燃料電池は、 該燃料電池内に残留するアノード側の水素ガスが電解質膜を 透過して力ソード側へ、 また、 力ソード側の空気中の酸素ガスや窒素ガスが 電解質膜を透過してァノード側へ移動する、いわゆるクロスリークが生じる。 例えば特開 2003— 045467号公報には、 燃料電池停止後の電圧変化 に基づいて異常を診断する手法が開示されている。 発明の開示
この特開 2003-045467号公報によれば、異常判定の精度が高く、 しかも判定時間が短縮されるので、 燃料電池の異常を運転停止後早期に検出 することができる。 しかしながら、 異常検出後のクロスリーク対策について は何ら開示がない。 したがって、 電解質膜が劣化して通常範囲を超えるクロ スリークが発生していた場合には、 次の運転時にク口スリークの影響を受け てしまう。
そこで、 本発明は、 異常検出後のクロスリーク量を抑制することのできる 燃料電池の異常検出装置、 運転装置及び運転方法の提供を目的とする。
上記の課題を解決するため、 本発明に係る燃料電池の異常検出装置は、 膜
一電極接合体 :のアノード側に燃料ガス、 カソード側に酸化ガスが供給されて 発電する燃料電池の異常を検出する装置であって、 燃料電池の異常を運転停 止後の電圧変化より検出する異常検出手段と、 異常検出後の燃料電池への酸 化ガス供給状態を変更する状態変更手段とを備える。
かかる構成において、 前記状態変更手段は、 前記電圧変化に応じて酸化ガ ス供給状態を変更してもよく、 さらに、 運転停止後の電圧低下が大きいほど カソード側の背圧設定値を増加させてもよい。
また、 本発明に係る燃料電池システムの運転方法は、 膜一電極接合体のァ ノード側に燃料ガス、 カソード側に酸化ガスが供給されて発電する燃料電池 の運転方法であって、 燃料電池の異常を運転停止後の電圧変化より検出する 異常検出工程と、 燃料電池の異常を検出した場合に、 酸化ガス供給状態の設 定を変更する設定変更工程とを備える。
かかる構成において、 前記設定変更工程では、 運転停止後の電圧低下が大 きいほどカソード側へのガス供給圧を高めてもよい。
燃料電池への燃料ガス及び酸化ガス (以下、 これらを総称して 「反応ガス」 ということがある。) の供給停止後、膜一電極接合体の膜が劣化していてその ァノード側とカソード側との間を反応ガスがクロスリークしている場合、 燃 料電池の発電電圧は時間経過に伴い低下する。 したがって、 上記燃料電池の 異常検知装置および燃料電池の運転方法によれば、 運転停止後の電圧変化に 基づいて、 通常範囲を超えるクロスリークを異常として検出することが可能 である。
しかも、 燃料電池の異常を検出した場合には、 力ソード側への酸化ガス供 給状態、 例えば力ソード入口側の供給圧あるいは力ソード出口側の背圧を高 めることにより、 燃料電池の力ソード側圧力を通常運転時は該カソード側圧 力よりも高めに設定されているアノード側圧力に近づけることが可能となり、 ァノード側からカソ一ド側への燃料ガスのクロスリークが抑制される。
また、 膜一電極接合体の膜が劣化しているほど運転停止後の電圧低下も大 きくなるので、 かかる電圧低下が大きいほど、 力ソード出口側の背圧設定値 を高めることにより、 膜劣化の進行に伴い増大するアノード側からカソード 側への燃料ガスのクロスリークをより一層効果的に抑制することが可能とな る。 !
