Definitions
- the present invention relates to an electric toothbrush.
- Patent Documents 1 and 2 disclose an electric toothbrush capable of switching between a reciprocating motion (rolling motion) and a linear reciprocating motion (bus motion) by switching the rotation direction of a motor.
- Patent Document 3 discloses the idea of detecting the direction around the axis of the toothbrush body in four or eight stages and estimating the brushing site from the detection result. Specifically, a plurality of fan-shaped sections are provided in the circumferential direction inside the main body, and the direction of the toothbrush main body is estimated by detecting which section the conductive sphere is in from the change in electrical resistance. is doing. However, it is difficult to reduce the size of such a mechanism, and it is difficult to obtain high detection accuracy because the position of the sphere is not stabilized by the movement of the toothbrush. In Patent Document 3, the number and time of brushing are recorded for each part, and an evaluation of whether or not the brushing is performed properly is output. - An object of the present invention is to provide a technique for further improving plaque removal power and treatment feeling of an electric toothbrush.
- the present invention adopts the following configuration.
- the electric toothbrush of the present invention is estimated by a brush, a drive unit that moves the brush, a posture detection unit that detects the posture of the brush, and a part estimation unit that estimates a brushing part based on the detected posture.
- the “brushing part” refers to a part that is brushed by a brush (a brush is hit) among a plurality of parts that are defined by dividing the dentition surface in the oral cavity.
- a brush a brush is hit
- parts lingual / buccal, tooth / mating surface, periodontal pocket, etc.
- food residue and plaque are attached differently. Therefore, there is a difference in effective brushing operation for each part, such as how to apply a brush, how to move it, and speed.
- the brush application is reversed on the right and left sides of the dentition.
- the electric toothbrush of the present invention employs a configuration in which the brushing part is automatically estimated and the operation mode is automatically switched according to the estimated brushing part.
- part can be implement
- the driving unit includes a rotation motor, and the control unit switches a rotation direction of the rotation motor according to a brushing part.
- control means switches the motion frequency of the brush according to the brushing part.
- control such as lowering the motion frequency in a sensitive region (a region where strong brushing is not desirable) or increasing the motion frequency in a region where a high brushing effect is desired.
- the posture detection means includes an acceleration sensor and detects a three-dimensional posture of the brush based on an output of the acceleration sensor.
- a uniaxial acceleration sensor can be used, and preferably a multiaxial (biaxial, triaxial, or more) acceleration sensor can be used.
- the posture detection means has a gyroscope and detects the three-dimensional posture of the brush based on the output of the acceleration sensor and the output of the gyroscope.
- the output of the acceleration sensor includes a gravitational acceleration component and a dynamic acceleration component.
- the gravitational acceleration component indicates the three-dimensional posture of the brush
- the dynamic acceleration component is an unnecessary signal component. Therefore, the three-dimensional posture of the brush can be calculated with higher accuracy by referring to the output of the gyroscope and canceling the dynamic acceleration component.
- Brush angle estimation means for estimating a brush angle, which is an angle of the brush with respect to the tooth axis, based on the detected posture, and the control means is configured to control the driving means according to the estimated brushing part and brush angle. It is preferable to switch the operation mode.
- load control means for detecting a load acting on the brush is further provided, and the control means prohibits switching of the operation mode while no load is acting on the brush.
- the posture of the brush changes greatly, so there is a possibility that the operation mode is frequently switched during the movement.
- Such a phenomenon is not preferable because it makes control unstable and generates unnecessary power consumption. Therefore, as described in the present invention, by prohibiting the operation mode switching while no load is applied to the brush, the occurrence of the above phenomenon during the movement of the brush can be suppressed.
- the present invention can further improve the plaque removing power and treatment feeling of the electric toothbrush.

- the electric toothbrush includes an electric toothbrush main body 1 (hereinafter also simply referred to as “main body 1”) including a motor 10 as a driving source, and a vibration member 2 having a brush 210.
- the main body 1 has a generally cylindrical shape, and also serves as a handle portion for a user to hold with his / her hand when brushing teeth.
- the main body 1 is provided with a switch S for turning on / off the power.
- a motor 10 as a drive source
- a drive circuit 12 a rechargeable battery 13 as a 2.4V power source, a charging coil 14 and the like are provided.
- the drive circuit 12 includes a CPU (input / output processing unit) 120 that executes various calculations and controls, a memory 121 that stores programs and various setting values, a timer 122, and the like.
- a multi-axis (three axes of x, y, z in this case) acceleration sensor 15 is provided inside the main body 1.
- the acceleration sensor 15 is installed so that the x-axis is parallel to the brush surface, the y-axis coincides with the longitudinal direction of the main body 1, and the z-axis is perpendicular to the brush surface. Is done. That is, when the main body 1 is placed on the charger 100, the gravitational acceleration vector is parallel to the y-axis, and when the brush surface is directed upward, the gravitational acceleration vector is parallel to the z-axis. When the brush surface is oriented horizontally, the gravitational acceleration vector becomes parallel to the x axis.
- the output of each axis of the acceleration sensor 15 is input to the CPU 120 and used to detect the three-dimensional posture of the brush.
