Abstract

 表示パネル(4)と、複数の蛍光管を含むバックライト(3)と、バックライト(3)に駆動電圧を供給するインバータ部(2)と、インバータ部(2)の駆動停止を制御し、上記蛍光管の少なくともいずれか1つが点灯していない場合にインバータ部(2)を停止させるインバータ制御部(53)とを備える透過型の表示装置(10)であって、表示装置(10)の駆動モードが、通常モードであるかメンテナンスモードであるかを判定するモード判定部(55)を備え、インバータ制御部(53)は、上記蛍光管の少なくともいずれか1つが点灯していないことにより上記インバータ部を停止させた後に、上記駆動モードが上記メンテナンスモードである旨の信号をモード判定部(55)から受信した場合には、インバータ部(2)を再び駆動させる。これにより、複数の蛍光管により構成されるバックライトを用いた表示装置において、バックライト不点灯時の故障した蛍光管を特定し、保守作業の効率化を図る。