本発明に係る燃料電池の運転装置は、 膜一電極接合体のアノード側に燃料 ガス、 カソード側に酸化ガスが供給されて発電する燃料電池を運転する装置 であって、 前記燃料ガスまたは前記酸化ガスの前記膜を介した前記アノード 側または前記カソード側の一方から他方への移動量が増大したか否かを推定 する推定部と、 前記推定の結果が肯定的である場合に、 前記アノード側と前 記カソード側の圧力差を低減するように前記燃料電池へのガス供給状態を変 更する状態変更手段と、 を備えるものでもよレ、。
また、 本発明に係る燃料電池システムの運転方法は、 膜一電極接合体のァ ノード側に燃料ガス、 カソード側に酸化ガスが供給されて発電する燃料電池 の運転方法で'あって、 前記燃料ガスまたは前記酸化ガスの前記膜を介した前 記アノード側または前記カソード側の一方から他方への移動量が増大したか 否かを推定する推定工程と、 前記推定の結果が肯定的である場合に、 前記ァ ノード側と前記力ソード側の圧力差を低減するように前記燃料電池へのガス 供給状態の設定を変更する設定変更工程と、 を備えるものでもよい。
これら燃料電池の異常検出装置および燃料電池システムの運転方法におい て、 燃料ガスまたは酸化ガスの膜を介したアノード側または力ソード側の一 方から他方への移動量が増大した場合には、 上記のようにカソード側への酸 化ガス供給状態を変更する他に、 アノード側への燃料ガス供給状態を変更す る、 さらには、 酸化ガスと燃料ガスの各供給状態を変更することにより、 前 記ァノ一ド側と前記力ソード側の圧力差を低減させてもよい。
図面の簡単な説明 図 1は、 本発明の一実施の形態による異常検出および運転の対象となる燃 料電池を含む燃料電池システムを示す概略構成図。
図 2は、 運転停止後の電圧低下に基づくクロスリークの判定および背圧設 定値の変更の処理内容を説明するフローチャート。
発明を実施するための最良の形態
図 1は、 本1発明の一実施の形態による異常検出および運転の対象となる燃 料電池を含む燃料電池システムを示す概略構成図である。 この燃料電池は、 燃料電池車両の車載発電システムに適用可能である他、 例えば定置用発電シ ステムへの適用が可能である。 同図に示すように、 酸化ガスとしての例えば空気 (外気) は、 空気供給路
7 1を介して燃料電池 2 0のカソード入口側に供給される。 空気供給路 7 1 には空気から微粒子を除去するエアフィルタ A 1、 空気を加圧するコンプレ ッサ A 3、 供給空気圧を検出する圧力センサ P 4及び空気に所要の水分を加 える加湿器 A 2 1が設けられている。 コンプレッサ A 3はモータ (補機) に よって駆動される。
燃料電池 2 ; 0から排出される空気オフガスは排気路 7 2を経て外部に放出 される。 排気路 7 2には、 排気圧を検出する圧力センサ P 1、 圧力調整弁 A 4及び加湿器 A 2 1の熱交換器が設けられている。 圧力センサ P 1は燃料電 池 2 0の力ソード側出口近傍に設けられている。 圧力調整弁 A 4は、 燃料電 池 2 0の力ソード出口側の圧力を調整することにより、.燃料電池 2 0への供 給空気圧を設定する調圧器として機能する。
圧力センサ P 4及び P 1の検出信号は制御部 5 0に送られる。 制御部 5 0 はコンプレッサ A 3及び圧力調整弁 A 4を調整することによつて燃料電池 2 0への供給空気圧や供給空気流量を設定する。

燃料ガス ^しての例えば水素ガスは、 水素供給源 3 0から燃料供給路 7 4 を介して燃料電池 2 0のアノード入口側に供給される。 水素供給源 3 0は、 例えば高圧水素タンクが該当するが、 いわゆる燃料改質器や水素吸蔵合金等 であっても良い。