- the acceleration sensor 15 a piezoresistive type, a capacitance type, or a heat detection type MEMS sensor can be preferably used. This is because the MEMS sensor is very small and can be easily incorporated into the body 1.
- the form of the acceleration sensor 15 is not limited to this, and an electrodynamic sensor, a strain gauge sensor, a piezoelectric sensor, or the like may be used.
- a band pass filter (low pass filter) for removing dynamic acceleration components and noise may be provided. Further, noise may be reduced by smoothing the output waveform of the acceleration sensor.
- FIG. 27 shows an example in which high frequency noise in the output waveform is reduced by averaging data of several hundreds of milliseconds before and after.
- the vibration member 2 includes a stem portion 20 fixed to the main body 1 side and a brush component 21 attached to the stem portion 20.
- a brush 210 is planted at the tip of the brush component 21. Since the brush part 21 is a consumable part, it is configured to be detachable from the stem portion 20 so that it can be replaced with a new one.
- the stem portion 20 is made of a resin material.
- the stem portion 20 is attached to the main body 1 via an elastic member 202 made of an elastomer.
- the stem portion 20 is a cylindrical member whose tip (brush side end) is closed, and has a bearing 203 at the tip inside the tube.
- the tip of the eccentric shaft 30 connected to the rotating shaft 11 of the motor 10 is inserted into the bearing 203 of the stem portion 20.
- the eccentric shaft 30 has a weight 300 in the vicinity of the bearing 203, and the center of gravity of the eccentric shaft 30 is deviated from the center of rotation. A minute clearance is provided between the tip of the eccentric shaft 30 and the bearing 203.
- the CPU 120 supplies a drive signal (for example, a pulse width modulation signal) corresponding to the operation mode to the motor 10 to rotate the rotating shaft 11 of the motor 10.
- the eccentric shaft 30 also rotates with the rotation of the rotating shaft 11, but the eccentric shaft 30 performs a movement that turns around the center of rotation because the center of gravity is shifted. Therefore, the tip of the eccentric shaft 30 repeatedly collides with the inner wall of the bearing 203, and the stem portion 20 and the brush component 21 attached thereto are vibrated (moved) at high speed.
- the motor 10 serves as a driving unit that vibrates (moves) the brush
- the eccentric shaft 30 is a motion transmission mechanism (motion converting mechanism) that converts the output (rotation) of the motor 10 into the vibration of the vibration member 2.
- the user can perform brushing by holding the main body 1 by hand and applying a brush 210 that vibrates at high speed to the teeth.
- the CPU 120 monitors the continuous operation time using the timer 122, and automatically stops the vibration of the brush when a predetermined time (for example, 2 minutes) elapses.
- the eccentric shaft 30 that is a motion transmission mechanism is included in the vibration member 2, and in particular, the weight 300 is disposed in the vicinity of the brush 210. Therefore, the portion of the brush 210 can be vibrated efficiently.
- the vibration member 2 stem portion 20
- the vibration of the vibration member 2 is hardly transmitted to the main body 1. Therefore, the vibration of the main body 1 and the hand when brushing teeth can be reduced, and the feeling of use can be improved.
- the electric toothbrush of the present embodiment estimates the brushing part based on the posture of the brush detected by the acceleration sensor 15, and automatically sets the operation mode (rotation direction, rotation speed, etc.) of the motor 10 according to the brushing part. Switch to.
- the upper and lower dentitions are divided into “maxillary anterior cheek side”, “maxillary anterior tongue side”, “maxillary left cheek side”, “maxillary left lingual side”, “maxillary left chewing side”.
- the region is divided into 16 parts: “tongue side”, “mandibular left occlusal surface”, “mandibular right cheek side”, “mandibular right lingual side”, and “mandibular right occlusal surface”.
- the division of the dentition is not limited to this, and may be a broader division or a finer division.
- FIG. 5 is a flowchart of the main routine
- FIGS. 6 to 9 are flowcharts showing details of each process of the main routine. Note that the processing described below is processing executed by the CPU 120 according to a program unless otherwise specified.
- the CPU 120 detects the posture (tilt) of the brush based on the output of the acceleration sensor 15 (S10). Next, CPU120 estimates a brushing site
- the processes of S10 to S30 are repeatedly executed at regular time intervals, and the operation mode is appropriately changed every time the brushing part is changed.
- the continuous operation time reaches a predetermined time (for example, 2 minutes), or the operation mode is switched manually, the main routine of FIG. 5 ends.
- a predetermined time for example, 2 minutes
- FIG. 6 is a flowchart of the posture detection process (S10).
- CPU 120 obtains the respective outputs Ax, Ay, Az of x, y, z from the acceleration sensor 15 (S100).
- Ax represents an acceleration component in the x direction
- Ay represents an acceleration component in the y direction
- Az represents an acceleration component in the z direction.
- A (Ax, Ay, Az) is called an attitude vector.
- FIGS. 10 and 11 are diagrams illustrating examples of acceleration sensor outputs Ax, Ay, and Az for each brushing part.
- the CPU 120 determines whether the upper jaw or the lower jaw based on the output Az of the acceleration sensor in the z direction (S700).
- the determination is focused on the fact that the brush surface is upward rather than downward, and when brushing the lower jaw dentition, the brush surface is not lower than downward.
