- the labyrinth shut-off 40 has inter-engaging male and female portions, 45, and 50, in the base core, and side cores respectively. These labyrinth interfaces are designed to act as a shut off to seal potential run out areas for the molten metal from the mould.
- the external faces of the cores 3, 4 and 5 have robotic gripper positions 55, 60 and 65 formed into them, to facilitate manipulation by the grippers 20, and 25, of the robotic arms 10 and 15.
- any manipulation of the mould and casting close to solidus is problematic, not to mention dangerous, due to the amount of residual heat retained in them from the casting process.
- the method according to the present invention will be of particular benefit to those wishing to utilize automated devices such as robots to handle a freshly poured casting and mould. This method ensures that each mould will be positioned identically before subsequent automated processes can commence. This in turn means that castings are less likely to be damaged by any automated machines uitlised in post pouring processes.
