Abstract

 本発明の目的は、炭化ホウ素セラミックスが本来有する極めて優れた機械的特性を損なうことのない緻密質炭化ホウ素セラミックス製品を、原料中への多量の焼成助剤の添加や、特殊な添加物や特殊な処理を必要とすることなく、加圧せずに常圧で焼成して得る経済的な製造技術を提供することである。本発明は、炭化ホウ素の含有量が96質量%以上、アルミニウムの含有量が、0.03質量%以上1.0質量%以下である相対密度が89%以上の緻密質炭化ホウ素セラミックス、及び、炭化ホウ素粉末原料を加圧成形して炭化ホウ素成形体を得た後、該炭化ホウ素成形体を加圧せずに常圧で焼成する際に、炉内に、少なくともアルミニウム及び/又はシリコンを含有してなる、粉末、成形体若しくは焼結体のいずれかを配置した状態で炭化ホウ素成形体を焼成して、相対密度が89%以上の緻密質炭化ホウ素セラミックスを得ることを特徴とする製造方法である。
