発明を実施するための最良の形態
[0040] 図 1に示すように本実施形態に係るインクジェット記録装置 1は、記録装置本体 2と 、記録装置本体 2を支持する支持台 3とを備えている。記録装置本体 2の内部には棒 状のガイドレール 4が設けられており、このガイドレール 4には、キャリッジ 5が支持さ れている。
キャリッジ 5は、キャリッジ駆動機構 6 (図 5参照)によってガイドレール 4に沿って記録 媒体の幅方向である走査方向に往復移動するようになっている。なお、本実施形態 のインクジェット記録装置 1はシリアル式である力 S、本発明のインクジェット記録装置は ライン式であってもよい。

[0075] このように本実施形態のインクジェット記録装置 1によれば、複数の UV— LED10 のうちノズル列方向と直交する方向に配列された UV— LED10が電気的に直列接 続されて LEDブロック 11を構成することから、各 LEDブロック 11の光出力を制御す ることにより、光出力の強度補正をノズル列方向に行うことが可能となる。これにより、 装置構成を複雑化することなぐ照射装置 9の全体の光量分布を最適化することが可 能となる。また、 LEDブロック 11ごとに光出力を制御することから、多数の UV— LED 10を備えた照射装置でも、個々の UV—LED10の光出力を制御する場合と比較し て、制御処理を複雑化させることなぐ照射装置 9の全体の光量分布を最適化するこ とが可能となる。
[0076] また、 LEDブロック 11の積算光出力値、すなわちノズル列方向と直交する方向の UV— LED10の積算光出力値が均一となるように制御することにより、照射装置のノ ズル列方向の光出力を均一化することが可能となる。
また、シリアル式のインクジェット記録装置 1では、画像記録の開始時に、記録媒体が 相対的に搬送される方向の上流部に位置するノズル 8のみにインクを吐出させるため 、画像記録位置に対応する LEDブロック 11のみを点灯させることにより、消費電力な どを低減することが可能となる。
[0077] また、シリアル式のインクジェット記録装置 1では、画像記録の終了前に、記録媒体 が相対的に搬送される方向の下流部に位置するノズル 8のみにインクを吐出させるた め、画像記録位置に対応する LEDブロック 11のみを点灯させることにより、消費電力 などを低減することが可能となる。
また、シリアル式のインクジェット記録装置 1では、記録媒体が相対的に搬送される方 向の下流側に位置するノズル 8からインクが吐出される記録領域にっ ヽては、ノズル 8からインクが吐出された後、照射装置 9によって再び光が照射されることなく記録媒 体が搬送されることから、照射装置 9から照射される光の光量が不足する。そこで、こ のノズル 8から吐出されたインクに光を照射する LEDブロック 11の光出力を相対的に 高くすることにより、照射光量の不足を補うことが可能となる。
なお、本実施形態のインクジェット記録装置 1はシリアル式であるが、本発明はライン 式のインクジェット記録装置に適用することも可能である。
[0078] 例えば、図 9に示すように、記録媒体の幅方向に沿って複数のノズル(図示略)を直 線状に配列したノズル列が形成された記録ヘッド 20を備え、記録ヘッド 20は固定さ れたまま、記録媒体の搬送に伴って記録を行うライン式のインクジェット記録装置に 適用することが可能である。
[0079] この場合、照射装置 21では、記録ヘッド 7のノズル列方向と直交する方向、すなわ ち記録媒体の搬送方向に配列された UV— LED (図示略)を電気的に直列接続する ことにより、 LEDブロック(図示略)を構成する。また、各 LEDブロック(図示略)は制 御部(図示略)に電気的に接続する。
[0080] この構成により、制御部(図示略)は、照射装置 21のうち記録媒体の幅方向の画像 記録部分に対応する LEDブロック(図示略)のみを点灯させることが可能である。す なわち、記録媒体の幅方向全体に渡って画像を記録しない場合は、画像記録部分 に対応する LEDブロック(図示略)のみを点灯することにより、消費電力などを低減す ることが可能となる。
[0081] 以上詳細に説明したように、本発明のインクジェット記録装置によれば、光硬化方 式のインクジェット記録装置において、簡易な装置構成により、複数の光源を備えた 照射装置全体の光量分布を最適化することが可能となる。

