Definitions
- the present invention relates to a motor vehicle according to the preamble to claim.1 and an air conditioning system according to the preamble to claim IT.
- a radiator package incorporating a number of radiator panels for various kinds of cooling retireme ts of the vehicle is arranged in the region of the front of the vehicle.
- a diesel-powered heavy vehicle is provided with the following items arranged behind one another as seen in the direction of forward movement of the vehicle: substantially vertical radiator panels comprising a water radiator for engine cooling, a charge air cooler for cooling the inlet air to the diesel engine and a condenser for an air conditioning syste ⁇ t- Behind this radiator package is arranged a fan unit which is common to the whole radiator package an -drives cooling air through the radiator package.
- This design with an integrated radiator package affords vehicle assembly advantages in that the whole package can be put in place as a unit when assembling the vehicle.
- the number of assembly points is reduced and overall assembly time is reduced, it has been found, however, that this design also entails a number of disadvantages, including problems with respect to cleaning the radiator, cooler and condenser, and troublesome servicing-
- one object of the present invention is to indicate a motor vehicle and an air conditioning system which eliminate the problems of the state of the art, and in particular to provide a solution which enhances the possibility of servicing and repairing components incorporated in the front region of a motor vehicle.
- Arranging the condenser so that it is fastened movably improves radically the accessibility of various components in the vehicle front region. This simplifies and reduces the cost of servicing components situated in this region such as the condenser itsel , the charge air cooler and the water radiator and makes it possible to keep the coolant circuits of the air conditioning system intact. This is a significant advantage in making it possible to avoid the troublesome and expensive operation of emptying and refilling these circuits. It is also advantageous if further components belonging to the air conditioning system can be mounted on the movable support- Accessibility can thus be further .Improved. This is achieved preferably by installing a dry filter belonging to the air conditioning system on the movable support to allow mobility and, in particular, by fastening to the support a unit which incorporates both this dry filter and an expansion valve.
- the condenser is attached firmly to the front hatch of the motor vehicle.
- the condenser and, where applicable, other components can accompany this front hatch during an opening movement.
- the front hatch should include a stabilising element incorporating a support for the condenser and that this element should take the form of a peripheral frame forming part of the structure of the front hatch.
- Fig, 1 depicts schematically a motor vehicle according to a first embodiment of the invention with closed front hatch
- Fig. 2 depicts the motor vehicle in Fig. 1 with open front hatch with integrated support for a condenser
- Fig. 3 depicts a motor vehicle according to a second embodiment of the invention, with open front hatch and separate condenser pivoted out, and
- Fig. 4 depicts a motor vehicle according to a third embodiment of the invention, with the condenser mounted on a movable support.
- Fig. 1 depicts very schematically a heavy vehicle 1 with a cab 2 which incorporates a front hatch 3 which is substantially vertical during vehicle operation, is openable and is partly permeable to air. Behind the front hatch are arranged, from front to rear, a condenser 4 belonging to an air conditioning system, a charge air cooler 5 and a water radiator 6 for cooling the engine's cooling water. These cooling elements 4, 5 and 6 take the form of substantially vertical radiator panels of conventional kinds. Behind the radiator panels a fan unit 8 is arranged to drive cooling air through these radiator panels.
- the air conditioning system which is of a conventional kind, also incorporates an evaporator 31, a compressor 30 and a number of undepicted components such as a fan and a cooling medium reservoir.
- the front hatch 3 incorporates a stabilising frame 9 arranged peripherally at substantially the outer edges of the front hatch.
- said condenser 4 and the unit 7 comprising a dry filter and an expansion valve which are also components of the air conditioning system.
- Ref. ID denotes fastening elements in the form of brackets for fastening ' the condenser 4 to the frame 9 of the front hatch 3.
- This frame 9 takes the form of a movable support which allows the condenser to be pivoted from the operating position in Fig. 1 which pertains to normal operation of the vehicle, i.e. with the front hatch and condenser retracted, to the position depicted in Fig. 2 in which it has been raised from the operating position to a position which provides accessibility not only to the rear of the condenser but also to other components in the region concerned.
- Fig. 2 depicts the heavy vehicle 1 with the front hatch 3 open and the condenser 4 [and in this embodiment also the unit 7 comprising dry filter and expansion valve) fastened to the support, which thus takes the form of the frame 9 of the front hatch 3 and is therefore involved in the pivoting of the front hatch 3.
- the condenser 4 [and in this embodiment also the unit 7 comprising dry filter and expansion valve) fastened to the support, which thus takes the form of the frame 9 of the front hatch 3 and is therefore involved in the pivoting of the front hatch 3.
- These components are thus moved away from other components such as the charge air cooler 5 etc, which are arranged in the front region of the vehicle, when servicing, cleaning etc. have to be carried out in this region.
- the front hatch 3 is supported by pivot arms, one of which is depicted and marked as ref. 11.
- the pivot arm pivots about a spindle 32.
- the invention also eliminates relative movements between various parts of the air conditioning system during operation of the motor vehicle, movements which might otherwise be problematical or the system' s hoses and connections .
- the invention makes it possible to avoid fastening certain components of the air conditioning system to the vehicle chassis.
- the hose routing which results from the invention also reduces the risk of per oration and consequent leakage from the system.
- the front hatch 13 of the depicted vehicle 12 has no special connection to the condenser 16.
- a separate pivotable support 14 e.g. a stabilising frame, which may take the form of a substantially rectangular metal frame and be pivotable about a spindle 15 to allow a pivoting movement relative to the vehicle.
- the condenser 16 is fastened to the ⁇ support 14 by means of a suitable number of suitably designed fastening elements 17, e.g. in the form of supporting brackets.
- the support incorporates suitable locking means (not depicted) to enable it to be locked in the retracted position-
- Fig. 4 depicts an embodiment in which a vehicle 19 has a front hatch 20 which is equipped with a slide path 21 for cooperation with slide means 24 on a support 22 for a condenser 23.
- the condenser can thus be moved in a substantially linear manner from an operating position to a moved— way position which improves accessibility to, inter alia, various other radiator panels.
- This diagram also indicates by broken lines at 23' that the condenser is mounted releasably on the support to facilitate replacement. This option applies to all the embodiments herein described.
- the condenser may be arranged to be movable in some other way, e.g. so that it is fastened movably and can be pivoted away from the charge air cooler, water radiator etc., by means integrated with the condenser, e.g. a frame with pivoting facilities.
- a support for the condenser may comprise a simple frame which may be pivotable in the same direction as the front hatch or in any other suitable direction, e.g. sideways or downwards. It is preferable, however, that the support be integrated with the front hatch and be therefore pivotable together with the latter, since this minimises the number of components and reduces the cost.
- dry filter and the expansion valve respectively be arranged on the support or on the front hatch. It does fall within the scope of the invention, however, that these components may be situated at other suitable locations, e.g. as conventionally, i.e. astened in the ont region of the vehicle . '