- Az>0 the lower jaw (S801) is determined, and when Az ⁇ 0, the upper jaw (S701) is determined.
- the CPU 120 determines whether or not it is an anterior tooth based on the output Ay of the acceleration sensor in the y direction (S702).
- Ay threshold value a
- the CPU 120 determines whether it is the cheek side or the tongue side based on the output Ax of the acceleration sensor in the x direction (S704). This determination is focused on the fact that the direction of the brush is reversed between the cheek side and the tongue side. When Ax> 0, it is determined as “upper front cheek side” (S705), and when Ax ⁇ 0, it is determined as “upper front tongue side” (S706).
- the CPU 120 determines whether or not it is a meshing surface based on the output Ax of the acceleration sensor in the x direction (S707).
- the determination is focused on the fact that the brush surface is substantially horizontal and the output of Ax is very small.
- threshold value b> Ax> threshold value c it is determined that “the upper jaw left engagement surface or the upper jaw right engagement surface” (S708).
- the upper jaw left engagement surface and the upper jaw right engagement surface are not particularly distinguished. This is because in the case of the meshing surface, there is little need to change the brushing operation on the left and right.
- the CPU 120 determines whether Ax is greater than 0 or not (S709). This determination is focused on the fact that the direction of the brush is reversed between the cheek side and the tongue side. When Ax> 0, it is determined as “upper right cheek side or upper left tongue side” (S710), and when Ax ⁇ 0, it is determined as “upper left cheek side or upper maxillary right tongue side” (S711). In the first embodiment, the right upper cheek side and the upper left lingual side are not particularly distinguished. This is because there is little need to change the brushing operation between the two parts. The same applies to the maxillary left cheek side and the maxillary right lingual side.
- the CPU 120 determines whether or not it is an anterior tooth based on the output Ay of the acceleration sensor in the y direction (S802).
- Ay ⁇ threshold d it is determined as a lower anterior tooth (S803).
- the CPU 120 determines whether it is the cheek side or the tongue side based on the output Ax of the acceleration sensor in the x direction (S804). This determination is focused on the fact that the direction of the brush is reversed between the cheek side and the tongue side. When Ax ⁇ 0, it is determined as “mandibular anterior cheek side” (S805), and when Ax ⁇ 0, it is determined as “mandibular anterior tongue side” (S806).
- the CPU 120 determines whether or not it is a meshing surface based on the output Ax of the acceleration sensor in the x direction (S807).
- the determination is focused on the fact that the brush surface is substantially horizontal and the output of Ax is very small.
- threshold e> Ax> threshold f it is determined that “the lower jaw left occlusal surface or the lower jaw right occlusal surface” (S808).
- the lower jaw left engagement surface and the lower jaw right engagement surface are not particularly distinguished. This is because in the case of the meshing surface, there is little need to change the brushing operation on the left and right.
- the CPU 120 determines whether the cheek side or the tongue side depending on whether Ax is greater than 0 (S809). This determination is focused on the fact that the direction of the brush is reversed between the cheek side and the tongue side. When Ax> 0, it is determined as “mandibular right cheek side or mandibular left lingual side” (S810), and when Ax ⁇ 0, it is determined as “mandibular left cheek side or mandibular right lingual side” (S811). In the first embodiment, there is no particular distinction between the lower jaw right cheek side and the lower jaw left tongue side. This is because there is little need to change the brushing operation between the two parts. The same applies to the lower jaw left cheek side or the lower jaw right tongue side.
- the current brushing site is “maxillary front cheek side” (S705), “maxillary anterior tongue side” (S706), “maxillary meshing surface” (S708), “maxillary right cheek side or maxillary left tongue.
- the above determination algorithm is merely an example, and any determination algorithm may be used as long as the brushing part can be specified from the outputs Ax, Ay, and Az of the acceleration sensor.
- secondary variables obtained by appropriately combining Ax, Ay, Az may be used for determination.
- the secondary variable can be arbitrarily set, for example, Ay / Az, Ax ⁇ Ax + Ay ⁇ Ay, Az ⁇ Ax, and the like.
- the brushing part may be determined after converting the acceleration information Ax, Ay, Az of each axis into angle information (attitude angles) ⁇ , ⁇ , ⁇ as shown in FIG. In the example of FIG.
- the x-axis angle with respect to the gravitational acceleration direction is defined as a roll angle ⁇
- the y-axis angle with respect to the gravitational acceleration direction is defined as a pitch angle ⁇
- the z-axis angle with respect to the gravitational acceleration direction is defined as a yaw angle ⁇ .
- the vibration of the brush is generated using the turning motion of the eccentric shaft.
- the brush vibrates while drawing an elliptical trajectory in a plane perpendicular to the rotation axis of the motor (in the zx plane). Since the vibration mechanism of the toothbrush is symmetric with respect to the yz plane, when the rotation direction of the motor is reversed, the brush draws a symmetrical trajectory with respect to the yz plane.
- FIG. 12 schematically shows the rotation direction of the motor and the movement of the brush.
- the brush tip moves to scrape the plaque from the periodontal pocket on the right lingual side of the lower jaw, but on the right cheek side of the lower jaw, the brush tip moves to push the plaque into the periodontal pocket.
