ね門形状をなしている。ばね受け部41のうちコイルばね39の当接する部分はコイルばね39の形状に倣って円形状をなしている。また、ばね受け部41のうち、フェルール17Aの軸部44と対向する部分は、軸部44の外形状に倣って、上部が丸められた略四角形状に形成されている。
 図1に示すように、コイルばね39が収容されるばね収容部40は、コイルばね39の外形状に倣った形状に形成されている。これにより、コイルばね39が、コイルばね39の軸線と交差する方向に移動することが抑制されるようになっている。
(実施形態の作用、効果)
 続いて、本実施形態の作用、効果について説明する。本実施形態によれば、フェルール17Bは、雌側コネクタ13においては、雌側アッパーハウジング19に形成されたフランジ受け部49が後方(図1及び図2における左方)から当接することにより、後方に移動することが規制された状態で保持されている。また、フランジ43の前部は、雌側ロアハウジング18に形成されたフード部12の奥壁に後方(図1及び図2における左方)から当接している。これにより、フェルール17Bが前方(図1及び図2における右方)に移動することが規制されている。このように、フェルール17Bは、雌側コネクタ13に確実に保持される。これにより、雌側コネクタ13においては、フェルール17Bを係止するためのコイルばね39が不要となっている。この結果、コイルばね39のストロークを確保する領域が不要となるので、雌側コネクタ13を小型化できる。これにより、光コネクタ10を、全体として小型化できる。
 また、軸部44の断面は正多角形状をなしている。このため、軸部44の断面が円形状をなしている場合に比べて、軸部44のフランジ43に対する投影面積は小さくなっている。これにより、フランジ43とフランジ受け部49との係合代を増大させることができる。フランジ受け部49のうち軸部44と対向する部分は軸部44の外形状に倣って形成されているので、軸部44のうちフランジ43に対する投影面積が小さくなった領域を、確実に係合代として利用できる。この結果、フェルール17Bを雌側コネクタ13に確実に保持することができる。
 一方、フェルール17Aの軸部44の断面における各頂点はコイルばね39の内周に当接する正多角形状をなしている。このため、雄側コネクタ11において、フェルール17Aをコイルばね39によって係止する際、コイルばね39の軸線と、軸部44の軸線とを整合させることができる。これにより、フェルール17Aの軸線とコイルばね39の軸線とを一致させることができる。この結果、フェルール17Aを正規位置に保持できるので、雄側コネクタ11に取り付けられた光ファイバ14と、雌側コネクタ13に取り付けられた光ファイバ14との光学的な接続を確実に維持できる。
 なお、正多角形状とは、正多角形の頂点が面取り加工された形状を含む。すなわち、頂点が面取り加工されることにより厳密には正多角形状ではないが、実質的に正多角形状と認められる場合を含む。この面取り加工は、平面によってなされてもよく、また、曲面によってなされてもよい。
 また、本実施形態によれば、雌側コネクタ13には、フェルール17A,17Bが挿入されるスリーブ30が収容されている。これにより、雄側コネクタ11と雌側コネクタ13とが嵌合すると、雌側コネクタ13に収容されたスリーブ30内に、雄側コネクタ11に収容されたフェルール17Aと、雌側コネクタ13に収容されたフェルール17Bとが、挿入される。すると、雄側コネクタ11に収容されたフェルール17Aの先端と、雌側コネクタ13に収容されたフェルール17Bの先端とが当接する。両フェルール17A,17Bはスリーブ30の内面によって案内されるので、両フェルール17A,17Bの軸線を確実に整合させることができる。この結果、雄側コネクタ11に取り付けられた光ファイバ14と、雌側コネクタ13に取り付けられた光ファイバ14とを、確実に、光学的に接続できる。
 両フェルール17A,17Bの先端が当接すると、雄側コネクタ11に収容されたフェルール17Aが、雌側コネクタ13に収容されたフェルール17Bに押圧されて後退する。一方、フェルール17Aはコイルばね39によって押圧されるので、フェルール17Aとフェルール17Bとが確実に当接するようになっている。
