先ず、図 3を参照して、本実施例に係る誘電体記録再生装置の記録動作について 説明する。ここに、図 3は、情報の記録動作を概念的に示す断面図である。

[0074] 誘電体の非線形誘電率は、誘電体の分極方向に対応して変化する。そして、誘電 体の非線形誘電率は、誘電体に電界を印加した時に、誘電体の容量の違いないし 容量の変化の違いとして検出することができる。従って、誘電体材料に電界を印加し 、そのときの誘電体材料の一定の微小領域における容量 Csの違!、な!/、し容量 Csの 変化の違いを検出することにより、誘電体材料の分極の方向として記録されたデータ を読み取り、再生することが可能となる。
[0075] 具体的にはまず、図 4に示すように、不図示の交流信号発生器 21からの交番電界 が電極 16及びプローブ 11の間に印加される。この交番電界は、誘電体材料 17の抗 電界を越えない程度の電界強度を有し、例えば 100kHz程度の周波数を有する。交 番電界は、主として、誘電体材料 17の分極方向に対応する容量変化の違いの識別 を可能にするために生成される。尚、交番電界に代えて、直流バイアス電圧を印加し て、誘電体材料 17内に電界を形成してもよい。係る交番電界が印加されると誘電体 記録媒体 20の誘電体材料 17内に電界が生ずる。
[0076] 次に、プローブ 11の先端と記録面との距離がナノオーダの極めて小さい距離となる まで、プローブ 11を記録面に接近させる。この状態で発振器 13を駆動する。尚、プロ ーブ 11直下の誘電体材料 17の容量 Csを高精度に検出するためには、プローブ 11 を誘電体材料 17の表面、即ち、記録面に接触させることが好ましい。但し、プローブ 11の先端を記録面に接触させなくとも、例えば実質的には接触と同視できる程度に プローブ 11の先端を記録面に接近させても、再生動作 (更には、上述の記録動作) を行なうことは可能である。

[0079] 付言すると、誘電体材料 17の非線形誘電率に対応する容量 Csの変化は微小であ り、これを検出するためには、高い検出精度を有する検出方法を採用する必要があ る。 FM変調を用いた検出方法は、一般に高い検出精度を得ることができる力 誘電 体材料 17の非線形誘電率に対応する微小な容量変化の検出を可能とするために、 さらに検出精度を高める必要がある。そこで、本実施例に係る誘電体記録再生装置 1 (即ち、 SNDM原理を用いた記録再生装置)は、リターン電極 12をプローブ 11の 近傍に配置し、発振回路の帰還経路をできる限り短くしている。これにより、極めて高 い検出精度を得ることができ、誘電体の非線形誘電率に対応する微小な容量変化を 検出することが可能となる。
[0080] 発振器 13の駆動後、プローブ 11を誘電体記録媒体 20上において記録面と平行な 方向に移動させる。プローブ 11直下の誘電体材料 17のドメインの分極状態は記録さ れた信号に応じて変化しているので、プローブ 11直下の誘電率の非線型成分が変 化する。誘電率の非線形成分が変化すると、交番電界に対する共振周波数、即ち、 発振器 13の発振周波数変化の位相が変化する。この結果、発振器 13は、分極の状 態即ち記録情報に基づいて FM変調された信号を出力する。

[0085] 複数のプローブ 111から 119の夫々は、例えばその先端側から誘電体記録媒体 2 0 (図 2参照)に電界を印加するように、細く尖った先端を有する。このプローブ 111か ら 119の夫々は特に、その製造時においてダイヤモンドにボロン等をドープすること によって、導電性を備えていることが好ましい。また、ダイヤモンドに限らず、例えば 窒化ボロン等の導電性を有する部材を用いることもできる。但し、プローブ 111から 1 19の夫々は、誘電体記録媒体 20に接触しうるため、より硬質の部材を用いて構成さ れることが好ましい。また、プローブ 111から 119の夫々の先端部分は、後述の誘電 体記録媒体 20に記録されるデータに対応して形成される分極の半径を決める大きな 要素である。このため、先端部分の特に誘電体記録媒体 20に直接接触し得る部分 の大きさは、 lOnmオーダーの極めて小さいものであることがより好ましい。
