Definitions
- the present invention relates to an exhaust gas purification device for an internal combustion engine, and more particularly to an exhaust gas purification device provided with a venturi-shaped mixing chamber upstream of a catalyst device.
- a casing containing DPF is provided in an exhaust passage of an internal combustion engine.
- a vane plate is provided in which a large-diameter portion is disposed on the downstream side of the DPF to generate a swirling flow.
- the vane plate is provided with a contraction portion that reduces the diameter from the large diameter portion toward the small diameter portion on the downstream side, and a fuel nozzle is disposed therein as an additive injection means.
- a NOx storage catalyst is disposed as a catalyst device downstream of the small diameter portion.
- the exhaust gas of the internal combustion engine flows in the order of DPF, large diameter portion, contracted portion, and small diameter portion.
- NOx in the exhaust gas is occluded, and when the NOx occlusion amount reaches a predetermined value, NOx purge for releasing and reducing NOx from the NOx catalyst is executed.
- NOx purge the fuel injected from the fuel nozzle is supplied onto the NOx catalyst together with the exhaust gas, and NOx stored in the NOx catalyst is released and reduced by using this fuel as a reducing agent.
- a swirl flow is generated in the exhaust gas by the vane plate, and the mixing of the fuel into the exhaust gas is promoted.
- FIG. 4 is a block diagram showing such a conventional exhaust emission control device.
- a selective reduction type NOx catalyst 16 is disposed as a catalyst device downstream of the DPF 15. Between the DPF 15 and the NOx catalyst 16, the diameter-reduced portion 13 a that is reduced in diameter toward the downstream side passes through the throttle portion 13 b that has the smallest diameter, and the diameter-expanded portion 13 c that increases in diameter toward the downstream side.
- a continuously formed venturi-shaped mixing chamber 13 is provided.
- a vane plate 18 that generates a swirling flow is disposed on the upstream side in the reduced diameter portion 13a, and an injection nozzle 19 that injects urea water as an additive injection unit is provided immediately downstream of the vane plate 18. It has been.
- the exhaust gas flowing through the DPF 15 passes through the vane plate 18 in the reduced diameter portion 13a of the mixing chamber 13 to generate a swirling flow of the exhaust gas, and urea water is injected from the injection nozzle 19 into the exhaust gas.
- the exhaust gas is well mixed with the urea water while the flow path area is reduced in the process of flowing through the reduced diameter portion 13a.
- the exhaust gas flows through the throttle portion 13b to the enlarged diameter portion 13c, and in parallel with this, the urea water in the exhaust gas is hydrolyzed by the heat of the exhaust gas, thereby generating ammonia (NH 3 ).
- the exhaust gas diffuses in the process of flowing through the enlarged diameter portion 13c, and ammonia is distributed and supplied to the inlet of the downstream NOx catalyst 16. Using the ammonia thus supplied, NOx in the exhaust is selectively reduced in the NOx catalyst 16.
- the exhaust system of the internal combustion engine is routed around the powertrain and traveling equipment mounted on the vehicle body, an exhaust purification device that inevitably forms part of the exhaust system is also installed in the installation space.
- the DPF 15, the mixing chamber 13, and the NOx catalyst 16 that constitute the exhaust gas purification device need to be arranged in a line in terms of function, so that it is desired to reduce the total length of these components for mounting on the vehicle body. Since the shortening of the DPF 15 and the NOx catalyst 16 directly leads to a decrease in purification performance, the above-mentioned demand is often met by shortening the remaining mixing chamber 13.
- Such shortening of the mixing chamber 13 means shortening of the reduced diameter portion 13a and the enlarged diameter portion 13c.
- FIG. 4 shows a prior art exhaust purification device when the reduced diameter portion 13a is shortened
- FIG. 5 shows a prior art exhaust purification device when the enlarged diameter portion 13c is shortened. Yes.
- the present invention has been made to solve such problems.
- the object of the present invention is to sufficiently exhibit the mixing action of the exhaust gas and the additive by the reduced diameter portion of the mixing chamber and the diffusion action of the exhaust gas by the enlarged diameter portion of the mixing chamber even when the mixing chamber is shortened.

- Venturi-shaped mixing chamber formed in the passage and continuously formed from a reduced diameter portion that decreases in diameter toward the downstream side, through a narrowed portion that has the smallest diameter, and an enlarged diameter portion that increases in diameter toward the downstream side
- a swirling flow generating means disposed upstream of the reduced diameter portion of the mixing chamber and generating a swirling flow of exhaust, and disposed in the vicinity of the upstream side or the downstream side of the swirling flow generating means,
- Additive injection means for injecting the additive into the exhaust, and a distance a from the swirl flow generating means of the mixing chamber to the throttle portion and a distance b from the throttle portion to the inlet of the catalyst device
- the ratio a / b is 0.5 to 1. It is set in the range of.
