シンチレータパネノレ 技術分野
[0001] 本発明はシンチレ一タパネルに関し、詳しくは放射線一光変換効率の高いシンチ レータパネルに関する。
背景技術
[0002] X線画像のような放射線画像は、医療現場において病状の診断に広く用いられて いる。近年では、放射線検出器を用いた放射線イメージングシステムが普及して来て いる。このシステムは、放射線検出器による 2次元の放射線による画像データを電気 信号として取得し、この信号を処理することでモニター上へ表示させる。
[0003] シンチレ一タパネルは、基板側から入射した放射線を光に変換する役割を果たす。
1990年代に放射線画像の撮影装置として開発された FPD (Flat Panel Detecto r)は、シンチレ一タパネルと撮像素子を組み合わせた放射線検出器である。このシン チレータの材料としては、沃化セシウム(Csl)がよく用いられる。これは、 Cslが X線か ら可視光への変換率が比較的高ぐ蒸着によって容易に柱状結晶構造を形成できる ため、光ガイド効果により発光光の散乱を抑えることができる(例えば特許文献 1参照 )。
[0004] このような放射線検出器の作製方法としては、撮像素子上に、直接、蒸着型の Csl を形成する方法が一般的であり(例えば特許文献 2、 3参照)、その他に、シンチレ一 タパネルと撮像素子を貼り合せる方法が考えられる (例えば特許文献 4参照)。
[0005] しかしながら、何れの場合においても、シンチレータによって変換された光信号を効 率的に伝搬する蛍光体層の設計は、現在までに為されていない。

発明の開示 発明が解決しょうとする課題
[0006] 本発明の目的は、変換された光信号を効率的に伝搬するシンチレ一タパネルを提 供することにある。このシンチレ一タパネルは、放射線一光変換効率の高い FPDを 実現するのに好適である。
課題を解決するための手段
[0007] 上記目的は以下の構成により達成される。
1.基板上に形成された蛍光体層が柱状結晶の沃化セシウムであるシンチレ一タパ ネルにおいて、該柱状結晶の先端角度が 40〜80度であることを特徴とするシンチレ 一タパネル。
2.前記蛍光体層が気相堆積法によって作製されたことを特徴とする前記 1.に記載 のシンチレータパネノレ。
3.前記気相堆積法は蒸着法であることを特徴とする前記 2.に記載のシンチレータ パネル。
発明の効果
[0008] 本発明のシンチレ一タパネルによれば、変換された光信号を効率的に伝搬すること ができ、放射線一光変換効率の高い FPDの実現が可能となる。