[0086] 信号処理咅 131a力も 131cゝ 132a力も 132c及び 133a力も 133cの夫々は、上述 した発振器 13として (更には、中間周波数変換器 29や復調部 30や信号検出部 34、 更にはそれ以降の信号処理を行なう構成としても)動作する回路を有している。より具 体的には、信号処理部 131aは、プローブ 111直下の誘電体材料 17に係る容量 Cs とインダクタ Lとを構成要因として含む共振回路の共振周波数で発振する発振器 13 を含む。信号処理部 131bは、プローブ 112直下の誘電体材料 17に係る容量 Csとィ ンダクタ Lとを構成要因として含む共振回路の共振周波数で発振する発振器 13を含 む。信号処理部 131cは、プローブ 113直下の誘電体材料 17に係る容量 Csとインダ クタ Lとを構成要因として含む共振回路の共振周波数で発振する発振器 13を含む。 信号処理部 132aは、プローブ 114直下の誘電体材料 17に係る容量 Csとインダクタ Lとを構成要因として含む共振回路の共振周波数で発振する発振器 13を含む。信 号処理部 132bは、プローブ 115直下の誘電体材料 17に係る容量 Csとインダクタ と を構成要因として含む共振回路の共振周波数で発振する発振器 13を含む。信号処 理部 132cは、プローブ 116直下の誘電体材料 17に係る容量 Csとインダクタ Lとを構 成要因として含む共振回路の共振周波数で発振する発振器 13を含む。信号処理部 133aは、プローブ 117直下の誘電体材料 17に係る容量 Csとインダクタ Lとを構成要 因として含む共振回路の共振周波数で発振する発振器 13を含む。信号処理部 133 bは、プローブ 118直下の誘電体材料 17に係る容量 Csとインダクタ Lとを構成要因と して含む共振回路の共振周波数で発振する発振器 13を含む。信号処理部 133cは 、プローブ 119直下の誘電体材料 17に係る容量 Csとインダクタ Lとを構成要因として 含む共振回路の共振周波数で発振する発振器 13を含む。もちろん、発振器 13以外 にも、対応するプローブに係る信号処理を行う中間周波数変換器 29や復調器 30や 信号検出部 34を含んで 、てもよ 、。

[0088] ここで特に、信号処理部 131aから 131cの集合と、信号処理部 132aから 132cの 集合と、信号処理部 133aから 133cの集合とは、夫々の集合が多層構造を構成する ように配置されている。具体的には、信号処理部 131aから 131cの集合が第 1の層で ある第 1回路 201上に配置され、信号処理部 132aから 132cの集合が第 2の層であ る第 2回路 202上に配置され、信号処理部 133aから 133cの集合が第 3の層である 第 3回路 203上に配置されている。その結果、信号処理部 131aから 131cの夫々が 第 1回路 201上で占有する領域の大きさ力 複数のプローブ 111から 119の配置間 隔よりも大きくなるように、信号処理部 131aから 131cの夫々が第 1回路 201上に配 置されている。言い換えれば、第 1回路 201上における信号処理部 131aから 131c の数(3個)が、第 1回路 201上におけるプローブ 111から 119の数(9個)よりも少なく なるように、信号処理部 131aから 131cの夫々が第 1回路 201上に配置されている。 更に言い換えれば、信号処理部 131aから 131cの夫々が第 1回路 201上で占有す る領域の大きさ力 複数のプローブ 111から 119の夫々が第 1回路 201上で占有す る領域の大きさよりも大きくなるように、信号処理部 131aから 131cの夫々が第 1回路 201上に配置されている。即ち、図 5に示すように、信号処理部 131aから 131cの夫 々が第 1回路 201上で占有する領域の大きさが第 1回路 201の概ね 1Z3である一方 、複数のプローブ 111から 119の夫々が第 1回路 201上で占有する領域の大きさは 第 1回路 201の概ね 1Z9である。また、信号処理部 132aから 132c及び信号処理部 133aから 133cについても同様のことが言えることは言うまでもない。