 また、本実施形態によれば、雌側コネクタ13には、フェルール17のフランジ43を収容するフランジ収容部48が形成されており、フランジ収容部48のうち、フランジ43と対向する面は、フランジ43の外形状に倣って形成されている。これにより、フェルール17のフランジ43は、このフランジ43の外形状に倣った形状をなすフランジ収容部48内に収容すればよいので、フランジ43をフランジ収容部48内に収容する際に、フランジ43の姿勢を容易に正規位置に保持することができる。
 <実施形態2>
 本発明の実施形態2を、図19ないし図27を参照しつつ説明する。本実施形態に係る光コネクタ110は、雄側コネクタ111(第1コネクタ)と、この雄側コネクタ111が嵌合されるフード部112を備えた雌側コネクタ113(第2コネクタ)と、を備える。雄側コネクタ111及び雌側コネクタ113は、それぞれ、光ファイバ114の外周をシース115で包囲してなる光コード116の端部に取り付けられている。雄側コネクタ111、及び雌側コネクタ113に取り付けられた側に位置する光コード116の端部には、シース115が剥がされることによりシース115から露出された光ファイバ114の先端にフェルール117A,117Bが固定されている。フェルール117Aは雄側コネクタ111に収容されており、フェルール117Bは雌側コネクタ113に収容されるようになっている。フェルール117A,117Bは同形同大であって、雄側コネクタ111及び雌側コネクタ113に共用される。
 なお、以下の説明において、フェルール117A,117Bについて共通する構造については、フェルール117としてまとめて記載することがある。
 また、以下の説明においては、図23における上方を上方とし、下方を下方とする。また、前後方向については、各コネクタ111,113の嵌合方向について前方を前方とし、嵌合方向について後方を後方とする。従って、雄側コネクタ111における前後方向と、雌側コネクタ113における前後方向は反対向きになっている。
(雌側コネクタ113)
 雌側コネクタ113は、嵌合方向前方(図19における右方)に開口するフード部112を備えた合成樹脂製の雌側ロアハウジング118と、この雌側ロアハウジング118に上方から組み付けられる合成樹脂製の雌側アッパーハウジング119と、を備える。雌側ロアハウジング118と雌側アッパーハウジング119とは、図示しないロック突部と図示しないロック受け部とが弾性的に係合することにより、一体に組み付けられるようになっている。
 雌側コネクタ113の内部には、光コード116と、光コード116の端部から露出された光ファイバ114と、光ファイバ114の先端に外嵌されて固定されたフェルール117Bと、が収容されている。図21に示すように、光コード116のシース115には、光コード116の軸線方向に沿って延びる貫通孔122が形成されている。この貫通孔122の内部には1つの光ファイバ114が挿通されている。光ファイバ114とシース115との間には、光コード116に対して張力が加えられたときに、光ファイバ114が切断されることを抑制する抗張力材123が収容されている。抗張力材123は繊維状をなしている。シース115の端部には、光コード116の軸線方向に沿って延びるスリット124が形成されている。このスリット124から抗張力材123が引き出されて、金属製の外リング125と、金属製の内リング126との間に抗張力材123が配され、外リング125が内リング126にかしめられることにより、抗張力材123が外リング125と内リング126との間に挟持される。また、外リング125は、シース115に外嵌されら状態でシース115にかしめられることにより、シース115に固定されている。
 雌側ロアハウジング118及び雌側アッパーハウジング119の後端部寄りの位置(図20における左端部寄りの位置)には、外リング125を収容する外リング収容溝128が、前後方向(図20における左右方向)に延びて形成されている。
 フード部112内には、嵌合筒部129が、雌側コネクタ113の嵌合方向前方(図20における右方)に突出して形成されている。この嵌合筒部129の内部には、フェルール117が挿入されるスリーブ130が収容されている。スリーブ130の内部には、フェルール117A及びフェルール117Bの双方が収容されるようになっている。スリーブ130は略筒状をなしており、金属、セラミック等、その径方向について弾性変形可能な材料で形成されている。スリーブ130の後端部(図20における左端部)には、スリーブ130の径方向外方に突出する一対の係止片131が形成されている。この係止片131は、フード部112の奥壁に、後方から(図20における左方から)当接することにより、スリーブ130が前方(図20における右方)に移動することを規制するようになっている。
