- the present invention relates to a motor vehicle seat whose backrest is articulated on the seat, the inclination of the backrest relative to the seat being adjustable and lockable in certain angular ranges, thanks to a special mechanism commonly called "articulation".
- the general principle of the seat joint has been known for a long time, for example by the documents FR 2 599 684 or EP 0 770 514. It is based on meshing, with a ring gear, of three grains angularly spaced apart by 120 °, this meshing being disengageable thanks to an axis of the articulation actuated by a handle. In the disengaged position, the grains are closer to the center of the articulation and no longer mesh with the ring gear.
- the adjustable inclination is only useful over a more limited angular range than 120 °, and it is also advisable not to be able to lock the seat outside this angular range, it is known, for example by the document FR 2 659 604, to provide on the toothed crown of the joint non-toothed sectors, where the grains will not be able to mesh. For example, it is known to distribute each sector of 120 ° of the ring gear in a sector actually notched 75 ° and a smooth sector of 45 °.