- the hair ends move. Therefore, it can be seen that when brushing the lower lingual right lingual side, it is better to rotate the motor forward.
- the brush tip moves like scratching plaque. Based on such knowledge, in this embodiment, the rotation direction (forward / reverse) of the rotary motor is switched according to the brushing part.
- FIG. 9 is a flowchart of the operation mode switching process (S30).
- the CPU 120 checks whether or not the brushing part has changed by comparing the brushing part specified in S20 with the brushing part in the previous process (the process one clock before) (S900).
- part at the time of the last process is memorize
- the CPU 120 determines that the current brushing region is “first lower buccal side, lower right lingual side, upper left lingual side, upper left buccal side” and “lower right jaw”. It is determined which one of the second groups of the buccal side, the lower jaw left tongue side, the upper jaw right tongue side, and the upper jaw left cheek side is applicable (S901). In the case of the first group, the CPU 120 sets the rotation direction of the motor to normal rotation (S902). In the case of the second group, the CPU 120 reverses the rotation direction of the motor (S903).
- FIG. 13 is a flowchart of the operation mode switching process (S30 in FIG. 5) according to the second embodiment.
- the CPU 120 checks whether or not the brushing part has changed by comparing the brushing part specified in S20 with the brushing part in the previous process (the process one clock before) (S900).
- part at the time of the last process is memorize
- the CPU 120 determines that the current brushing part is “the lower anterior cheek side, the lower anterior tongue side, the upper anterior cheek side, the upper anterior tongue side”, the first group, “the lower left cheek. Side, mandibular left lingual side, mandibular right buccal side, mandibular right lingual side, maxillary left buccal side, maxillary left lingual side, maxillary right buccal side, maxillary right lingual side "," mandibular left occlusal surface, mandibular It is determined which one of the third groups of the right engagement surface, the upper jaw left engagement surface, and the upper jaw right engagement surface is applicable (S1301).
- the first group is a region where the gingiva is sensitive, and it is preferable to not brush too strongly.
- the third group is a region where the brush does not hit the gums and a high brushing effect is desired.
- the CPU 120 controls the number of rotations of the motor so that the brush vibrates at a frequency one step lower than the current set value (S1302).
- the CPU 120 controls the rotation speed of the motor so that the brush vibrates at the vibration frequency of the current set value (S1303).
- the CPU 120 controls the number of rotations of the motor so that the brush vibrates at a frequency one step higher than the current set value (S1304). For example, in a toothbrush that can switch the frequency to 5 levels, if the current set value is “3”, the brushing of the first group is “2” and the brushing of the second group is “3”. The frequency and the third group of brushing are performed at a frequency of “4”.
- the vibration frequency of the brush is controlled by paying attention to the stimulation of the gingiva for each brushing site, but it is also possible to control the vibration frequency of the brush for other purposes.
- the brushing effect is increased by increasing the frequency at the part where the contact area is large (for example, the front cheek side of the upper jaw, the meshing surface).
- Control may be performed to reduce the frequency at a portion having a small area (for example, the left tongue side of the lower jaw, the right cheek side of the upper jaw).
- the frequency is controlled in three stages, but the frequency may be changed in two stages or four or more stages.
- the driving speed When changing the brush driving speed (vibration frequency, rotation speed, etc.), the driving speed may be changed suddenly as shown in the upper part of FIG. 29. However, if the driving speed changes rapidly or frequently during brushing. There is a risk of giving the user a sense of incongruity or making the control unstable. Therefore, it is also preferable to perform control such that the driving speed changes gently (or stepwise) as shown in the lower part of FIG. For example, the rotational speed of the motor may be controlled so that the speed change rate does not exceed a certain set value.
- CPU120 estimates a brush angle based on the attitude
- the vibration of the brush is generated by utilizing the turning motion of the eccentric shaft, and the brush vibrates in an elliptical orbit in a plane perpendicular to the rotation axis of the motor.
- the present inventors have found that this electric toothbrush has the following vibration characteristics by observing and analyzing the vibration of the brush while changing the vibration frequency (motor rotation speed).
- the brush portion has at least two resonance points (resonance frequencies).
- the direction of resonance at each resonance point is different. Specifically, as shown in FIG. 14, the amplitude in the x-axis direction parallel to the brush surface increases at the resonance point on the low frequency side (first resonance: about 12,500 spm). At the resonance point on the higher frequency side (second resonance: about 38000 spm), the amplitude in the z-axis direction perpendicular to the brush surface increases. Outside of resonance (eg, about 26500 spm), the brush follows a trajectory that is oblique (about 45 degrees) with respect to the x-axis (z-axis). Note that “spm” is a unit representing the number of swings per minute.
- the reason why a plurality of resonances with different directions appear is largely due to the structure of the electric toothbrush and its driving principle.
- the inventors of the present invention repeat the experiment while changing the configuration of the eccentric shaft and the brush, whereby the first resonance point mainly depends on the motion transmission mechanism, and the second resonance point mainly depends on the brush.
- the knowledge that it is a characteristic has been acquired.