 フェルール117Bが嵌合筒部129内に配されることにより、フェルール117Bが異物と衝突することが抑制されるようになっている。また、雄側コネクタ111がフード部112内に嵌入した場合において、斜め嵌合した場合でも、雄側コネクタ111の先端とフェルール117Bとが衝突することが抑制されるようになっている。
(雄側コネクタ111)
 図19に示すように、雄側コネクタ111は、フード部112内に嵌入される合成樹脂製のフロントハウジング132と、フロントハウジング132の後方(図19における右方)に組み付けられる合成樹脂製の雄側ロアハウジング133と、フロントハウジング132の後方に配されて、且つ雄側ロアハウジング133の上側に組み付けられる合成樹脂製の雄側アッパーハウジング134と、を備える。
 雄側コネクタ111の内部には、光コード116と、光コード116の端部から露出された光ファイバ114と、光ファイバ114の先端に外嵌されて固定されたフェルール117Aと、が収容されている。光ファイバ114の端末には、内リング126及び外リング125が取り付けられている。光ファイバ114、フェルール117A、内リング126、及び外リング125については、雌側コネクタ113に収容されたものと同一の構成なので、重複する説明を省略する。
 雄側ロアハウジング133及び雄側アッパーハウジング134の後端部寄りの位置(図22における右端部寄りの位置)には、外リング125を収容する外リング収容溝151が、前後方向(図22における左右方向)に延びて形成されている。
 雄側アッパーハウジング134と雄側ロアハウジング133とは、図示しないロック突部と図示しないロック受け部とが弾性的に係合することにより、一体に組み付けられるようになっている。
 また、図22に示すように、雄側アッパーハウジング134には前方(図22における左方)に突出するロック爪135が形成されている。このロック爪135が、フロントハウジング132に形成された図示しないロック爪受け部と弾性的に係合することにより、雄側アッパーハウジング134とフロントハウジング132とが一体に組み付けられる。
 図23に示すように、フロントハウジング132の上面には、前端部(図23における左端部)から後方(図23における右方)に延びるロックアーム136が形成されている。ロックアーム136の上面であって後端部寄りの位置には、上方に突出する爪部137が形成されている。この爪部137は、雌側ハウジングのフード部112内に、爪部137と対応する位置に形成された(図示せず)爪受け部と弾性的に係合することにより、雌側コネクタ113と、雄側コネクタ111とが嵌合した状態を保持できるようになっている。
 図22に示すように、フロントハウジング132の前端部(図22における左端部)には、前方(図22における左方)に延びる保護筒部138が形成されている。この保護筒部138の内部には、フェルール117Aが配されるようになっている。また、雄側コネクタ111と雌側コネクタ113とが嵌合した状態では、保護筒部138の内部には、雌側コネクタ113の嵌合筒部129が嵌入されるようになっている。
 フェルール117Aが保護筒部138内に配されることにより、フェルール117Aに異物が衝突することを抑制できるようになっている。また、雄側コネクタ111が雌側コネクタ113のフード部112内に嵌入する際に、フェルール117Aがフード部112の内壁に衝突することを抑制できるようになっている。
 フロントハウジング132の後端部(図22における右端部)には、後方(図22における右方)に開口してコイルばね139が収容されるばね収容部140が形成されている。また、雄側アッパーハウジング134の前端部(図19における左端部)には、コイルばね139の後端部に対して後方から当接するばね受け部141が、内方に突出して形成されている。