- the present invention relates to an exhaust gas purification apparatus provided with a selective reduction type NOx catalyst as a catalyst apparatus and provided with an injection nozzle for injecting urea water as an additive injection means, by changing the mixing chamber ratio a / b.

- FIG. 2 is a test result showing the NOx purification rate characteristic at this time.
- the NOx purification rate gradually improves as the ratio a / b increases from around 0.45, and reaches a peak when the ratio a / b becomes around 0.95.
- the NOx purification rate starts to decrease when the ratio a / b increases from around 1.0.
- the ratio a / b is increased from around 1.0 where the NOx purification rate starts to decrease, the NOx purification rate does not improve, so the upper limit of the ratio a / b may exist near 1.0. I understand.
- FIG. 3 is a test result showing the ammonia slip amount characteristic at this time.
- the ammonia slip amount is very large when the ratio a / b is around 0.45, but rapidly decreases when the ratio a / b is around 0.5, which is slightly increased. To do.
- the ammonia slip amount starts to increase again when the ratio a / b further increases from around 1.0.
- the ammonia slip amount increases at a ratio a / b lower than 0.5, it can be seen that the lower limit of the ratio a / b exists in the vicinity of 0.5.
- the fact that the ammonia slip amount increases even at a ratio a / b higher than 1.0 supports the conclusion based on the NOx purification rate characteristic that the upper limit of the ratio a / b exists in the vicinity of 1.0. .
- the ratio a / b is within the range of 0.5 to 1.0 based on the view from the above test results. If the length of the reduced diameter part and the length of the enlarged diameter part are set as described above, the mixing action of the exhaust gas and the additive by the reduced diameter part of the mixing chamber and the diffusion action of the exhaust gas by the enlarged diameter part of the mixing chamber are sufficient. Is obtained.
- the catalytic device is a selective reduction type NOx catalyst that selectively reduces NOx in the exhaust gas using ammonia.
- urea water may be injected into the exhaust gas as an additive by the additive injection means. In this case, the exhaust gas and urea water are mixed well, and ammonia generated from the urea water is well dispersed and supplied to the NOx catalyst.
- the catalyst device is a storage type NOx catalyst that stores NOx in exhaust gas and releases and reduces NOx stored by fuel in the exhaust gas, and additive injection
- the fuel may be injected into the exhaust gas as an additive by means.
- the exhaust gas and the fuel are mixed well, and the fuel is well dispersed and supplied to the storage-type NOx catalyst.
- the exhaust gas purification apparatus for an internal combustion engine of the present invention can satisfactorily suppress a decrease in purification performance caused by shortening of the mixing chamber.

- Urea water is injected from the injection nozzle 19 into the exhaust gas with the swirling flow.
- the exhaust gas is well mixed with urea water while the flow cross-sectional area is reduced in the central direction of the reduced diameter portion 13a in the process of flowing through the reduced diameter portion 13a.
- the exhaust gas flows through the throttle portion 13b to the enlarged diameter portion 13c.
- the urea water in the exhaust is hydrolyzed by the heat of the exhaust to produce ammonia.
- the above two requirements of good mixing of urea water and good dispersion of ammonia are in a trade-off relationship.
- the inventors of the present invention based on the viewpoint that there exists an optimum setting range that can satisfy both of the two requirements regarding the length of the reduced diameter portion 13a and the enlarged diameter portion 13c of the mixing chamber 13.
- the performance test of the NOx catalyst 16 was performed while changing the length of the diameter portion 13c.
- the mixing action of the exhaust gas by the reduced diameter portion 13a and the urea water as an additive can be roughly obtained according to the length of the reduced diameter portion 13a, more precisely, the distance from the vane plate 18 to the throttle portion 13b.
- the distance a from the vane plate 18 to the center of the throttle portion 13b is set to the length of the reduced diameter portion 13a. It was determined as an indicator that correlates with
- the exhaust gas diffusing action by the enlarged diameter portion 13c is generally obtained according to the length of the enlarged diameter portion 13c, more accurately, it correlates with the distance from the throttle portion 13b to the inlet of the NOx catalyst 16. Therefore, the distance b from the center of the throttle portion 13b to the inlet of the NOx catalyst 16 is determined as an index that correlates with the length of the enlarged diameter portion 13c.
- the position of the downstream end of the enlarged diameter portion 13c and the position of the inlet of the NOx catalyst 16 in the exhaust flow direction coincide with each other, and therefore, the expansion from the center of the throttle portion 13b. Even if the distance b extends to the downstream end of the diameter portion 13c, there is substantially no difference.
- the distances a and b include the length of the diaphragm 13b.
- the setting of the distances a and b is not limited to this, and the distances a and b may be set by excluding the length of the aperture 13b.