燃料供給路 7 4には、 水素供給源 3 0から水素を供給しあるいは供給を停 止する水素供給バルブ H I 0 0、 その下流のガス圧力を検出する圧力センサ P 6、 燃料電池 2 0への水素ガスの供給圧力を減圧して調整する水素調圧弁 H 9、 その下流のガス圧力を検出する圧力センサ P 9、 燃料電池 2 0のァノ ード側入口と燃料供給路 7 4間を開閉する F C入口弁 H 2 1、 及び燃料電池 2 0のアノード入口側ガス圧力を検出する圧力センサ P 5が設けられている。 圧力センサ Pi 5、 P 6及び P 9の検出信号は制御部 5 0に供給される。
燃料電池 2 0で消費されなかった水素ガスは水素オフガスとして水素循環 路 7 5に排出され、 燃料供給路 7 4の調圧弁 H 9の下流側に戻される。 水素 循環路 7 5には、 水素オフガスの温度を検出する温度センサ T 3 1、 燃料電 池 2 0と循環路 7 5を連通/遮断する F C出口弁 H 2 2、 水素オフガスから 水分を回収する気液分離器 H 4 2、 回収した生成水を循環路 7 5外の図示し ないタンク等に回収する排水弁 H 4 1、 水素オフガスを加圧する水素ポンプ H 5 0及び逆止弁 H 5 2が設けられている。
F C入ロ弁H 2 1及び F C出口弁 H 2 2は燃料電池のアノード側を閉鎖す る。 温度センサ T 3 1の検出信号は制御部 5 0に供給される。 水素ポンプ H 5 0は、 制御 j部 5 0によって動作が制御される。 水素オフガスは燃料供給路 7 4で水素ガスと合流し、 燃料電池 2 0に供給されて再利用される。 逆止弁 H 5 2は燃料供給路 7 4の水素ガスが水素循環路 7 5側に逆流することを防 止する。 各種の弁 H I 0 0、 H 2 1,、 H 2 2は制御部 5 0からの信号で駆動 される。
水素循環路 7 5はパージ弁 H 5 1を介してパージ流路 7 6によって排気路
7 2に接続される。 排出制御弁 H 5 1は電磁式の遮断弁であり、 制御部 5 0 からの指令によつて作動することにより水素オフガスを外部に排出(パージ) する。 ,
更に、 燃料電池 2 0の冷却水出入口には冷却水を循環させる冷却路 7 3が 設けられている。 冷却路 7 3には、 燃料電池 2 0から排水される冷却水の温 度を検出する温度センサ T 1、冷却水の熱を外部に放熱するラジェータ C 2、 冷却水を加圧して循環させるポンプ C 1及び燃料電池 2 0に供給される冷却 水の温度を検出する温度センサ T 2が設けられている。 ラジェータ C 2には モータによって回転駆動される冷却ファン C 1 3が設けられている。
燃料電池 2 0は、 燃料ガスと酸化ガスが供給されて発電するセルを所要数 積層した燃料電池スタックとして構成されている。 セルは、 M E A (膜一電 極接合体) と、 M E Aを挟持する一対のセパレータとを備えて構成され、 全 体として積層形態を有している。 M E Aは、 高分子材料のイオン交換膜から なる電解質膜と、 この電解質膜を両面から挟んだ一対の電極 (アノードおよ び力ソード) とで構成されている。
燃料電池 2 0が発生した電力は図示しないパワーコントロールュニットに 供給される。パワーコントロールュニットは車両の駆動モータを駆動する(電 力を供給する) インバータと、 コンプレッサモータや水素ポンプ用モータな どの各種の補機類を駆動する (電力を供給する) インバータと、 二次電池へ の充電や二次電池からのモータ類への電力供給を行う D C— D Cコンバータ などが備えられている。
制御部 5 0は、 C P U、 R OM, R AM, H D D , 入出力インタフェース 及びデイスプレイなどの制御コンピュータシステムによつて構成され、 図示 しない車両のアクセル信号などの要求負荷や燃料電池システムの各部のセン

サ (圧力センサ、 温度センサ、 流量センサ、 出力電流計、 出力電圧計等) か ら制御情報を受け取り、 システム各部の弁類やモータ類の運転を制御する。