[0089] そして、同一の層上に配置されないプローブと信号処理部とは、導電性を有する接 続線により電気的に接続される。具体的には、プローブ 114と信号処理部 132aとは 、接続線 144により電気的に接続され、プローブ 115と信号処理部 132bとは、接続 線 145により電気的に接続され、プローブ 116と信号処理部 132cとは、接続線 146 により電気的に接続され、プローブ 117と信号処理部 133aとは、接続線 147により電 気的に接続され、プローブ 118と信号処理部 133aとは、接続線 148により電気的に 接続され、プローブ 119と信号処理部 133aとは、接続線 149により電気的に接続さ れる。このとき、接続線を介した信号の伝送距離が必要以上に長くならないように、プ ローブの直上に(図 5中では直下に)、該プローブの信号を処理する信号処理部が 配置される。また、接続線 147、 148及び 149の夫々が第 2回路 202中を通過する場 合には、第 2回路 202上に形成される貫通部 167から 169を通過する。
[0090] ここで、仮に、信号処理部 131aから 131cの集合と、信号処理部 132aから 132cの 集合と、信号処理部 133aから 133cの集合とが多層構造を構成するように配置され て ヽなければ、、信号処理咅 13 la力ら 13 lc、 132a力ら 132c及び 133a力ら 133cの 夫々を第 1回路 201上に配置する必要がある。この場合、信号処理部 131 aから 131 c、 132a力ら 132c及び 133a力ら 133cの夫 の大ささ ίま、複数のプ Ρ—ブ 111力ら 119の配置間隔による厳しい制約を受け、第 1回路 201の概ね 1Z9程度の大きさと なる。これでは、比較的大きなスペースを必要とする信号処理部をプローブ 111から 119に付随させて配置することができない。或いは、比較的簡単な処理を行わせる 程度にとどめたり、ある程度のクロストークの発生を許容しなければ、比較的大きなス ペースを必要とする信号処理部をプローブ 111から 119に付随させて配置することが できない。
[0091] しかるに、本実施例によれば、信号処理部 131aから 131c、 132aから 132c及び 1 33aから 133cの夫々の大きさを相対的に大きくすることができる。言い換えれば、複 数のプローブ 111から 119の配置間隔による制約を厳密に受けることなぐ信号処理 咅 131a力ら 131c、 132a力ら 132c及び 133a力ら 133cの夫 を酉己置すること力 Sでさ る。これにより、比較的大きなスペースを必要とする信号処理部をプローブ 111から 1 19に付随させて配置することができる。
[0092] 更に、信号処理部をプローブに付随させて配置することができるため、信号処理回 路 100の外部に発振器 13 (更には、復調器 30や信号検出部 34等)を設ける必要が なくなる。言い換えれば、プローブ 111から 119や発振器 13 (更には、復調器 30や 信号検出部 34等)を共に備えた信号処理回路 100を用いて、上述した再生動作を 行なうことができる。従って、外部への信号の取り出しに起因した浮遊容量の変動や 雑音の発生等による悪影響を抑えることができる。特に、誘電体記録再生装置 1では 、上述したように、誘電体材料 17の非線形誘電率に対応する容量 Csの変化は微小 であり、これを検出するためには、高い検出精度を有する検出方法を採用する必要 がある。係る観点からすると、信号処理部をプローブに付随させて配置すれば、浮遊 容量の変動や雑音の発生等による悪影響を抑えたより安定的な或いはより高精度な 信号処理を行うことができるため、本実施例に係る誘電体記録再生装置 1 (具体的に は、信号処理回路 100)は非常に大きな利点を有していると言える。
