Abstract

 この発明は、燃料の性状に応じて適切な温度で改質制御を実行し、改質制御の効率やエミッションを向上させることを目的とする。 内燃機関10には、排気ガスの熱を利用して改質燃料から可燃ガスを生成する燃料改質触媒28を設ける。改質制御では、燃料改質触媒28の作用によって生成された可燃ガスを吸気系に還流させる。ECU50は、改質制御を行う下限温度Toを、改質燃料中のガソリンとエタノールとの混合比率に応じて可変に設定する。そして、燃料改質触媒28の温度Tが下限温度Toよりも低いときには、改質燃料の噴射を停止する。これにより、改質制御を実行する温度範囲を可能な限り広げつつ、改質制御を常に適切な温度状態で実行することができる。
