- the protective layer on the surface of the transmission body serves to protect the elastomer of the transmission body from oxidative aging caused by atmospheric oxygen during operation of the coupling.
- the elastomer of the transmission body is essentially optimized with regard to its elastic-mechanical properties and is therefore less resistant to the oxidative attack by atmospheric oxygen. If one were to use an elastomer for the transmission body which is as resistant to aging as the elastomer of the covering, the elastic-mechanical properties of the transmission body would be worse.

- a synthetic rubber based on chloroprene (2-chloro-1, 3 butadiene) can be used to produce the protective layer.
- Thin layers of synthetic rubber for the production of the protective layer are first introduced into the cavities of a vulcanizing mold which receives the flanges of the coupling to be produced in the areas where the protective layers are to be produced.

- the vulcanizing mold is closed and the rubber filling is vulcanized in the vulcanizing press under the influence of heat and pressure.
