Dans un afficheur électronique (livre électronique, appareil de livre électronique) (1), en réponse à une sélection de mode d'affichage par un utilisateur, un signal d'instruction de mode d'affichage est reçu depuis un module d'entrée (12) du signal par un commutateur, et un module d'établissement (11) du mode d'affichage établit le mode d'affichage. Lors de l'établissement du mode d'affichage, une liste de contenus se trouvant dans un support de stockage amovible (20) s'affiche sur l'écran. L'utilisateur peut ainsi sélectionner un mode d'affichage désiré à partir d'une pluralité de modes d'affichage. En outre, selon le nombre de contenus à afficher dans une liste, il est possible de sélectionner un mode d'affichage dans l'afficheur électronique, ce qui affiche une liste de contenus. Il est donc possible d'afficher une liste de contenus dans un mode optimal en fonction du nombre de contenus.