さらに制御部 5 0は、燃料電池 2 0の運転停止後に、セルモニタ (図示略) にて検出した各セルあるいは所定数のセル群ごとのセル電圧の変化 (以下、 電圧変化) に基づき運転停止後の異常判定、 言い換えれば、 電解質膜の劣化 に起因して生ずる通常範囲を超えるクロスリークの有無を判定 (診断) し、 かかるクロスリークを検出した場合には、酸化ガス供給状態の設定、つまり、 圧力調整弁 A:4の背圧設定値を上記電圧変化に応じて変更する。
つまり、 本'実施形態の制御部 5 0は、 燃料電池 2 0の異常を運転停止後の 電圧変化より検出する異常検出手段 (異常検出部) としての機能、 言い換え れば、 燃料ガスまたは酸化ガスの前記電解質膜を介したアノード側または力 ソード側の一方から他方への移動量が増大したか否かを推定する推定部とし ての機能と、 異常検出後の燃料電池 2 0への酸化ガス供給状態を変更する状 態変更手段 (状態変更部) としての機能、 言い換えれば、 前記推定部での推 定の結果が肯定的である場合に、 アノード側とカソード側の圧力差を低減す るように燃料電池 2 0へのガス供給状態を変更する状態変更部としての機能 を兼ね備えている。 また、 本実施形態による燃料電池の異常検出装置 (運転 装置) は、 セルモニタと制御部 5 0とを備えて構成されている。
クロスリークの判定および背圧設定値の変更は、 例えば、 燃料電池 2 0の 運転停止より計時を開始し、 計時開始から所定時間経過に至るまでの電圧低 下に基づいて、 あるいは、 計時開始から所定電圧低下するまでに要した時間 に基づいて行うことが可能であるが、 以下では、 所定時間あたりの電圧低下 に基づくクロスリークの判定処理および背圧設定値の変更処理を例に説明す る。
制御部 5 0は、 停止処理の最中、 例えば、 ィグニッシヨン O F Fの信号を 検知してから数秒ないし数十秒の間に、 図 2に示されるプログラムを実行す る。 同図のステップ S 1では、 イダニッシヨンが 「O N」 であるかが判定さ れ、 「O N」 の場合 (判定結果: Y E S ) は、 燃料電池 2が運転状態にあると
判定され (ステップ S 3)、 「ON」 でない場合 (判定結果: NO) は、 ステ ップ S 3以降の処理を全てスキップし、 この処理は終了する。
ステップ S 5では、 イダニッシヨンが 「OFF」 であるかが判定され、 「0 FF」 の場合(判定結果: YES) は、 ステップ S 7の処理を実行する一方、 「OFF」 でない場合 (判定結果: NO) は、 ステップ S 7以降の処理を全 てスキップし、 この処理は終了する。
ステップ S 7では、 具体的には、 燃料電池 20と駆動モータ等の負荷とを 接続している回路を電気的に遮断して電力消費をさせないようにすると共に、 FC入ロ弁H21及び FC出口弁 H22を遮断して燃料電池 20への水素ガ ス供給を停止した後に、 セルモニタにてセル電圧の測定を開始する。
そして、 セル電圧の測定開始から所定時間経過したら (ステップ S 9)、 ス テツプ S 1 1 (異常検出工程) にて測定開始からの電圧低下(以下、単に「電 圧低下」 という。) が第 1閾値 VI (例えば、 l O Omv) 以上であるかが判 定される。 電圧低下が第 1閾値 V I未満の場合 (判定結果: NO)、 つまり、 電圧低下が通常範囲内である場合はステップ S 25にて正常判定がなされ、 この処理は終了する'。
ステップ S I 1の判定において、 電圧低下が第 1閾値 V I以上の場合 (判 定結果: YES) は、 ステップ S 1 3 (異常検出工程) にて電圧低下が第 2 閾値 V2 (例えば、 300mv) 以上であるかが判定される。 電圧低下が第 2閾値 V 2未,満の場合 (判定結果: NO)、 つまり、 「第 1閾値 V 1≤電圧低 下 <第 2閾値 V2」 の場合は、 ステップ S 2 1 (設定変更工程) にて圧力調 整弁 A4の背圧設定値を変更した後、ステップ S 25にて正常判定がなされ、 この処理は終了する。
