Abstract

본 발명은 해양생태계를 위협하는 선박평형수(ballast water)와 지구 온난화 등을 초래하는 선박 배출가스(CO2)를 동시에 처리하는 선박용 배출가스 및 선박평형수 처리방법 및 장치를 제시한다. 본 발명은 선박평형수 내의 해양미생물이 낮은 pH(산성)에서 사멸된다는 점과 선박 배출가스를 이용하여 pH를 낮출 수 있다는 점에 착안한 것으로서 해양오염과 대기오염을 동시에 제어ㆍ방지하는 친환경적인 처리방법이다. 즉, 본 발명은 (1) 미생물 처리 대상이 되는 선박평형수를 일단계로 여과하고 선박평형수 탱크에 저장ㆍ활용하는 단계, (2) 선박평형수를 선박평형수 탱크에서 선박평형수 처리탱크로 이송하고, 이어서 입자상물질(PM) 등이 제거된 선박 엔진의 배출가스를 열교환을 통하여 온도를 낮추고, 그리고 선박평형수와 접촉되게 하여 선박평형수의 수소이온농도를 변화시켜서, 즉, 선박평형수의 pH를 산성으로 조절함으로써 선박평형수 내의 해양미생물을 일차적으로 사멸ㆍ제거하는 단계, (3) pH 조절로 해양미생물을 사멸ㆍ처리한 선박평형수를 선박평형수 배출탱크로 이송하고 배출가스와 열교환을 통하여 배출되는 선박평형수의 온도를 높여서 이차적으로 잔류 해양미생물의 사멸을 유도함과 동시에 선박평형수에 남아 있는 이산화탄소와 질소 산화물 등의 탈기를 도모함으로써 선박평형수의 수소이온농도를 궁극적으로 해수의 수소이온농도와 동일하게 만들어 주게 되는, 배출에 적합한 수소이온농도로 전환시키는 단계를 포함하는 것을 특징으로 한다. 따라서 본 발명에 의하여 선박평형수 내의 해양미생물을 제거하기 위한 보다 친환경적이고 보다 효과적인 선박평형수 처리장치를 제공할 수 있는 것이다.
