  • the invention to which this application relates is to a structure which can be moved relatively quickly and efficiently between a storage position and an in use position. • the invention typically allows the structure to be moved to the in use position in front of a doorway leading into the permanent structure or vehicle so as to allow the pre-treatment or preconditioning of persons before allowing them to enter the permanent structure without having to leave the controlled environment which may be created in the temporary structure.
  • the permanent structure can for example be a building or vehicle.
  • the structure can be provided to comprise a series of members, which may be of rigid, relatively movable members or formed by inflatable members and which serve to support sheet material therebetween which form the side walls and roof of the structure when extended.
  • the structure which is disclosed in the applicant's co-pending application is primarily for use as a temporary structure in which specific medical facilities can be provided such as providing a pre-treatment area prior to a person entering the main, permanent, medical facility.
  • the structure is particularly of use as a decontamination unit when extended. This means that, upon a decontamination event occurring, the structure can be moved from a storage to an extended position such that persons who may have been exposed to the contamination, can enter the extended temporary structure which is created, and certain functions may be performed on the persons to decontaminate the which may involve, for example, the person showering, the person's clothes being discarded and disposed of and replaced with sterile clothing, and other decontamination functions . These functions can therefore be performed in the temporary structure prior to the persons entering a permanent medical facility for other medical treatment.
  • the provision of the temporary structure provides an area in which decontamination can take place before the persons enter into the permanent structure and therefore prevent or reduce the contamination of a permanent medical structure in comparison to that which would occur if the persons were to enter the permanent structure directly from the external environment.
  • the persons entering the extended structure formed in accordance with the invention enter at one end of the structure and pass through the various decontamination functions within the extended temporary structure and then depart from the temporary extended structure at the opposing end to pass directly through a doorway into a further medical facility.
  • a problem which has been experienced is that the provision of the structure in the storage condition, which typically still extends to a distance from the external wall, of the further facility can represent a barrier to the normal entry into the further medical facility through the doorway as the structure, in its storage position, surround said doorway. This can therefore be a distinct problem in emergency situations in which the temporary structure is retained in the storage position and where full and unrestricted access through the doorway is required.
  • An aim of the present invention is therefore to provide a temporary structure which can be moved between storage and extended positions with respect to a further facility such as a building or vehicle and which can be moved between the positions in a relatively quick time, but without any restriction of access to the further facility access being caused.