 このばね受け部141は、図24に示すように、雄側アッパーハウジング134の上壁から下方に垂下して形成されている。ばね受け部141は概ね門形状をなしている。ばね受け部141のうちコイルばね139の当接する部分はコイルばね139の形状に倣って円形状をなしている。
 コイルばね139の前端部はフェルール117に後方から係止しており、フェルール117を前方(図22における左方)に付勢している。
 図19に示すように、雄側コネクタ111に収容されたフェルール117Aは、雄側コネクタ111と雌側コネクタ113とが嵌合した状態では、スリーブ130内に挿入されるようになっている。このスリーブ130内において、雌側コネクタ113に収容されたフェルール117Bの先端と、雄側コネクタ111に収容されたフェルール117Aの先端とが、当接するようになっている。フェルール117Aはコイルばね139によって付勢されているので、フェルール117Aは、フェルール117Bに押し付けられた状態になっている。これにより、雄側コネクタ111側の光ファイバ114と、雌側コネクタ113側の光ファイバ114と、が光学的に接続されるようになっている。
(フェルール117)
 図25に示すように、フェルール117は、筒状をなすキャピラリ142と、このキャピラリ142の後端部に合成樹脂によってモールド成型されてなるフランジ143と、このフランジ143と一体に形成されると共にフランジ143からフェルール117の先端とは反対方向であってフェルール117の軸線方向に沿って延びる軸部144と、を備える。キャピラリ142の断面形状は円形状をなしている。キャピラリ142には、キャピラリ142の軸線方向に延びるキャピラリ側挿通孔(図示せず)が形成されている。このキャピラリ側挿通孔内には、光ファイバ114が挿通される。
 図26に示すように、フランジ143は、フェルール117の径方向外方に突出して形成されている。フランジ143の外形状は、正六角形状をなしている。フランジ143の外面のうち、キャピラリ142側の外面には、テーパ状の斜面が形成されている。
 図25に示すように、軸部144の後端部(図25における右端部)は、縮径されている。軸部144の前端部の外径寸法は、コイルばね139の内径寸法と略同じに設定されている。これにより、軸部144に外嵌されたコイルばね139の内周に当接するようになっている。
 軸部144には、軸部144の延びる方向に沿って、軸部側挿通孔(図示せず)が形成されている。この軸部側挿通孔内には、光ファイバ114が挿通される。上記したキャピラリ側挿通孔と、軸部側挿通孔とは、同軸上に形成されている。
(雌側コネクタ113におけるフェルール117Bの保持構造)
 図20に示すように、雌側ロアハウジング118には、フェルール117Bのフランジ143を収容するフランジ収容部148が形成されている。
 雌側ロアハウジング118には、フランジ収容部148の後方(図20における左方)に、フェルール117Bと係止する係止部材160(保持部の一例)が収容される係止部材収容部165を備える。
 係止部材160は合成樹脂製であって、板状をなしている。図27に示すように、係止部材160には、フェルール117Bの軸部144が収容される軸部収容溝162が下方に開口して形成されている。本実施形態においては、軸部収容溝162は2つ並んで形成されている。軸部収容溝162のうち軸部144と対向する面は、略長方形状に形成されている。係止部材160は、フェルール117Bの径方向について、フランジ143よりも大きく形成されている。
 図20に示すように、雌側アッパーハウジング119の前端部は、係止部材160に対して、雌側コネクタ113の嵌合方向後方(図20における左方)から当接することにより、係止部材160が後方に移動することを規制するようになっている。この雌側アッパーハウジング119の前端部が、係止部材受け部161とされる。係止部材受け部161には、軸部が挿通される挿通孔166が、係止部材160軸部を貫通して形成されている。
(実施形態の作用、効果)
 本実施形態によれば、フェルール117Bは、係止部材160を介して係止部材受け部161によって、雌側コネクタ113に確実に保持される。しかも、係止部材160はフェルール117Bの径方向についてフランジ143よりも大きく形成されているので、フェルール117Bを雌側コネクタ113に確実に保持することができる。