- the frequency and amplitude of the first resonance point can be adjusted by changing the structure and shape of the motion transmission mechanism (simply the position, size, weight, etc. of the weight of the eccentric shaft), and the structure of the brush It was found that the frequency and amplitude of the second resonance point can be adjusted by changing the shape.
- the brush angle is the contact angle of the brush with respect to the tooth axis (axis along the tooth head and root).
- the left side of FIG. 15 shows the motor in the normal rotation state, and the right side shows the motor in the reverse state.
- Each arrow represents the movement of the brush (the direction with the largest amplitude).
- the brush moves sideways (x-axis direction) in the first resonance, the brush moves vertically (z-axis direction) in the second resonance, and the brush moves diagonally outside the resonance.
- the moving direction of the brush is oblique (for example, 45 degrees) with respect to the tooth axis. Therefore, in the example of FIG. 15, it is understood that the second resonance motion is optimal when the brush angle is 45 degrees.
- the brush angle is 90 degrees, it is understood that the movement outside the resonance of the motor normal rotation is optimal on the right tongue side of the lower jaw, and the movement outside the resonance of the motor reverse rotation is optimal on the right jaw side of the lower jaw.
- the optimum operation mode motor rotation direction and brush frequency
- the brush angle can be estimated from the acceleration component Az in the z direction, for example. As shown in FIG. 16, when the brush angle is about 90 degrees, Az is almost 0, and as the brush angle becomes smaller, the value of Az increases. Thus, the value of Az changes significantly according to the brush angle. Because it does. Since the acceleration component Ax in the x direction also changes according to the brush angle, the brush angle is estimated from Ax instead of Az, or the brush angle is calculated from both Ax and Az (the direction of the combined vector of Ax and Az). It is also preferable to estimate.
- the brush angle is determined by a simple process of comparison with.
- FIG. 17 is a flowchart of the main routine of the third embodiment.
- the difference from the first embodiment is that a brush angle estimation process (S25) is added.
- S25 when the absolute value of Az obtained in S10 is smaller than a predetermined threshold (when close to 0), the CPU 120 regards the brush angle as 90 degrees, and if the absolute value of Az is equal to or larger than the threshold.
- the brush angle is 45 degrees. This function of the CPU 120 corresponds to the brush angle estimating means of the present invention.
- FIG. 18 is a flowchart of the operation mode switching process (S30 in FIG. 17).
- the CPU 120 checks whether the brushing part or the brush angle has changed by comparing the brushing part specified in S20 and the brush angle specified in S25 with the brushing part and the brush angle in the previous process. (S1800).
- the brushing part and the brush angle at the time of the previous processing are stored in the memory.
- the CPU 120 determines that the current brushing part is “the lower jaw left cheek side, the lower jaw right tongue side, the upper jaw left tongue side, the upper jaw right cheek side” and the first group; It is determined which one of the second groups “the lower jaw right cheek side, the lower jaw left tongue side, the upper jaw right tongue side, the upper jaw left cheek side” corresponds (S1801). In the case of the first group, the CPU 120 sets the rotation direction of the motor to normal rotation (S1802). In the case of the second group, the CPU 120 reverses the rotation direction of the motor (S1803).
- the CPU 12 controls the vibration frequency of the brush to the second resonance (high speed) when the brush angle is 45 degrees (S1804, S1805), and sets the vibration frequency of the brush outside the resonance (medium speed) when the brush angle is 90 degrees. (S1806).
- the control of the present embodiment described above based on the information on the brushing part and the brush angle, it is possible to realize the movement of the brush tip that is most suitable for the brushing of the interdental and periodontal pockets. Improvements can be made. In this case, it is more effective to use an ultrasonic vibration element in combination in order to kill periodontal disease bacteria in the periodontal pocket.
- the brush angle is estimated in two steps of 45 degrees and 90 degrees here, the brush angle is estimated in three steps or more or continuously, and the brush frequency is changed in three steps or more. May be.
- FIG. 19 is a block diagram of the electric toothbrush of the fourth embodiment.
- the electric toothbrush of the present embodiment includes a multi-axis (three-axis here) gyroscope 16 inside the main body 1.
- the gyroscope 16 is installed so as to detect an angular velocity around the z axis, an angular velocity around the x axis, and an angular velocity around the y axis.
- any type such as a vibration type, an optical type, and a mechanical type can be used, but a MEMS sensor is preferably used because it is small and can be easily incorporated into the main body 1. it can.
- a rate gyro that outputs an angular velocity a rate integration gyro or an attitude gyro that outputs an angle may be used.
- a band pass filter may be applied to the output of the gyroscope.
- the output of the acceleration sensor 15 substantially includes only the gravitational acceleration component.
- the acceleration sensor 15 includes not only the gravitational acceleration component but also the dynamic acceleration component. Can be.
- the dynamic acceleration component is an unnecessary signal component (noise) in calculating the three-dimensional posture.
- the output of the gyroscope 16 is not observed when the toothbrush body 1 is in a stationary state, and a significant signal is output only when the toothbrush body 1 is moving.
- the three-dimensional posture of the toothbrush is detected based on the outputs of both the acceleration sensor 15 and the gyroscope 16 by utilizing such a difference in sensor characteristics.
- the CPU 120 first obtains the output of the acceleration sensor 15 and the output of the gyroscope 16.
