Abstract

 本発明は、画像のムラ等の品質劣化を生じさせることなく画素混合を行うことが可能な固体撮像装置を提供することを目的とするものであって、VDr(110)は、垂直CCD(210)がバリア領域で区切られる連続したウェル領域で転送される電荷であるパケットを複数個連続して転送しかつ複数個のパケットの区切りによって電荷転送が停止する待機期間がパケットによる電荷転送が行われる転送期間よりも長くなりかつ待機期間においてはバリア領域として動作する電荷転送段が4段以上の電荷転送段のうちの2段となりかつ隣接する2段の電荷転送段が電荷転送方向にポテンシャルが傾斜したバリア領域及びウェル領域として動作する電荷転送段と、該電荷転送段からみて電荷転送方向の上流側に位置し待機期間において電荷転送方向にポテンシャルが傾斜せず該電荷転送段よりポテンシャルが高いバリア領域として動作する電荷転送段であるように垂直CCD(210)による電荷転送を制御する。
