Definitions

  • the present invention relates to a process for the aftertreatment of a molded article produced in an injection mold.
  • Injection molding is one of the most important processes for the production of molded parts.
  • the molding compound which generally is originally present as powder or granulate, is heated, plasticized and forced under high pressure (several 100 bar) into a corresponding molding tool. The molding compound solidifies in the mold and is then removed from the opened tool.
  • commercial PET bottles are generally made by stretch blow molding a hollow body preform or hollow preform.
  • the hollow body preform is produced in a first step by means of injection molding.
  • the stretch blow molding subsequent to the injection molding operation can be carried out either immediately after production of the hollow body preform or at a later time.
  • the preform is generally transferred to a so-called receiving plate, which consists of a group of receiving cavities. So it is, for example, in the so-called vertical tools, ie those injection molds that open by a vertical movement of a tool part relative to the other, usual, the tool shape already after z. B.
  • a gripper unit is retracted into the opened injection mold to grip the preforms and transfer them into the receiving cavities.
  • the preform for cooling in the receiving cavity of the prior art must remain a relatively long time, so that usually already the next preform can be removed from the injection mold before the preform is cooled in the receiving cavity so far that he without the risk damage can be taken, it is already common to use receiving plates having a plurality of groups of receiving cavities, each group having as many receiving cavities, as the injection mold preforms per injection cycle provides. The individual receiving cavities are then successively populated with preforms, so that the individual preform can remain longer than one injection cycle in the receiving cavity.
  • the stated object is achieved by a method for the aftertreatment of a molded article produced in an injection mold, in which the shaping from the injection mold is transferred to a receiving element, wherein the shaping is held at least temporarily essentially without contact by the receiving element.
  • the receiving element may be a receiving cavity having an open and a closed end, the inner shape substantially corresponding to the outer shape of the molding, wherein the molding is at least temporarily held in the receiving cavity such that the molding does not completely penetrate into the receiving cavity, so that a large part of the outer surface of the molding does not touch the inner surface of the receiving cavity.
  • the preform By not contacting the outer surface of the molding with the receiving cavity, the preform can be transferred in a state where the surfaces of the preform are still relatively soft. In this condition, contact between the preform and the receiving cavity could result in irreversible damage to the preform.
  • a fluid preferably by means of a gaseous fluid, which is introduced through an opening preferably in the vicinity of the closed end of the receiving cavity in this, prevented from coming into contact with the inner surface of the receiving cavity.
  • compressed air is introduced at the lower end of the receiving cavity, which prevents the molding from completely penetrating the receiving cavity, since it then closes the receiving cavity due to the substantial conformity of the outer shape of the molding with the inner shape of the receiving cavity would.
  • the pressure generated by the introduced compressed air would immediately raise the shaping again a little bit from the receiving capacity. It thus forms between receiving cavity on the one hand and shaping on the other hand, an air layer, which could also be referred to as air cushion.
  • the shaping therefore floats above the receiving cavity and is held substantially solely by the air cushion.
  • any direct contact is not desired. Nevertheless, during the transfer of the molded article from the tool into the receiving cavity or even during the aftertreatment of the molded article in the receiving cavity, there may be brief contact between the molded article and the receiving cavity. Although this is not desirable in principle, they still do not question the method according to the invention, since they only take place for a short time and, since the air cushion acts as a buffer, only with little force. In principle, the compressed air introduced through the opening into the receiving cavity, which flows along the outer surface of the molding, prevents complete penetration of the molding into the receiving cavity.
  • the receiving cavity has a feed opening for the corresponding fluid.
  • the aftertreatment is particularly advantageous when a plurality of openings through which the fluid is supplied, are present.
  • an aftertreatment pin the outer surface of which at least partially coincides approximately with the inner shape of a cavity within the molding, is moved into the molding cavity.
  • This post-treatment pen is intended for the post-treatment of the inner surface of the molding.
  • a fluid preferably a gaseous fluid
  • the molding cavity can be cooled.
  • fluid is introduced into the mold cavity during the movement of the aftertreatment post into the mold cavity, so that the molding is introduced by the outflowing fluid and substantially - -
  • the fluid is introduced through a plurality of openings, preferably via a porous element in the post-treatment pen in the molding.
  • the entire post-treatment pen may be made of a porous material.
  • the molding is at least partially heated within the receiving cavity. It has been found that the quality of the molded article changes with regard to its physical or mechanical properties as a function of the speed and the uniformity of the cooling process. In order to prevent too rapid cooling of the surfaces of the molding, it may therefore be advantageous if the molding is heated at least in sections on its surface until the interior of the molding material, the so-called soul has also cooled to a certain temperature. In addition, depending on further planned processing steps, it may be advantageous if the shaped article, in particular in the form of a preform, is reheated after cooling, in order, for example, to permit further treatment by stretch blow molding. Furthermore, it may be expedient if the molding is cooled at least in sections within the receiving cavity.
  • the object mentioned at the outset is achieved, in particular, by a method which has the following steps:
  • step b) introducing the preform into a receiving cavity whose inner surface approximately corresponds to the outer surface of the preform, b) introducing a fluid into the receiving cavity via an opening in the vicinity of the closed end of the receiving cavity, c) forming a fluid cushion between preform and receiving cavity, d) holding the preform in suspension without significant direct contact between preform and receiving cavity. It is also possible and, for some applications, to carry out step b) during step a). Thus, it is already possible to prevent contact between the preform on the one hand and the receiving cavity during transfer of the preform from the tool mold into the receiving cavity.
  • an aftertreatment pin is introduced into the preform whose outer contour substantially corresponds to the inner contour of the preform (Steps).
  • the aftertreatment pin retreads the inner contour of the preform, i. either reshaped or postcooled or possibly even heated.
  • the treatment pin has one or more openings at its tip and / or at its side surfaces and fluid flows out of the one or more openings of the aftertreatment pin when the aftertreatment pin is immersed in the preform. It is particularly expedient if a fluid cushion is also formed between the outer surface of the aftertreatment pin and the inner surface, so that the preform is pressed into the receiving cavity substantially solely via the fluid cushion without significant direct contact between preform and aftertreatment pin (step f).
  • the surface of the preform can still be so soft in this process that through the
  • Fluid pad it comes to a surface smoothing. This is particularly advantageous in the lower region of the preform, that is to say on the outer side of its closed end, since unevenness in the preform is frequently present here due to the injection point or the gate. By the fluid cushion and this unevenness can be eliminated, so that the injection point in the finished inflated bottle is virtually unrecognizable.
  • the aftertreatment pin is finally moved into the receiving cavity so far that the outer preform wall comes into contact with the inner wall of the receiving cavity (step g). At that moment, the preform gets its final shape. It is possible in this case that the inner wall of the preform comes into contact with the outer surface of the post-treatment pin. However, this is not essential. The best results were obtained in tests when only contact between preform and receiving cavity but not between preform and aftertreatment pen.
  • the molding step i. the moment in which the aftertreatment document is completely inserted into the receiving cavity, lasting less than 2 seconds, preferably less than 1 second, more preferably less than 500 milliseconds. Then the preform has its final shape and the aftertreatment pin is now moved out of the receiving cavity again.
  • the preform can now either be removed from the receiving cavity or it can be transferred back into the "floating" state already described above, in which a controlled cooling of the preform is effected due to the fluid.Of course, it is also possible that the preform remains in contact with the receiving cavity on its outside.

  • the warmer portion could be located closer to the neck portion of the preform than the colder portion. Abstract
