上記(2)の構成の車室天井部用の照明装置によれば、収納部ユニット自体に、収納空間を閉じることのできる本体と蓋体の両方を設けている。このため、ケース側との取合いに関係なく、同ユニット上において本体と蓋体の位置関係や寸法関係を決めておきさえすれば、収納空間を確実に閉じることができる。従って、蓋体の回動を考慮した余計な隙間をケースと収納部ユニットとの間に特に設けておく必要がなく、大きな隙間を無くすことができる分、見栄えを良くすることができる。また、蓋体を回動させて収納空間を開閉する上で、ケースは機能上、特に関係のない要素となるので、ケースを車体に固定する際などにケースが若干変形した場合にも、収納部ユニットの開閉に問題を来すおそれがなく、開閉時に蓋体がケースと擦れて異音を発生するようなこともない。
また、収納部ユニット自体に、収納空間を閉じることのできる本体と蓋体の両方が設けられていることにより、ケース側の構成の単純化を図ることができる。つまり、ケース側に収納空間の一部を画成するための壁面を設けておく必要がなく、ケース側には、単純に貫通した開口部をユニット装着口として設けておくだけでよくなる。従って、ケース側の形状の単純化が可能となり、樹脂成形する場合の金型の単純化が図れる上、ユニット装着口の周壁に補強リブを設けておくなどの成形上の余裕もできるようになる。そして、補強リブを設けることによって、ユニット装着口の変形防止を図ることができ、その結果、収納部ユニットとケースの隙間をより小さく設定することができるようになり、その点からも見栄えの向上が図れる。