変更後の背圧設定値 P A 1は、変更前の背圧設定値 P AOよりも大きく(例 えば、 1 75 k P A)、例えば背圧設定時に参照されるマップ値を所定倍する 等によって設定される。
ステップ S 1 3の判定において、 電圧低下が第 2閾値 V 2以上の場合 (判 定結果: YE,S) は、 ステップ S 15 (異常検出工程) にて電圧低下が第 3 閾値 V3 (例1えば、 500mv) 以上であるかが判定される。 電圧低下が第 3閾値 V3未満の場合 (判定結果: NO)、 つまり、 「第 2閾値 V2≤電圧低 下く第 3閾値 V3」 の場合は、 ステップ S 23 (設定変更工程) にて圧力調 整弁 A 4の背圧設定値を変更した後、ステップ S 25にて正常判定がなされ、 この処理は終了する。
変更後の背圧設定値 PA2は、 上記背圧設定値 PAO, PA1よりも大き く (例えば、 20 O k PA)、 例えば上記背圧設定値 P A 1の設定と同様に、 背圧設定時に参照されるマップ値を所定倍する等によって設定される。
ステップ S 1 5の判定において、 電圧低下が第 3閾値 V 3以上の場合 (判 定結果: YES)、例えば、 電解質膜が破損している場合等のように電圧低下 が著しく、 ステップ S 21 , S 23のように圧力調整弁 A 4の背圧設定値を 増加させても適正な運転を行えないような場合には、 ステップ S 1 7にて異 常判定がなされ、 ゥオーニングを点灯する等の処理を実行した後、 この処理 を終了する。 .
以上説明したとおり、 本実施形態による燃料電池の異常検知装置 (運転装 置)および燃料電池の運転方法によれば、運転停止後の電圧変化に基づいて、 通常範囲を超えるクロスリークを異常として検出することができる。しかも、 かかるクロスリークを検出した場合には、 圧力調整弁 A 4の背圧設定値を変 更 (所定倍) して力ソード出口側の背圧を高めることにより、 燃料電池 20 のカソード側圧力を通常運転時はそれより,も高めに設定されているアノード 側圧力に近づけことができ、 ァノード側からカソ一ド側への燃料ガスのクロ スリークが抑制される。
また、 燃料電池 20の運転停止後の電圧低下は、 通常範囲を超えるクロス リークの一因である電解質膜の劣化が進行しているほど大きくなるのに対応
して、 本実施形態では、 当該運転停止後の電圧低下が大きいほど、 力ソード 出口側の背圧設定値を高めているので、 膜劣化の進行に伴い増大するァノー ド側からカソード側への燃料ガスのクロスリークをより一層効果的に抑制す ることができる。
(他の実施形態)
上記実施形'態は本発明を説明するための例示であり、 本発明をこれに限定 するものではなく、 その要旨を逸脱しない限り各種構成部品を適宜設計する ことができる。 例えば、 上記実施形態では、 圧力調整弁 A 4の背圧設定値を 変更しているが、 圧力調整弁 A 4に代わる燃料電池 2 0への酸化ガス供給状 態設定手段を備える構成では、 該設定手段の設定値を変更してもよい。
また、 上記実施形態では、 運転停止後の電圧低下に基づく異常判定および 酸化ガス供給状態の変更 (図 2 ) を、 イダニッシヨン O F Fの信号を検知し てから所定時間内に行っているが、 運転停止後にセルモニタのみを定期的に 起動し、 例えば数時間単位での電圧低下によって異常判定および酸化ガス供 給状態の変更を行うようにしてもよい。
さらに、 燃,料ガスまたは酸化ガスの電解質膜を介したァノード側または力 ソード側の一方から他方への移動量が増大したか否かの診断、言い換えれば、 クロスリークの診断は、 上記の電圧に基づく方法に限らず、 例えば、 燃料電 池 2 0のオフガスに含まれるガス成分に基づいて行うことも可能である。 つ まり、 空気オフガス (力ソードオフガス) に含まれる燃料ガス (アノードガ ス) の量と、 水素オフガス (アノードオフガス) に含まれる酸化ガス (カソ —ドガス) の量との少なくとも一方が増大した場合に、 クロスリーク量 (移 動量) が増大した診断してもよい。
