Definitions

  • the invention relates to devices, system and methods for washing away powdered material. More specifically the invention relates to devices,' systems and methods where water is used for washing.
  • powdered material is transported by means of conveyor belts.
  • industrial plants are found in the mining- and metals industry such as ore dressing plants, ore concentrating works, palletizing plants as well as loading arrangement for vehicles, trains and ships.
  • Other examples of industrial plants where powdered material is transported are plants where grain and flour are handled.
  • Other examples of such plants are building material industry, such as a cement plant, and in chemical process industry.
  • powdered material is crushed mineral, dressed ore, powdered binding agents, raw material in chemical process industry, crushed coal and grain.
  • a problem is that spillage or drop of powdered material frequently occurs at industrial plants. Spillage must be removed in order to avoid disturbances in production. Disturbances in production may occur if the spilled material starts to build a pile to such height that it reaches up to the conveyor belt, the spilled material may also cause problems for professionals or vehicles, such as trucks, to pass the area with spilled material.
  • the scraper reduces the amount of material that is stuck to the belt and reduces the amount of spilled material under the conveyor belt as stuck material gradually falls off.
  • a known problem is that such scrapers are not entirely reliable as they are worn out. Because of the mentioned reasons spilled material occurs beneath the conveyor belt, especially at the end where the belt turns. It is necessary to remove the spilled material in order to avoid disturbances in production, which is costly for the owners of the industrial plant. Disturbances in production may correspond to lost production of a value of hundred thousand Euros per hour. Due to this the conveyor belts are checked by personal that removes spilled material. A commonly used method is to place water hoses at appropriate positions or by hand direct a water hose such that the flow of water is directed towards the spilled tnaterial.
  • a problem with such methods is that water splashes up towards the conveyor belt which may cause the belt to slip.
  • Arrangements may comprise devices such as pipes from where water is sprayed towards a wash water through or similar.

  • Alternative terms for a nozzle are a hole or spray opening. These types of pipe based devices may comprise a number of drilled openings where in front of each hole a nozzle is mounted which diverge the water. In order to get an enough concentrated water jet which efficiently diverge at the outer nozzle a size of openings of 3-4 mm is suitable. But with such a size of the holes they clog after some time. This depends on that the process water contains a relative large amount of particles.
  • An object of the invention is to overcome the above mentioned problems and similar problems to avoid disturbances in production at an industrial plant where powdered material is spilled.
  • An aim of the invention is to provide a device for washing away spilled material in a more efficient way than previous known devices .
  • Other aim are to provide a device which spreads an even flow of water over a relative large area, can be used for a variety of application and is more reliable than previous known devices.
  • Such a device is essentially oblong and comprises a number of nozzles, where the nozzles are positioned along the oblong device.

  • the device comprises an inner long side at which water from the nozzles are intended to reflect.
  • Another advantage of the invention is that it provides an even flow of water along its full length.
  • An advantage compared to previous known devices is that this even flow remains over time, due to that the nozzles do not clog even when process water containing particles of different sizes is used.
  • the device may be used in a variety of applications. It may be attached at a position where spilled material occurs, for instance at a stand underneath a conveyor belt, it may also be positioned on a floor where there is a pile of spilled material.
  • Another advantage with the invention is that it provides a more efficient washing effect than previous known devices on crushed mineral, such as dressed ore, which has a relative high density.
  • the invention further provides that less volume of water per time unit is needed to remove spilled material. This is of particular importance at industrial plants where large amount of water is pressurized with comparatively high amount of energy. At such plants, for instance performing mineral processing, the size of pumps, energy consumption of pumps, and wear of pumps and pipes drives the cost of operation. In such a plant there may be hundreds of positions where spilled material must be washed away and the improved efficiency which is a result of the invention creates a positive effect on costs at investments and operation of the plant.
  • Another advantage with the device is that as it comprise a cover, splash of water in unwanted directions is avoided, such as towards a conveyor belt.
  • the energy of a water jet from a nozzle is diverged into an even flow before it hits the spilled material. This should be compared with the previous known devices where the water jet from an outer nozzle first hits the spilled material or the ground where the spilled material has landed, as that result in a greater risk of water splashing.
  • Splash of water on the underside of the conveyor belt often causes the belt to slip against roles it runs upon which causes an uneven on- and un-loading of the conveyor belt and further increase the risk of disturbances in production.
  • Another object of the invention is to provide a system to wash away spilled material that falls off a conveyor belt where the spilled material may be dressed ore and the water that the system utilizes is process water.