- the CPU 120 considers the toothbrush body 1 to be stationary and obtains a three-dimensional posture from the outputs Ax, Ay, Az of the acceleration sensor 15.
- the CPU 120 estimates the dynamic acceleration components in the x, y, and z directions from the output of the gyroscope 16, and Ax, Ay , Az values are corrected. As a result, the dynamic acceleration components included in Ax, Ay, and Az are canceled, and the three-dimensional posture of the brush can be calculated with high accuracy.
- a process of not detecting the posture of the brush when the output of the gyroscope is obtained may be used. That is, only when the output of the gyroscope is smaller than a predetermined threshold, processing such as posture detection, brushing site estimation, brush angle estimation, and operation mode switching is performed. Thus, the operation mode switching is executed only when the posture estimated from the output of the acceleration sensor has a certain degree of reliability.
- the angle change amount ⁇ yz around the x axis, the angle change amount ⁇ zx around the y axis, and the angle change amount ⁇ xy around the z axis are calculated from the output of the gyroscope, and the posture obtained by posture detection processing one clock before
- the posture of the electric toothbrush may be calculated and evaluated based on the angle information (see FIG. 28) of the roll angle ⁇ , the pitch angle ⁇ , and the yaw angle ⁇ instead of the acceleration information Ax, Ay, Az.
- the tertiary of the electric toothbrush by combining the output of the acceleration sensor and the gyroscope (including selecting either the output of the acceleration sensor or the gyroscope according to the condition), the tertiary of the electric toothbrush
- the original posture can be obtained with higher accuracy.
- posture information with sufficient accuracy can be obtained even with a combination of an acceleration sensor and a bandpass filter.
- the method of this embodiment using the angular velocity information of the gyroscope is effective.
- FIG. 20 is a block diagram of the electric toothbrush of the fifth embodiment.
- the electric toothbrush of the present embodiment includes a load sensor (load detection means) 17 that detects a load acting on the brush.
- a load sensor load detection means
- any type such as a strain gauge, a load cell, and a pressure sensor can be used, but a MEMS sensor can be suitably used because it is small and can be easily incorporated into the main body 1. .
- FIG. 21 is a flowchart of the main routine of the fifth embodiment. The difference from the first embodiment is that a load detection process (S5) is added.
- the CPU 120 determines whether a load is applied to the brush based on the load information obtained from the load sensor 17. For example, when the output value of the load sensor 17 exceeds a predetermined threshold value, it may be regarded that “a load is applied to the brush”. Until the load is applied to the brush, the processing after the next step is in a waiting state (S5; NO). As a result, while the load is not applied to the brush, processing such as posture detection, brushing site estimation, brush angle estimation, and operation mode switching is prohibited.
- the posture of the brush changes greatly, so there is a possibility that the operation mode is frequently switched during the movement.
- Such a phenomenon is not preferable because it makes control unstable and generates unnecessary power consumption. Therefore, as in the present embodiment, by monitoring the load acting on the brush and appropriately prohibiting processing such as posture detection and operation mode switching, the occurrence of the above phenomenon during brush movement can be suppressed.
- the load information may be used to control the operation mode.
- the vibration characteristics and resonance point of the brush change, and the first resonance and the second resonance described in the third embodiment may not appear well. Therefore, by appropriately adjusting the brush vibration frequency (motor rotation speed) according to the load acting on the brush, it is possible to cover the deviation of the resonance point and accurately reproduce the resonance phenomenon.
- the correspondence between the magnitude of the load and the resonance point can be obtained by experiments.
- the load sensor 17 is used, but it is also possible to detect the load by other means. For example, as the load acting on the brush increases, the load on the motor increases and the value of the current flowing through the motor increases. Therefore, the current value flowing through the motor can be monitored, and the load acting on the brush can be estimated from the current value.
- a load is applied to the brush by monitoring the output of the acceleration sensor 15.
- the elastic member between the toothbrush body 1 and the vibration member 2 is deformed, and the posture of the toothbrush body 1 is changed. It changes slightly.
- This change in posture can be observed as a change in waveform of the acceleration sensor output as shown in FIG. 23, for example. That is, at the moment when the posture changes, the level of at least one sensor output slightly shifts, and the level after the shift is maintained while the brush is pressed against the teeth. It is possible to determine whether or not a load is applied to the brush by capturing such a waveform change.
- the acceleration sensor 15 can be used as a load detecting means, it is preferable because the toothbrush can be reduced in size and cost by reducing the number of parts.
- FIG. 24 shows the brush portion of the electric toothbrush of the sixth embodiment.
- the electric toothbrush of this embodiment is provided with the temperature sensor 18 which detects the temperature of a brush part.
- the temperature sensor 18 is installed on the back surface of the brush. Any type of temperature sensor 18 such as an infrared sensor or a thermistor can be used.
- 25 and 26 are flowcharts of the brushing part estimation process (S20).
- the difference from the brushing part estimation process (FIGS. 7 and 8) of the first embodiment is that discrimination between the cheek side and the tongue side is performed based on the output of the temperature sensor 18.
- the CPU 120 determines whether the output value of the temperature sensor 18 is within a predetermined range. It is determined whether or not (S2500).