[0010] 1 抵抗加熱坩堝 発明を実施するための最良の形態
[0011] 以下、本発明をより具体的に説明する。
[0012] 図 1 (a)、図 1 (b)、図 1 (c)、図 1 (d)は、様々な先端角度を有する柱状結晶の Cslを 示す模式図である。 Csl下側から X線が照射されると、これにより発光した光は、 Csl のライトガイド効果によって効率的に Csl結晶の先端側へ伝搬される。結晶先端に到 達した光は結晶の外へ取り出されるが、例えば結晶の先端角度が 30° 、 90° 、 150 ° (何れも本発明の範囲外)の場合、結晶先端に到達した光の向きによって結晶内 で全反射を起こし、この結果、結晶先端より取り出す光の量は減少する。このように柱 状結晶先端角度を制御することで、光の取出し効率は大きく変化する。
[0013] この結晶先端角度は 2次電子走査顕微鏡で観察して測定できる。
[0014] Cslを気相成長(気相堆積法)させ、柱状結晶に成長させる方法としては、蒸着法、 スパッタ法及び CVD法などが用いられる力 中でも蒸着法が好ましい。
[0015] 蒸着法は支持体を蒸着装置内に設置した後、装置内を排気して 1. O X 10— 4Pa程 度の真空とし、次いで、蛍光体素材の少なくとも一つを抵抗加熱法、エレクトロンビー ム法などの方法で加熱蒸発させて支持体表面に蛍光体を所望の厚みに斜め堆積さ せる。この結果、結着剤を含有しない蛍光体層が形成されるが、前記蒸着工程では 複数回に分けて蛍光体層を形成することも可能である。又、前記蒸着工程では、複 数の抵抗加熱器あるいはエレクトロンビームを用いて蒸着を行うことも可能である。又 、蒸着法においては、蛍光体原料を複数の抵抗加熱器あるいはエレクトロンビームを 用いて蒸着し、支持体上で目的とする蛍光体を合成すると同時に蛍光体層を形成す ることも可能である。更に蒸着法においては、蒸着時に必要に応じて被蒸着物を冷 却あるいは加熱してもよい。蒸着終了後、蛍光体層を加熱処理してもよい。
[0016] 図 2に Csl蒸着装置の一例の断面図を示す。 Cslを抵抗加熱坩堝 1に充填し、基板
2を回転する支持体 3に設置して、支持体と抵抗加熱坩堝との間隔 dを調節する。続 いて蒸着装置内をポンプ Pで排気した後、不活性ガスを導入して真空度を調整する 。次いで、支持体 3を回転しながら、支持体の温度を調整する。その後、抵抗加熱坩 堝 1を加熱して Csl蒸気流 4を基板 2上に蒸着せしめ(蛍光体層)、この蛍光体層が所 望の膜厚となったところで蒸着を終了させる。 [0017] 坩堝は Mo製が好ましぐ基板としてはポリイミド樹脂などが好ましい。支持体として はアルミニウム薄板などが好ましぐその加熱温度は常温〜 350°Cが適用できるが、 100〜250°C力 S好ましい。真空度としては 0. 001〜; !OPaが適当であり、アルゴンや 窒素等の不活性ガスの導入により調整する。
実施例
[0018] 以下、実施例により本発明を説明するが、本発明の態様はこれに限定されない。
[0019] 図 2の蒸着装置を用い、 10cm角で厚さが 0. 2mmのポリイミド基板上に、以下の手 順で Csl蛍光体層を蒸着した。
[0020] 支持体として lmm厚の A1板を用い、支持体と抵抗加熱 Mo坩堝との間隔を 40cm に調整した。蒸着装置内をポンプ Pで排気した後、 Arガスを導入して真空度を 0. 5P aに調整した。次いで、支持体を lOrpmの速度で回転しながら、支持体の温度を常 温〜 350°Cの各条件に保持した各試料を作製した。その後、抵抗加熱坩堝を加熱し て蛍光体(Csl)を蒸着し、蛍光体層が 500 mとなったところで蒸着を終了させた。
[0021] ポリイミド基板上に蒸着された蛍光体層(柱状結晶の Csl)を、ガラス基板上に格子 状に設けられたフォトダイオード (光電変換素子)表面に貼り付け、シンチレータパネ ルを得た。
[0022] この様にして得られたシンチレ一タパネルについて、 X線(管電圧 80ekVp)を照射 した際に発光した光強度を測定して、最も高い発光光強度のサンプルとの比を放射 線-光変換効率として算出した。その後、 2次電子走査顕微鏡 (HITACHI社製 S— 800,倍率 2, 000倍)を用いて蛍光体層の Csl柱状結晶の先端角度を観察した。
[0023] 放射線一光変換効率 (%)と Csl柱状結晶先端角度 (° )との関係を図 3に示す。
[0024] 常温から 350°Cに支持体の温度を制御して、蛍光体層を作製した結果、蒸着時の 支持体温度が 150°Cの時に放射線一光変換効率が最も高ぐこの時の柱状結晶先 端角度は 60° であった。又、 Csl柱状結晶の先端角度が 40〜80° の時に放射線 一光変換効率は 80%以上と大きぐ又 50〜75° の時に放射線一光変換効率は 90 %以上と更に大きぐ放射線一光変換効率の高いことが確認された。

請求の範囲
[1] 基板上に形成された蛍光体層が柱状結晶の沃化セシウムであるシンチレ一タパネル において、該柱状結晶の先端角度が 40〜80度であることを特徴とするシンチレータ パネル。
[2] 前記蛍光体層が気相堆積法によって作製されたことを特徴とする請求の範囲第 1項 に記載のシンチレ一タパネル。
[3] 前記気相堆積法は蒸着法であることを特徴とする請求の範囲第 2項に記載のシンチ レータパネル。