[0093] また、信号処理回路 100の外部に信号を出力する場合であっても、プローブ 111か ら 119に付随して配置される信号処理部 131aから 131c、 132aから 132c及び 133a 力も 133cの夫々において信号処理がなされているため、より安定した信号を外部に 出力することができる。
[0094] また、一つのプローブからの信号を、独立した一つの信号として信号処理部におい て処理した後に一つの信号として出力する構成が上述の実施例には記載されている がこれには限定されない。例えば、複数のプローブからの信号を用いて、一つの信 号として出力する構成であってもよい。例えば、三つのプローブを用いて、誘電体記 録媒体 20上で隣接する三つの記録トラックの信号を同時に検出し、隣接トラックから のクロストーク成分を除去した一つの信号を出力するように構成してもよ 、。

続いて、図 5及び図 6を参照して、変形例に係る信号処理装置について説明する。 ここに、図 5は、第 1変形例に係る信号処理回路の基本構成を概念的に示す斜視図 であり、図 6は、第 2変形例に係る信号処理回路の基本構成を概念的に示す斜視図 である。
[0096] 図 5に示すように、第 1変形例に係る信号処理回路 101は、第 1回路 201と第 2回路 202との間に、接地電位を有するシールド層 171が配置されている。また、第 2回路 2 02と第 3回路 203との間に、接地電位を有するシールド層 172が配置されている。
[0097] このように、シールド層 171を配置することで、第 1回路 201上に複数の信号処理部 13 laから 131cを配置することで発生し得る高周波信号の第 2回路 202への飛び込 み、或いは第 2回路 202上に複数の信号処理部 132aから 132cを配置することで発 生し得る高周波信号の第 1回路 201への飛び込みによる雑音の増加を好適に除去 することができる。シールド層 172についても同様に、第 2回路 202上に複数の信号 処理部 132aから 132cを配置することで発生し得る高周波信号の第 3回路 203への 飛び込み、或いは第 3回路 203上に複数の信号処理部 133aから 133cを配置するこ とで発生し得る高周波信号の第 2回路 202への飛び込みによる雑音の増加を好適に 除去することができる。これにより、異なる層間で発生し得る高周波クロストークによる 悪影響の少ない安定的な信号処理を実現することができる。
[0098] また、図 6に示すように、第 2変形例に係る信号処理回路 102は、複数のプローブ 1 11から 119及び複数の初段処理部 181aから 181iを備える初段回路 200と、複数の 信号処理部 13 laから 13 lcを備える第 1回路 201と、複数の信号処理部 132aから 1 32cを備える第 2回路 202と、複数の信号処理部 133aから 133cを備える第 3回路と を備える。
[0099] 初段処理部 181aから 181iの夫々は、例えば上述の発振器 13及び中間周波数変 換回路 29或いは例えば不図示の増幅回路として動作する回路を有している。他方、 信号処理咅 13 la力も 131cゝ 132a力も 132c及び 133a力も 133cの夫々は、上述の 復調部 30や信号検出部 34として (更には、それ以降の信号処理を行う構成としても) 動作する回路を有している。従って、プローブ 111から 119の夫々より誘電体記録媒 体 20に交番電界が印加された場合、初段処理部 181aから 181iにおいて、容量 Cs の変化に基づいて FM変調された信号が出力され、更にその信号が中間周波数に 変換される。中間周波数に変換された信号は、接続線 141から 149を更には適宜貫 通咅 力ら 169を介して信号処理咅 131a力ら 131c、 132a力ら 132c及び 133a から 133cのうち対応する信号処理部へ出力され、上述した復調処理及び信号検出 処理が行われる。その後、該信号処理部において更なる信号処理がなされてもよい し、或いは当該信号処理回路 102の外部に設けられている信号処理回路へ出力さ れた後に信号処理がなされてもよ!/、。
