Definitions

  • the conventional method of packing (packaging) edibles involves the use of hygroscopic adhesive or glue. It is known that hygroscopic substance has a tendency to absorb water or moisture and therefore, packaging materials sealed using hygroscopic adhesive or glue attracts and holds water. During transport, storage and handling, the packaging is more easily exposed to moisture. Extreme variations in temperature also result in condensation. In maritime transport, the packaging is more prone to moisture, and this further enhances the absorption of water content through the packaging materials and causes corrosion of the packaging contents.
