Abstract

Bei einem bekannten Verfahren zur Herstellung eines Hohlzylinders aus Quarzglas mittels des sogenannten „Sootverfahrens“ wird durch Abscheiden von SiO2-Partikeln auf einer Mantelfläche eines um seine Längsachse rotierenden Trägers ein poröses Sootrohr mit zentraler Innenbohrung hergestellt, und das Sootrohr in einem Ofen erhitzt und gesintert und dabei mittels einer Haltevorrichtung gehalten, die ein in die Innenbohrung hineinragendes, langgestrecktes Formelement umfaßt, auf welches das Sootrohr unter Bildung des Hohlzylinders aufkollabiert. Um hiervon ausgehend ein wirtschaftliches Verfahren anzugeben, mittels dem Quarzglas-Hohlzylinder mit enger Innenbohrung erhalten werden können, wird erfindungsgemäss vorgeschlagen, dass beim Sintern mindestens zeitweise eine Druckdifferenz zwischen einem in der Innenbohrung des Sootrohres herrschenden niedrigeren Innendruck und einem außerhalb der Innenbohrung anliegenden höheren Aussendruck erzeugt und aufrechterhalten wird. Eine für das Verfahren geeignete Vorrichtung wird auch beschrieben.
