Abstract

 液晶層を挟持する2枚の基板のそれぞれに設けられた電極により、液晶層に電圧を印加するアクティブマトリクス型の液晶表示装置であって、画素の選択素子(11)が設けられている側の基板に設けられている第1電極(15)は、液晶層に電圧を印加したときに液晶分子がストライプの線方向に配向するように設けられたストライプ状電極パターン(15c)を備えており、第1電極(15)の選択素子(11)側とのコンタクト部(25h)が、信号線(GLi)が割り当てられている第1の領域と膜厚方向に対向する領域に設けられている。これにより、周期的に配列されたストライプ状電極パターンを有する画素電極に、液晶分子の配向の乱れを表示に反映させることなくコンタクトを行うことのできる液晶表示装置を実現する。
