Abstract

　本発明は、各画素を４色以上の副画素で構成する表示パネルを用いるという前提下、色再現性と輝度とのバランスがとれた表示装置を提供することを目的とする。 　外光検出部（５００）は、外光の強度に応じた電流Ｉａを出力する。切替制御回路（６００）は、電流（Ｉａ）の大きさに基づいて、表示モードを選択するための表示モード選択信号（Ｓ）を出力する。出力選択回路１２０は、第１の表示モード（暗い時）であればＲＧＢ画像信号を入力選択回路（１６０）に与え、第２の表示モード（明るい時）であればＲＧＢ画像信号を階調値変換部（１４０）に与える。第１の表示モードの際には、黒信号生成回路（１３０）で生成されたＷの画像信号が階調信号（ＤＶ）として用いられる。第２の表示モードの際には、階調値変換部（１４０）で階調値決定用テーブル（１５０）を参照することによって生成されたＷの画像信号が階調信号（ＤＶ）として用いられる。