[0100] このように、プローブ 111から 119の数(9個)と同一数の初段処理部 181aから 181 iを、プローブ 111から 119と同一の層に配置するように構成してもよい。このように構 成すれば、接続線 141から 149を介して信号を出力する前に、例えば該信号の周波 数を中間周波数にまで落すことができる。このため、接続線 141から 149を介した信 号の出力の際も、浮遊容量の変化や雑音の発生を好適に抑えることができる。これ により、 SN比の低減を図ることができ、信号処理に係る動作の安定性をより好適に確 保することができる。
[0101] 尚、上述の実施例では、誘電体材料 17を記録層に用いている力 非線形誘電率 や自発分極の有無という観点からは、該誘電体材料 17は、強誘電体であることが好 ましい。
[0102] また、上述した本実施例に係る信号処理回路 100等は、本実施例において説明し た SNDMに係る記録再生装置に限らず、例えば SCaM等の走査型容量性顕微鏡 或いは各種記録再生装置に用いられてもよい。或いは、プローブ 111から 119を光 検出素子に置き換えた信号処理回路であっても、同様の利益を享受することができ る。
[0103] また、本発明は、請求の範囲及び明細書全体力も読み取るこのできる発明の要旨 又は思想に反しない範囲で適宜変更可能であり、そのような変更を伴う信号処理回 路及び再生装置もまた本発明の技術思想に含まれる。
産業上の利用可能性
[0104] 本発明に係る信号処理回路及び再生装置は、例えば、例えば強誘電体記録媒体 等の誘電体に記録された分極情報を再生する際の信号処理を行う信号処理回路、 並びに該信号処理回路を用いた再生装置に利用可能である。

Claims

請求の範囲
[1] 所定の配置間隔を有して配置され且つ夫々が信号の入力を受け付ける複数の信 号入力部を備える信号入力層と、
前記複数の信号入力部の夫々に対応して設けられ且つ前記複数の信号入力部か らの信号を並列処理する複数の信号処理部が分散して配置される複数の信号処理 層と、
前記複数の信号入力部の夫々と前記複数の信号処理部の夫々とを対応付けて接 続する接続線と
を備えており、
前記複数の信号処理層上における前記複数の信号処理部の夫々が占有する領域 の大きさは、前記信号入力層上における前記複数の信号入力部の配置間隔よりも大 ヽことを特徴とする信号処理回路。
[2] 所定の配置間隔を有して配置され且つ夫々が信号の入力を受け付ける複数の信 号入力部を備える信号入力層と、
前記複数の信号入力部に対応して設けられ且つ前記複数の信号入力部力 の信 号を並列処理する複数の信号処理部が、夫々に分散して配置される複数の信号処 理層と、
前記複数の信号入力部の夫々と、前記複数の信号処理部の夫々とを対応付けて 接続する接続線と
を備えており、
前記複数の信号処理層の夫々の上における前記複数の信号処理部の数は、前記 信号入力層上における前記複数の信号入力部の数よりも少ないことを特徴とする信 号処理回路。
[3] 前記複数の信号入力部は、 2次元のマトリクス状に配置されることを特徴とする請求 の範囲第 1項に記載の信号処理回路。
[4] 前記複数の信号入力部は、 2次元のマトリクス状に配置されることを特徴とする請求 の範囲第 2項に記載の信号処理回路。
[5] 前記複数の信号入力部の少なくとも一つは、前記信号の入力を受け付ける対象と なる媒体上の微小領域に近接又は接触する導電性のプローブを含むことを特徴とす る請求の範囲第 1項に記載の信号処理回路。
