Abstract

外部からのエネルギー供給を必要としない自立型のオンサイト改質型燃料電池システムを実現するためには、常温で炭化水素の直接熱供給型改質反応を駆動することが必要である。本発明は、活性金属と酸化数変化の可能な希土類元素を含有する酸化物としてCeO2又はPr6O11の酸化物又はCeとZrの複合酸化物又はCeとZrとYの複合酸化物とし、これを高温で還元性ガスにより活性化処理して酸素欠陥を導入する。この触媒に低温で炭化水素と酸素を含む反応ガスを流通すると、酸素欠陥が酸素と反応し元の酸化物に戻ろうとする。この反応は発熱反応であるため触媒自体が加熱される。このことが駆動力となり、炭化水素の燃焼反応が進行し、触媒層は一層、加熱される。そのため、改質反応が進行し水素が生成する。以上のようにして低温、特に常温であっても水素製造反応を駆動できる。
