Definitions

  • the present invention relates to a seat belt triggered starting apparatus, and more particularly to, a seat belt triggered starting apparatus in which an automobile is started only when a seat belt is kept in wear.
  • seat belts calledsafety belts for an automobile should be duly kept in wear by a driver and passengers.
  • the seat belts are provided to protect lives of a driver and passengers when a traffic accident has occurred.
  • most of traffic accidents cause impact and vibration which are transferred to a vehicle body to thereby cause a driver and passengers to lose their lives and be damaged since the upper bodies of the driver and passengers collide with the automobile interior structures such as a steering wheel. It has been reported that the number of the dead and the injury can be remarkably reduced in the case that drivers and passengers wear a seat belt, respectively.
  • a seat belt unwearing state is detected in an automobile and thus the detected seat belt unwearing state is nothing but displayed using a warning lamp.
  • a driver andpassengers do not wear a seat belt, respectively, there are no particular influences upon driving an automobile.
  • an existing seat belt triggered starting apparatus adopts an ignition plug connection system and thus has a demerit that it is applicable to only vehicles using gasoline.
  • a seat belt triggered starting apparatus in which an automobile is started only when a seat belt is kept in wear in the automobile by a driver and passengers, respectively, to thereby make a driver and passengers try to wear a seat belt, respectively. It is another object of the present invention to provide a seat belt triggered starting apparatus for detecting whether or not a seat belt is kept in wear by a driver and passengers, respectively, when an automobile is started, to thereby help a safety driving, because it is safe to wear a seat belt before the automobile has not been started, and a traffic accident may happen only in the case that a driver and passengers try to wear a seat belt after starting an automobile, in particular, during driving.
  • a seat belt triggered starting apparatus which is started only when a seat belt is kept in wear by a driver or passengers
  • the seat belt triggered starting apparatus comprising: a first switch whose one end is connected with an automobile starter switch and other end is connected with an automobile starter motor and an automobile engine, in which the starter switch is connected with the automobile starter motor and the automobile engine when the first switch is turned on, and the former is not disconnected from the latter when the first switch is turned off; and a second switch which makes the first switch turned on when the seat belt is kept in wear, and makes the first switch turned off when the seat belt is not kept in wear.
  • the first switch is an electronic switch.
  • the second switch includes a relay whose one end is connected with the first switch and other end is connected with an automobile battery providing an electric power for the relay, in which one of connection wires which is connected with the automobile battery is connected when the seat belt is kept in wear and is connected with a seat belt switch which is electrically shorted when the seat belt is released.
  • the seat belt switch is a single-lever micro-switch.
  • the seat belt triggered starting apparatus operates in the sequence of the seat belt switch, the second switch and the first switch.
  • FIG. 1 is a circuit diagram showing a seat belt triggered starting apparatus according to an embodiment of the present invention
  • FIGs. 2A and 2B show structure of a seat belt switch in the seat belt triggered starting apparatus according to the present invention.
  • FIG. 3 shows a seat belt in the seat belt triggered starting apparatus according to the present invention.
  • a seat belt triggered starting apparatus operates according to a circuit diagramof starting an automobile or vehicle.
  • a driver inserts a starting key called an automobile key into a starter switch 18 and turns it to thereby compulsively drive an engine 16 with a starter motor 17, and to thus make the engine 16 rotate itself.
  • the starter motor 17 includes a motor portion and a switch portion.
  • a flywheel attached to a crankshaft is rotated. Since gears of several times as many as pinion gears in the starter motor are attached to the peripheral portion of the flywheel, rotation of the startermotor 17 is reduced to then be transferred to the crankshaft.
  • the crankshaft is rotated with a large force as much as the speed reduced, to thus make pistons operate at a compression cycle state to thereby enable an engine 16 to state.
  • a starter switch 18 In an existing automobile, one end of a starter switch 18 is connected with a starter motor 17 and the other end thereof is connected with an engine 16. Thus, when the starter switch 18 is made to operate by an electric power source from an automobile battery 15, the engine 16 is started by operation of the starter motor 17. According to an embodiment of the present invention, onlywhen a seatbelt ona driver's seat is kept inwear, the starter switch 18 is connected with the starter motor 17 and the engine 16. Thus, the engine 16 can be started only when the driver's seat belt is kept in wear.
  • both ends of the starter switch 18 is connected with an electronic switch 3 via wires 10 and 11.
  • the other end of the electronic switch 3 is the starter motor 17 and the engine 16, respectively, via wires 10' and 11' .
  • the starter switch is connected with an automobile battery 15 to receive an operating voltage.
  • a signal operating the electronic switch 3 is supplied by a relay 2.
  • One end of the relay 2 is connected with the automobile battery 15 and the other end thereof is connected with the electronic switch 3. That is, when a seat belt is properly kept in wear, a seat belt switching circuit is closed or connected. In other words, the seat belt plays a role of a triggering switch.
  • the relay 2 when the seat belt is kept in wear, the relay 2 is operated by an operating voltage supplied from the automobile battery 15, and the relay 2 makes the electronic switch 3 operate. Then, the relay 2 makes the starter switch 18 electrically connected with the starter motor 17 and the engine 16, to thus make the automobile ready to be started.
  • connection wires of the relay 2 are shown in more detail. Connection wires
  • FIGs. 2A and 2B show structure of a seat belt switch 1 in the seat belt triggered starting apparatus according to the present invention.
  • a driver does not wear a seat belt
  • contacts 13 and 14 in the seat belt switch 1 are always maintained at a non-contact position as shown in FIG.2A. Accordingly, since the whole circuit of the seat belt switch 1 in FIG.1 is not closed, the relay 2 is not operated.
  • a seat belt insertion portion that is, a seat belt tongue 22 of FIG. 3 depresses a pressing plate 21 and then a pressing pin 12 attached on the lower portion of the pressing plate 21 depresses the contact 13, to thereby make the two contacts 13 and 14 contact each other.
  • FIG.3 shows a seat belt in the seat belt triggered starting apparatus according to the present invention. As shown in FIG. 3, a seat belt switch 24 of FIGs.2A and 2B is inserted into a seat belt buckle 23.
  • the seat belt tongue 22 When a driver wears the seat belt, the seat belt tongue 22 is inserted into the seat belt buckle 23. Accordingly, the seat belt tongue 22 depresses the pressing plate 21. Then, the pressing pin 12 located under the pressing plate 21 makes the two contact 13 and 14 meet each other. As a result, the relay 2 in the seat belt triggered starting apparatus is operated to make the engine 16 ready to be started. Reversely, when the seat belt tongue 22 is released from the seat belt buckle 23, the two contacts 13 and 14 are separated from each other, to thereby make the whole circuit of FIG. 1 opened, that is, turned off.