- S2500 When the brush is on the cheek side, since the temperature sensor 18 is in contact with or close to the back side of the cheek, an output value close to body temperature is obtained.
- the brush is on the lingual side, since the temperature sensor 18 touches the outside air, an output value lower than the body temperature is obtained.
- the CPU 120 determines “upper right cheek side” when the output value of the temperature sensor 18 is within a range of 36 ° to 38 ° (S2501), and otherwise sets “upper left jaw side”. Determination is made (S2502). Similarly, “maxillary left cheek side” and “maxillary right tongue side” can also be discriminated based on the output value of the temperature sensor 18 (S2503 to S2505). Similarly, in the processing of the lower jaw, based on the output value of the temperature sensor 18, the discrimination between “the lower left lingual side” and “the lower right cheek side” (S 2600 to S 2602), and “the lower right lingual side” and “the lower jaw” "Left cheek side” can be determined (S2603 to S2605).
- the brushing part can be determined more finely than in the first embodiment, and more flexible operation mode control can be realized.
- FIG. 30 shows a brush portion of the electric toothbrush of the seventh embodiment.
- the temperature information by the temperature sensor 18 is used for identifying the brushing part (discrimination between the cheek side and the tongue side), but in the seventh embodiment, image information is used.
- a camera 19 is provided at the tip of the brush head in the y-axis direction.
- any camera such as a visible light camera or an infrared camera may be used as long as it can acquire intraoral image information.
- An infrared camera monitors radiant heat (also called thermography). Since the inside of the oral cavity during brushing may be dark, an infrared camera is preferable to a visible light camera. In the present embodiment, as described below, it is only necessary to know the outline of the uvula, so the resolution of the camera may not be so high.
- the CPU 120 narrows down to “maxillary left cheek side or maxillary right lingual side” based on the output of the acceleration sensor 15 as in the sixth embodiment (see S710 in FIG. 25).
- the CPU 120 acquires an image from the camera 19 and detects the uvula from the image.
- a known image analysis technique can be used for detection of the uvula. For example, detection of the contour of the uvula by edge extraction or Hough transform, detection of the uvula by pattern matching, or the like can be considered.
- the tip of the brush head faces toward the throat, so there is a high probability that the uvula appears in the image.
- the CPU 120 determines “maxillary right tongue side” when the uvula can be detected, and determines “maxillary left cheek side” when the uvula cannot be detected.
- “maxillary left cheek side” and “maxillary right tongue side”, “mandibular left tongue side” and “mandibular right cheek side”, “mandibular right tongue side” and “mandibular left cheek side” can be distinguished. It is.
- the brushing part can be determined more finely than in the first embodiment, and more flexible operation mode control can be realized.
- image information is used only for discrimination between the cheek side / lingual side, but it is also possible to use image information for discrimination between the maxilla / mandible and front / right / left side. Furthermore, it is also preferable to identify all brushing sites based on image information. However, since the inside of the oral cavity is narrow and it is difficult to understand the overall positional relationship, it is better to use it in combination with posture information from an acceleration sensor (acceleration sensor and gyroscope) than to identify all brushing sites only from image information. Further, in this embodiment, the uvula is the detection target, but the position and posture of the brush may be determined by recognizing other parts in the oral cavity (for example, tongue, throat, teeth, gingiva, etc.). For example, if a tongue or throat appears in the image, it can be determined that the brush is on the lingual side.
- the eighth embodiment employs a configuration in which posture detection and brushing site identification are performed by a uniaxial acceleration sensor.
- the upper part of FIG. 31 shows a state where the buccal or lingual tooth surface is brushed.
- the brush angle (yaw angle ⁇ ) is about 90 degrees
- the x-axis direction component of gravity acceleration is about 1 g or ⁇ 1 g (positive or negative corresponds to the left and right of the dentition)
- the lower part of FIG. 31 shows a state where the meshing surface is brushed.
- the brush angle (yaw angle ⁇ ) is approximately 0 degrees
- the x-axis direction component of gravitational acceleration is approximately 0
- the z-axis direction component of gravitational acceleration is approximately 1 g or ⁇ 1 g (positive or negative is the dentition) Corresponding to the top and bottom).
- the x-axis acceleration sensor or the z-axis acceleration sensor can be used to determine whether the tooth surface is a cheek or lingual side or a meshing surface. Is also possible.
- the operation mode for example, when brushing the “buccal or lingual tooth surface”, the brush driving speed is slowed so as not to give irritation to the gingiva, and when brushing the “meshing surface”
- the control such as increasing the driving speed of can be exemplified.
- the ninth embodiment is a method for estimating the brushing part and the brush angle, which are posture information, by mutually complementing the output of the acceleration sensor and the output of the gyroscope.
- the outputs of the acceleration sensor and the gyroscope are taken every clock.
- the posture at the time of turning on the power may be set to the reference position, or a mechanism for allowing the user to input the reference position (the position to start polishing) (for example, holding the toothbrush body horizontally)
- a switch may be provided in a state where the brush is applied to the front cheek side of the upper jaw).
- the processing of the CPU will be described along the flowchart.