- each of the distances a and b differs depending on the specification and size of the mixing chamber 13, and even if an optimum value can be found by the test, they cannot be applied to all the mixing chambers 13. Therefore, as described below, the ratio a / b of the distances a and b is obtained from the test results, and consideration is given to setting the shape of the mixing chamber 13 according to the ratio a / b.
- This total length value is set shorter than a general value, for example, assuming a limitation of installation space on the vehicle body. For this reason, in order to achieve both of the two requirements described above, the lengths a and b must be optimally set in the specifications of the exhaust emission control device applied to the test.
- ammonia slip amount the NOx purification rate obtained by the NOx catalyst 16 and the amount of ammonia leaking from the NOx catalyst 16 without contributing to the selective reduction of NOx.
- FIG. 2 is a test result showing the NOx purification rate characteristic when the test is performed based on the above various conditions.
- the ratio a / b is increased from around 0.45, the NOx purification rate gradually improves, and when the ratio a / b becomes around 0.95, the NOx purification rate reaches a peak. Furthermore, the NOx purification rate starts to decrease when the ratio a / b increases from around 1.0.
- Such a characteristic is that the extension of the reduced diameter portion 13a accompanying the increase in the ratio a / b promotes the mixing of the exhaust gas and the urea water in the reduced diameter portion 13a and improves the NOx purification rate, while the ratio a When / b exceeds 1.0, the demerit that the supply of ammonia becomes non-uniform due to the shortening of the expanded diameter portion 13c becomes more prominent, resulting in a decrease in the NOx purification rate. Presumed to be.
- FIG. 3 is a test result showing the ammonia slip amount characteristic when the test is performed based on the above-mentioned various conditions.
- the ratio a / b is around 0.45, the ammonia slip amount is very large, but when the ratio a / b is around 0.5, which is slightly increased, the ammonia slip amount sharply decreases.
- the ratio a / b further increases from around 1.0, the ammonia slip amount starts to increase again.
- Such a characteristic is that when the ratio a / b is in the vicinity of 0.45, the length of the reduced diameter portion 13a is insufficient, and insufficient mixing of exhaust gas and urea water causes ammonia slip, while the ratio a / b is 1. If it exceeds .0, the length of the enlarged diameter portion 13c is insufficient, and it is assumed that the non-uniform supply of ammonia causes ammonia slip.
- the lower limit of the ratio a / b exists in the vicinity of 0.5 because the ammonia slip amount increases at a ratio a / b lower than 0.5. Further, the fact that the ammonia slip amount increases even when the ratio a / b is higher than 1.0 is the conclusion based on the NOx purification rate characteristic that the upper limit of the ratio a / b exists in the vicinity of 1.0 as described above. Is backed up.
- the ratio a / b is within the range of 0.5 to 1.0 based on the view of the above test results.
- the length of the reduced diameter portion 13a and the length b of the enlarged diameter portion 13c may be set so that Thereby, the mixing action of the exhaust gas by the reduced diameter portion 13a of the mixing chamber 13 and the urea water as the additive, and the exhaust gas diffusion action by the enlarged diameter portion 13c of the mixing chamber 13 can be sufficiently obtained. As a result, it is possible to minimize the ammonia slip amount while realizing a good NOx purification rate.
- the aspect of the present invention is not limited to this embodiment.
- the present invention by applying the present invention to the exhaust gas purification device of the diesel engine 1 provided with the selective reduction type NOx catalyst 16, the diameter of the mixing chamber 13 for mixing and diffusing urea water in the exhaust gas is reduced.
- the length of the part 13a and the enlarged diameter part 13c was set.
- the engine to which the present invention is applied is not limited to this as long as the engine includes a catalyst device that requires supply of an additive.
- a storage type NOx catalyst for storing NOx in exhaust gas is provided in the exhaust passage, and NOx purge for injecting fuel as an additive into the exhaust passage is periodically performed to release and reduce the stored NOx from the NOx catalyst.
- the present invention may be applied to an engine that needs to be executed.
- the NOx catalyst 16 is replaced with a storage-type NOx catalyst in the exhaust purification device of FIG. 1, and fuel is injected from the injection nozzle 19 instead of urea water.
- the lengths of the reduced diameter portion 13a and the enlarged diameter portion 13c of the mixing chamber 13 may be set in the same manner as in the above embodiment, and the same operational effects as in the above embodiment can be obtained.
- the lengths of the reduced diameter portion 13a and the enlarged diameter portion 13c need to be set so that the ratio a / b is in the range of 0.5 to 1.0.
- the total length of the other mixing chambers 13 is not limited.
- the total length L, the length c, and the like can be arbitrarily changed.
- the diameters of the upstream and downstream casings 11 and 12 are not necessarily the same, and may be set to different diameters.
- the injection nozzle 19 is not necessarily provided immediately downstream of the vane plate 18. That is, the injection nozzle 19 may be disposed on the upstream side of the vane plate in the reduced diameter portion 13a, or may be disposed on the downstream side of the DPF 15 in the upstream casing 11.