 また、係止部材160がフランジ143に比して大きく形成されているので、雌側コネクタ113について、フランジ143との係合代を形成するために寸法精度を上げる必要がないので、光コネクタ110の製造コストが上昇することを抑制できる。
 また、雌側コネクタ113においてコイルばね139を省略できるので、コイルばね139のストロークを確保する必要がない。これにより、雌側コネクタ113の小型化を図ることが可能となり、光コネクタ110を全体として小型化することができる。
 また、本実施形態によれば、軸部収容溝162内に軸部144を収容するという簡易な構成によってフェルール117Bと係止部材160とを係止させることができる。
 <実施形態3>
 次に、本発明の実施形態3を、図28を参照しつつ説明する。本実施形態においては、係止部材160は、軸部収容溝162の一対の開口縁部163が拡開変形可能に形成されている。そして、自然状態における一対の開口縁部163同士の間隔は、軸部の外径寸法よりも小さく形成されている。また、軸部収容溝162のうち軸部144と対向する面は、軸部144の外径状に倣って、円形状に形成されている。
 上記以外の構成については、実施形態2と略同様なので、同一部材については同一符号を付し、重複する説明を省略する。
 本実施形態によれば、軸部144を軸部収容溝162に収容する際には、まず、軸部144を軸部収容溝162の一対の開口縁部163に押圧する。すると、一対の開口縁部163は拡開変形する。更に軸部144を押圧すると、軸部144は拡開変形した開口縁部163の間を通って、軸部収容溝162の内部に進入する。更に軸部144が軸部収容溝162の内部に進入すると、一対の開口縁部163が復帰変形し、軸部144が、軸部収容溝162の内部に保持される。このように本実施形態によれば、係止部材160によって軸部144を確実に保持することができる。
 また本実施形態によれば、軸部収容溝162のうち軸部144と対向する面は、軸部144の外形状に倣って形成されている。これにより、フランジ143と、係止部材160とが接触する面積を大きくすることができる。これにより、フェルール117Bを、係止部材160を介して雌側コネクタ113によって確実に保持することができる。
 <実施形態4>
 次に、本発明の実施形態4を、図29を参照しつつ説明する。本実施形態においては、軸部収容溝162のうち軸部と対向する面は、軸部の外形状に沿って半円形状に形成されている。
 記以外の構成については、実施形態2と略同様なので、同一部材については同一符号を付し、重複する説明を省略する。
 上記の構成により、フランジ143と、係止部材160とが接触する面積を大きくすることができる。これにより、フェルール117Bを、係止部材160を介して雌側コネクタ113によって確実に保持することができる。
 <実施形態5>
 次に、本発明の実施形態5を、図30を参照しつつ説明する。本実施形態においては、係止部材160には、軸部が挿通される軸部挿通孔164が係止部材160を貫通して形成されている。軸部挿通孔164の内径寸法は、軸部の外径寸法と同じか、やや大きく設定されている。
 本実施形態においては、軸部挿通孔164内に軸部144を挿通させた後に、フェルール117Bに光ファイバ114を挿通することにより、フェルール117Bと光ファイバ114とを固定することができる。
 上記以外の構成については、実施形態2と略同様なので、同一部材については同一符号を付し、重複する説明を省略する。
 本実施形態によれば、フランジ143と、係止部材160とが接触する面積を大きくすることができる。これにより、フェルール117Bを、係止部材160を介して雌側コネクタ113によって確実に保持することができる。
 <他の実施形態>
 本発明は上記記述及び図面によって説明した実施形態に限定されるものではなく、例えば次のような実施形態も本発明の技術的範囲に含まれる。
 (1)実施形態1においては、軸部44の断面形状は正方形状であったが、これに限られず、正三角形状、正五角形状、正六角形状等、必要に応じて任意の正多角形状とすることができる。
 (2)実施形態1においては、1つの光コード16内に1つの光ファイバ14が配される構成としたが、これに限られず、1つの光コード16内に2つ以上の光ファイバ14が配される構成としてもよい。
