Definitions
- the present invention relates to civil and industrial construction, and more specifically to that area concerned with the production of flat panels which, when laid parallel to and alongside each other, form the traffic-bearing surface raised above a sub-floor, and are supported and maintained in this position by a plurality of supports or pedestals positioned between the panels and the said sub-floor.
- the gap between the abovementioned coplanar panels and the sub-floor underneath forms a so-called "access space” in which pipes, electrical cables etc. can be run.
- the flat panels in question are prepared by numerous different methods: for example they may be wood boards, or boxed metal structures.
- a recent introduction onto the market has been flat panels exhibiting improved characteristics of functionality and dimensional accuracy and consist of concave metal trays, concavity uppermost, which are filled to the brim with a particular synthetic resin, anhydrite, which, if mixed with inert particles of very fine particle size (mean diameter approximately 0.3 mm), is almost perfectly liquid before setting, and therefore fills the tray with a layer that terminates at the top with a perfectly flat surface.
- the invention more specifically relates to this latter type of flat panel, and provides a combination of features which improve its functionality and simplify its manufacture, reducing its cost and increasing its ability to withstand the stresses of the loads applied to it.
- the inventor makes the said tray by drawing in a single operation, as a result of which the internal surface of the tray contains no incisions or interruptions of any type, in such a way that the corners do not exhibit the incisions found in current trays, caused by the fact that they are made in two successive operations, namely a shaping and bevelling cut followed by folding of the edges.
- the inventor has the surrounding walls of the tray slope outwards at an angle of about 3°, and this feature also allows, as will be seen in more detail later, a simple and practical arrangement of the panels laid alongside each other on their bearing pedestals.
- the inventor has formed on the inner surface of the abovementioned tray a plurality of purchase means which secure the layer of anhydrite to the tray and resist relative movement between the layer and the tray so that the whole of the flat panels reacts as one to the stresses produced by the bending induced by the loading.
- the subject of the present invention is therefore a flat quadrilateral panel for laying parallel to and alongside others to form the traffic-bearing surface of a raised floor as described in the appended Claim 1.
- FIG 2 a diagrammatic representation of the region of the join between two flat panels of the invention and between the latter and a supporting pedestal beneath them.
- a flat quadrilateral panel 1, 11 consists of a concave metal tray 5, 15 with the concavity uppermost and filled with a layer 6 of self-levelling synthetic anhydrite mixed with inert particles of very fine particle size, as already mentioned.
- the said floor 2 is held up by a plurality of pedestals 4n laid out in such a way as to support all the flat panels 1, 11.
- Each tray 5,15 forming a flat panel is made by drawing, without making any incisions on it into which the anhydrite could flow and thereby modify, following setting, the transverse dimensions of a flat panel beyond the very close dimensional limits of tolerance imposed by this type of construction (plus or minus 0.2 mm) .
- the outer edge 8 of each tray 5, 15 is inclined outwards with respect to the vertical at an angle ⁇ much less than 30°, and preferably only about 3° (in the drawings this angle is shown exaggerated for visibility) .
- This inclination of the edge 8 not only makes it easier, as already mentioned, to extract a tray 5, 15 from the die after drawing, but also makes it possible to support the contiguous edges of two adjoining flat panels 1, as shown in Figure 2, on pedestals 4 of very simple, functional shape comprising two arms 4p that support the two panels and are connected to a base 4r by an upright 4m. Rising between the arms is a thin triangular-section part 4t that forms a complementary fit between the two contiguous edges of the adjoining panels, without in any way projecting above and between them. This thin part acts as a positioning and aligning locator for the panels.
- each tray 5, 15 be given purchase means to ensure that a tray is held fast to the layer 6 of synthetic anhydrite which it contains.
- the synthetic anhydrite fills the said holes 7i without extending out of them because of surface tension and hardens to form a plurality of peduncles that bond the layer 6 of synthetic anhydrite to the tray 5, resisting relative movements and making them integral with each other in their reactions to bending stresses
- the said purchase means may instead take the form of bosses 17i (Figure 1) projecting up into the tray 15 by a predetermined height (the inventor regards 3 mm projection as sufficient). In this way the same effect as described above is achieved.
- the inventor suggests mixing with the inert particles a quantity of quartz powder and/or other binding materials to give the layer 6 a desired "fill" that will enhance its mechanical properties.