- the CPU first acquires the outputs of the acceleration sensor and the gyroscope (S3200), and separates the output of the acceleration sensor into a static acceleration component and a dynamic acceleration component using a bandpass filter (S3201). Then, processing is varied as follows according to the presence / absence of the dynamic acceleration component (S3202) and the presence / absence of the gyroscope output (S3203, S3204). “With dynamic acceleration component” means that the absolute value of the dynamic acceleration component is larger than a predetermined threshold value, and “With gyroscope output” means that the absolute value of the gyroscope output is a predetermined threshold value. Is bigger than that.
- the CPU updates the posture information using only the output of the gyroscope.
- a significant change in the output of the gyroscope appears only in the rotation around the axis that coincides with the direction of gravity acceleration.
- the brush position can be determined.
- the brushing part at the time is obtained (S3207).
- the brushing part can be estimated. It is also preferable to improve the estimation accuracy by estimating the brushing part from the static acceleration component of the acceleration sensor and collating the estimation result from the static acceleration component with the estimation result from the dynamic acceleration component.
- the CPU uses the static acceleration component of the acceleration sensor to set the brushing part to “upper front cheek side”, “upper jaw” ⁇ Front tongue side '', ⁇ maxillary occlusal surface '', ⁇ maxillary right buccal side or maxillary left lingual side '', ⁇ maxillary left buccal side or maxillary right lingual side '', ⁇ mandibular front buccal side '', ⁇ mandibular anterior tongue side '', It is specified as one of “mandibular meshing surface”, “mandibular right buccal side or mandibular left lingual side”, and “mandibular left cheek side or mandibular right lingual side”.
- the CPU evaluates the amount of movement of the brush by comparing the amount of movement (movement distance) of the brush per unit time calculated from the dynamic acceleration component with a predetermined threshold value. If the amount of movement exceeds the threshold, the CPU determines that there is a change in the brushing part before and after the movement, and otherwise determines that there is no change in the brushing part.
- the angle is calculated by adding the angle change amount around the y axis obtained from the output of the gyroscope to the brush angle one clock ago, and a method for calculating the angle from the static acceleration component of the acceleration sensor.
- the former method has an advantage that the absolute angle of the brush can be calculated.
- the latter method has an advantage that the angle change amount around the y-axis can be directly calculated, but has a disadvantage that an accumulated error occurs because only the relative angle can be calculated.
- the level of the toothbrush body is evaluated using the absolute value
- the CPU monitors the value of
- the brush angle is calculated as 30 degrees.
- the brush angle is calculated based on the output of the acceleration sensor (S3208).
- the absolute values of the static acceleration components of the x-direction acceleration sensor and the z-direction acceleration sensor generally take the following values.
- the brush angle can be calculated by evaluating
- the brush angle is calculated as 30 degrees from the output of the acceleration sensor, the reference angle of the gyroscope is calibrated to 30 degrees using the value. Thereby, the error due to cumulative addition can be reduced as much as possible.
- the level of the toothbrush body is evaluated using the value of
- the brushing part and the brush angle can be calculated with higher accuracy by mutual complementation of the output of the acceleration sensor and the output of the gyroscope.
- the operation mode can be switched by switching the motion frequency in accordance with the brushing part or switching between the reciprocating motion and the linear reciprocating motion.
- the present invention can also be preferably applied to an electric toothbrush that has an ultrasonic vibration element in the brush portion and performs brushing with both vibration and ultrasonic waves of the brush.
- the position of the brush using azimuth information obtained from a magnetic sensor or the like.
- a bandpass filter such as a high-pass filter can be used to extract the dynamic acceleration component from the acceleration sensor output.
- the posture of the brush changes by 180 degrees depending on whether the left or right hand holds the toothbrush body, so the user can register the dominant hand (the hand holding the toothbrush) and brushing according to the registered dominant hand
- the part determination algorithm may be changed, or the operation mode (motor rotation direction, brush movement) may be changed.
- the toothbrush body It is advisable to provide the toothbrush body with an uneven shape for guiding (or defining) the gripping position. For example, if there is a protrusion or dent on the tip of the toothbrush body (the position where the thumb or index finger touches the joint or joint when the user grips the toothbrush body), the user consciously or unconsciously protrudes or dents the finger. Hold a toothbrush to match. By utilizing this, the user can be guided to a predetermined holding state. Typically, when the direction of the brush (minus direction of the z-axis) is 0 degree at an angle around the y-axis in FIG. Two recesses (or protrusions) may be provided at a position of about 135 degrees. If a toothbrush is gripped by aligning a finger with the unevenness, the brush angle is easily maintained at 45 degrees.
- the configuration using the temperature sensor, the camera, and the optical sensor for identifying the brushing part is exemplified, but other distance sensors such as an ultrasonic sensor are also used. It is also possible to do.
- a distance sensor is installed on the back surface of the brush. When brushing on the cheek side, the distance sensor is close to or in contact with the cheek, so the measured value of the distance sensor is a very small value.
- the distance sensor faces the inside of the oral cavity, so that the measured value of the distance sensor becomes relatively large. Therefore, by comparing the measured value of the distance sensor with a threshold value (for example, 5 mm), it is possible to distinguish between the cheek side and the tongue side.
- a threshold value for example, 5 mm

Abstract