 (3)実施形態1においては、雌側コネクタ13にはスリーブ30が収容される構成としたが、スリーブ30は省略してもよい、
 (4)実施形態1においては、雄側コネクタ11及び雌側コネクタ13には、それぞれ、2つのフェルールが収容される構成としたが、これに限られず、1つ、又は3つ以上のフェルール17が収容される構成としてもよい。
 (5)実施形態2~5においては、1つの光コード116内に1つの光ファイバ114が配される構成としたが、これに限られず、1つの光コード116内に2つ以上の光ファイバ114が配される構成としてもよい。
 (6)実施形態2~5においては、雌側コネクタ113にはスリーブ130が収容される構成としたが、スリーブ130は省略してもよい。
 (7)実施形態2~5においては、雄側コネクタ111及び雌側コネクタ113には、それぞれ、2つのフェルール117が収容される構成としたが、これに限られず、1つ、又は3つ以上のフェルール117が収容される構成としてもよい。

Claims (10)

  1.  互いに嵌合する第1コネクタ及び第2コネクタを備えた光コネクタであって、
     前記第1コネクタ及び前記第2コネクタは、それぞれ、光ファイバの外周をシースで包囲してなる光コードの端部に取り付けられており、
     前記第1コネクタ及び前記第2コネクタに取り付けられた側に位置する前記光コードの端部には、前記シースから露出された前記光ファイバの先端に、前記第1コネクタ及び前記第2コネクタの双方に収容されるフェルールが固定されており、
     前記フェルールは、前記フェルールの径方向外方に突出するフランジと、前記フランジから前記フェルールの先端とは反対方向であって前記フェルールの軸線方向に沿って延びる軸部と、を備え、
     前記第1コネクタは、前記軸部に外嵌されて前記フェルールを前記第1コネクタの嵌合方向前方に付勢するコイルばねと、前記コイルばねを前記第1コネクタの嵌合方向後方から保持するばね受け部と、を備え、
     前記第2コネクタは、前記フェルールを保持する保持部を備えた光コネクタ。
  2.  前記軸部の断面形状は、前記軸部の断面における各頂点が前記コイルばねの内周に当接する正多角形状をなしており、
     前記保持部は、前記第2コネクタに形成されて前記フランジに対して前記第2コネクタの嵌合方向後方から当接するフランジ受け部であって、前記フランジ受け部のうち前記軸部と対向する部分は前記軸部の外形状に倣って形成されている請求項1に記載の光コネクタ。
  3.  前記第2コネクタには、前記第1コネクタに収容されたフェルールと、前記第2コネクタに収容されたフェルールの双方が挿入されるスリーブが収容されている請求項1または請求項2に記載の光コネクタ。
  4.  前記第2コネクタには、前記フランジを収容するフランジ収容部が形成されており、前記フランジ収容部のうち、前記フランジと対向する面は、前記フランジの外形状に倣って形成されている請求項1ないし請求項3のいずれか一項に記載の光コネクタ。
  5.  前記保持部は、前記第2コネクタとは別体に形成されて、前記軸部に係止されると共に前記フェルールの径方向について前記フランジよりも大きく形成された係止部材であって、
     前記第2コネクタは、前記係止部材に対して前記第2コネクタの嵌合方向後方から当接する係止部材受け部を備えた請求項1に記載の光コネクタ。
  6.  前記係止部材には、前記軸部が収容される軸部収容溝が形成されている請求項5に記載の光コネクタ。
  7.  前記係止部材は、前記軸部収容溝の一対の開口縁部が拡開変形可能に形成されており、自然状態における前記一対の開口縁部同士の間隔は、前記軸部の外径寸法よりも小さく形成されている請求項6に記載の光コネクタ。
  8.  前記軸部収容溝のうち前記軸部と対向する面は、前記軸部の外形状に倣って形成されている請求項6または請求項7に記載の光コネクタ。
  9.  前記係止部材には、前記軸部が挿通される軸部挿通孔が前記係止部材を貫通して形成されている請求項5に記載の光コネクタ。
  10.  光ファイバの端末に外嵌されて固定されるフェルールであって、前記フェルールにはコイルばねが外嵌される軸部が前記フェルールの軸線方向に延びて形成されており、前記軸部の断面形状は、前記軸部の断面における各頂点が前記コイルばねの内周に当接する正多角形状をなしているフェルール。
