- the invention relates to an optical storage medium, preferably CD or DVD, with a spiral track consisting of successive depressions (pits), on which a hologram is superimposed in the recording area.
- CD in particular are objects of product piracy and the high counterfeiting rate of CD causes considerable losses for manufacturers because of the counterfeit products and in particular also because of the quality defects of these counterfeit products.
- holograms forming seals of authenticity are usually applied to the back of the CD or to the annular edge strips or to the inner area between which the recording area is located.
- These authenticity-forming holograms not only have to be specially produced, but also have to be applied with additional manufacturing steps, and they can also be easily produced by counterfeiters and applied to imitated CDs.
- Such protection against counterfeiting can be achieved in that the hologram is introduced into the recording area of the CD in such a way that the quality of the stored signals does not suffer when it is read out.
- a CD or a DVD is known, in the recesses (pits) of which a hologram is introduced. Since the hologram is only stored in the pits, it consists of pixels dependent on the length of the pits, so that the recognizability of the reconstructed hologram is impaired.

- the holograms forming an authenticity feature are generated in the CD master, so that the CD can be molded by injection molding or embossing by mass production.
- the production of the CD master with the hologram incorporated in the tool requires special knowledge of the manufacturer that will not be readily available to a counterfeiter.
- the authenticity features according to the invention in the form of holograms can be implemented not only on CD and DVD, but also on all other optical storage media in a corresponding or analogous manner.
- the ratio of the depths of the holographic phase structure to the depths of the depressions (pits) is 1: 5 to 1:10 and preferably 1: 6. It should be taken into account here that a diffraction efficiency of about 10% is achieved, for example, with a structure depth of the holograms of 20 nm. Holograms with diffraction efficiencies of around 2% are already clearly visible to the human eye.

- the photoresist is then developed with an alkaline developer so that a holographic surface relief is formed in the photoresist with a preferred depth of 500 nm, for example.

- the holographic image then appears with the correct orientation in the nickel matrix obtained and is raised above the nickel matrix.