[6] 前記複数の信号入力部の少なくとも一つは、前記信号の入力を受け付ける対象と なる媒体上の微小領域に近接又は接触する導電性のプローブを含むことを特徴とす る請求の範囲第 2項に記載の信号処理回路。
[7] 前記複数の信号処理部の少なくとも一つは、前記信号の入力を受け付ける対象と なる媒体上の微小領域の静電容量変化を電圧変化に変換処理することを特徴とす る請求の範囲第 1項に記載の信号処理回路。
[8] 前記複数の信号処理部の少なくとも一つは、前記信号の入力を受け付ける対象と なる媒体上の微小領域の静電容量変化を電圧変化に変換処理することを特徴とす る請求の範囲第 2項に記載の信号処理回路。
[9] 前記複数の信号処理部の少なくとも一つは、前記信号の入力を受け付ける対象と なる媒体上の微小領域の静電容量変化に応じて発振周波数が変化する発振回路を 含むことを特徴とする請求の範囲第 1項に記載の信号処理回路。
[10] 前記複数の信号処理部の少なくとも一つは、前記信号の入力を受け付ける対象と なる媒体上の微小領域の静電容量変化に応じて発振周波数が変化する発振回路を 含むことを特徴とする請求の範囲第 2項に記載の信号処理回路。
[11] 前記複数の信号処理部の少なくとも一つは、前記発振周波数を中間周波数に変 換する中間周波数変換回路を更に含むことを特徴とする請求の範囲第 9項に記載の 信号処理回路。
[12] 前記複数の信号処理部の少なくとも一つは、前記発振周波数を中間周波数に変 換する中間周波数変換回路を更に含むことを特徴とする請求の範囲第 10項に記載 の信号処理回路。
[13] 前記複数の信号処理層の夫々の間に、接地電位を規定するシールド層を更に備 えることを特徴とする請求の範囲第 1項に記載の信号処理回路。
[14] 前記複数の信号処理層の夫々の間に、接地電位を規定するシールド層を更に備 えることを特徴とする請求の範囲第 2項に記載の信号処理回路。
[15] 前記複数の信号入力部の夫々に対応して設けられ且つ前記複数の信号入力部か らの信号を初段処理する複数の初段処理部を備える初段処理層を更に備え、 前記接続線は、前記複数の信号入力部の夫々と前記複数の初段処理部の夫々と を対応付けて接続し、且つ前記複数の初段処理部の夫々と前記複数の信号処理部 の夫々とを対応付けて接続することを特徴とする請求の範囲第 1項に記載の信号処 理回路。
[16] 前記複数の信号入力部の夫々に対応して設けられ且つ前記複数の信号入力部か らの信号を初段処理する複数の初段処理部を備える初段処理層を更に備え、 前記接続線は、前記複数の信号入力部の夫々と前記複数の初段処理部の夫々と を対応付けて接続し、且つ前記複数の初段処理部の夫々と前記複数の信号処理部 の夫々とを対応付けて接続することを特徴とする請求の範囲第 2項に記載の信号処 理回路。
[17] 前記複数の初段処理部の少なくとも一つは、前記信号の入力を受け付ける対象と なる媒体上の微小領域の静電容量変化に応じて発振周波数が変化する発振回路を 含むことを特徴とする請求の範囲第 15項に記載の信号処理回路。
[18] 前記複数の初段処理部の少なくとも一つは、前記信号の入力を受け付ける対象と なる媒体上の微小領域の静電容量変化に応じて発振周波数が変化する発振回路を 含むことを特徴とする請求の範囲第 16項に記載の信号処理回路。
[19] 前記複数の初段処理部の少なくとも一つは、前記発振周波数を中間周波数に変 換する中間周波数変換回路を更に含むことを特徴とする請求の範囲第 17項に記載 の信号処理回路。
[20] 前記複数の初段処理部の少なくとも一つは、前記発振周波数を中間周波数に変 換する中間周波数変換回路を更に含むことを特徴とする請求の範囲第 18項に記載 の信号処理回路。
[21] 記録媒体に記録されたデータを再生する再生装置であって、
請求の範囲第 1項に記載の信号処理回路と、
前記複数の信号処理部による処理結果に基づいて、前記データを再生する再生 手段と
を備えることを特徴とする再生装置。