また、 上記クロスリークの診断は、 単位時間あたりの圧力の変化量で診断 することも可能である。 この場合においては、 例えば、 運転停止後に、 大気 と遮断された燃料ガス配管 (燃料供給路 7 4、 循環路 7 5等) 内における圧
力の低下速度が速いほど、 クロスリークが多いと判断してもよい。
さらに、 アノード側と力ソード側の圧力差を低減させるには、 上記実施形 態のように力ソード側の供給圧を変更する他に、 以下の方法を採用してもよ レ、。 例えば、 通常発電時における力ソード側の圧力 (以下、 力ソード圧) と アノード側の圧力 (以下、 アノード圧) との関係が、 力ソード圧くアノード 圧を満たすように制御される燃料電池システムの場合には、 カソード圧を上 げる又はアノード圧を下げる。
また、 通常発電時における力ソード圧とアノード圧との関係が、 力ソード 圧〉ァノード圧を満たすように制御される燃料電池システムの場合には、 例

えばアノード圧を上げる、 力ソード圧を下げる、 あるいはアノード圧を上げ ると共に力ソード圧を下げる等により、 アノード側とカソード側の圧力差を 低減させ得て、 カソ一ド側からァノード側へのクロスリークを抑制すること が可能となる。
産業上の利用可能性
本発明によれば、 運転停止後に燃料電池の異常検出 (異常診断) を行うだ けでなく、 異常を検出した場合にはガス供給状態を変更するので、 異常検出 後、 次の運転停止までのクロスリ一ク量を抑制することができる。
よって、 本発明は、 そのような要求のある燃料電池の異常検知装置、 運転 装置及ぴ運転方法に広く利用することができる。
Claims
1 . 膜一電極接合体のアノード側に燃料ガス、 力ソード側に酸化ガスが供 給されて発電する燃料電池の異常を検出する装置であって、
燃料電池の異常を運転停止後の電圧変化より検出する異常検出手段と、 異常検出後の燃料電池への酸化ガス供給状態を変更する状態変更手段と、 を備える燃料電池の異常検出装置。
2 . 請求項 1に記載の燃料電池の異常検出装置において、
前記状態変更手段は、前記電圧変化に応じて酸化ガス供給状態を変更する。
3 . 請求項 1又は 2に記載の燃料電池の異常検出装置において、
前記状態変更手段は、 運転停止後の電圧低下が大きいほどカソード側の背 圧設定値を増加する。
4 . 膜一電極接合体のァノード側に燃料ガス、 カソード側に酸化ガスが供 給されて発電する燃料電池を運転する装置であって、
前記燃料ガスまたは前記酸化ガスの前記膜を介した前記ァノ一ド側または 前記カソード側の一方から他方への移動量が増大したか否かを推定する推定 部と、
前記推定の結果が肯定的である場合に、 前記アノード側と前記力ソード側 の圧力差を低減するように前記燃料電池へのガス供給状態を変更する状態変 更手段と、 を備える燃料電池の運転装置。
5 . 膜一電極接合体のァノ一ド側に燃料ガス、 力ソード側に酸化ガスが供 給されて発電する燃料電池の運転方法であって、
燃料電池の異常を運転停止後の電圧変化より検出する異常検出工程と、 燃料電池の異常を検出した場合に、 酸化ガス供給状態の設定を変更する設 定変更工程と、 を備える燃料電池システムの運転方法。
6 . 請求項 5に記載の燃料電池システムの運転方法において、
前記設定変更工程では、 運転停止後の電圧低下が大きいほどカソード側へ のガス供給圧を高める。
7 . 膜—電極接合体のアノード側に燃料ガス、 力ソード側に酸化ガスが供 給されて発電する燃料電池の運転方法であって、
前記カソード側の一方から他方への移動量が増大したか否かを推定する推定 工程と、
前記推定の結果が肯定的である場合に、 前記アノード側と前記カソード側 の圧力差を低減するように前記燃料電池へのガス供給状態の設定を変更する 設定変更工程と、 を備える燃料電池システムの運転方法。
