Le procédé de fabrication d'un sac consiste à introduire un film en plastique (1), de façon discontinue, dans la machine, à l'aide de premiers rouleaux d'entraînement (2) et de seconds rouleaux d'entraînement (3) synchronisés les uns avec les autres, la vitesse d'introduction correspondant à deux fois les dimensions d'un produit défini. La machine comprend une première série de lames (4) disposées entre les premiers rouleaux d'entraînement (2) et les seconds rouleaux d'entraînement (3) et une seconde série de lames (5) disposées en aval des seconds rouleaux d'entraînement (3), dans le sens d'introduction du film en plastique (1). Les premières lames (4) et les secondes lames (5) sont montées de façon mobile, pour que l'espace qui les sépare puisse être adapté aux dimensions du produit à fabriquer. Cette machine permet ainsi de fabriquer des sacs en plastique à une vitesse deux fois supérieure à la vitesse critique de la machine.