Claims

請求の範囲
[1] 光硬化性インクを吐出し記録媒体に着弾させる複数のノズルを直線状に配列したノ ズル列を形成してなる記録ヘッドと、
前記記録ヘッドと前記記録媒体とは相対的に走査する関係にあり、
前記記録ヘッドに対して前記記録媒体の走査方向の下流側に配置され、前記記録 媒体に着弾した前記光硬化性インクに光を照射して前記光硬化性インクを硬化させ る照射装置と、
を備えた光硬化方式のインクジェット記録装置であって、
前記照射装置は複数の光源を備え、複数の前記光源のうち前記ノズル列の方向と 直交する方向に配列された複数の光源が電気的に直列接続されることにより複数個 の光源ブロックを構成し、
複数個の前記光源ブロックごとに光出力を制御する制御部が設けられていることを 特徴とするインクジェット記録装置。
[2] 前記制御部は、複数個の前記光源ブロックのそれぞれの光源ブロックの積算光出 力値が均一となるように制御することを特徴とする請求の範囲第 1項に記載のインク ジ ット記録装置。
[3] 複数の前記光源は、紫外光を発する UV— LEDであることを特徴とする請求の範囲 第 1項または第 2項に記載のインクジェット記録装置。
[4] 前記インクジェット記録装置はシリアル式のインクジェット記録装置であり、複数個の 前記光源ブロックを構成する複数の前記光源は前記記録媒体が相対的に搬送され る方向と直交する方向に電気的に直列接続されていることを特徴とする請求の範囲 第 1項乃至第 3項の何れか一項に記載のインクジェット記録装置。
[5] 前記制御部は、画像記録の開始時に、前記記録ヘッドのうち前記記録媒体が相対 的に搬送される方向の上流部に位置する前記ノズルのみが前記光硬化性インクを吐 出する場合は、前記照射装置のうち前記記録媒体が相対的に搬送される方向の上 流部に位置する前記光源ブロックのみを点灯させることを特徴とする請求の範囲第 4 項に記載のインクジェット記録装置。
[6] 前記制御部は、画像記録の終了前に、前記記録ヘッドのうち前記記録媒体が相対 的に搬送される方向の下流部に位置する前記ノズルのみが前記光硬化性インクを吐 出する場合は、前記照射装置のうち前記記録媒体が相対的に搬送される方向の下 流部に位置する前記光源ブロックのみを点灯させることを特徴とする請求の範囲第 4 項または第 5項に記載のインクジェット記録装置。
[7] 前記照射装置は前記記録媒体が相対的に搬送される方向の下流側が前記記録へ ッドより長く延在するように構成されており、前記制御部は前記照射装置のうち前記 記録ヘッドより長く延在する部分に位置する前記光源ブロックの光出力が他の前記 光源ブロックと比較して相対的に高くなるように制御することを特徴とする請求の範囲 第 4項乃至第 6項の何れか一項に記載のインクジェット記録装置。
[8] 前記インクジェット記録装置はライン式のインクジェット記録装置であり、複数個の前 記光源ブロックを構成する複数の前記光源は前記記録媒体の搬送方向に電気的に 直列接続されていることを特徴とする請求の範囲第 1項乃至第 3項の何れか一項に 記載のインクジェット記録装置。
[9] 前記制御部は前記照射装置のうち前記記録媒体の幅方向の画像記録部分に対応 する前記光源ブロックの前記光源のみを点灯させることを特徴とする請求の範囲第 8 項に記載のインクジェット記録装置。
