Description

PROCEDE D'IMPRESSION SUR CORPS TUBULAIRES D'UN DECOR PRESENTANT SIMULTANEMENT DES MOTIFS BRILLANTS ET DES MOTIFS MATS OU SATINES METHOD FOR PRINTING ON TUBULAR BODIES A DECORATION SHOWING SIMULTANEOUSLY BRILLIANT PATTERNS AND MATTE OR SATIN PATTERNS
DOMAINE TECHNIQUETECHNICAL AREA
The invention relates to a method of printing on cylindrical bodies making it possible to obtain a decoration having simultaneously brilliant patterns and matt or satin patterns. The invention relates more particularly to a dry offset printing process.
ETAT DE LA TECHNIQUESTATE OF THE ART
Dry offset printing is commonly used when printing the exterior surface of a cylindrical object of revolution such as a beverage can, an aerosol dispenser can or a flexible tube. This process consists of depositing several inks of different colors on a blanket and then transferring these inks by contact of the blanket with the cylindrical surface to be printed. In general, several blankets are mounted on a turntable called a blanket table. The inks are deposited successively on each blanket by means of plate cylinders, also called plates, which are application rollers having parts in relief formed by photoengraving from a negative. There is one photo per color. Their assembly requires careful development to obtain the desired juxtaposition of colors, that is to say without shifting a colored pattern relative to the pattern of another color. This operation of calibrating the positioning of the pictures is called color calibration. Once adjusted, the machine ensures precise and repetitive positioning of the colors in relation to each other. The inks are then dried - thermally or by the use of ultraviolet rays - then the surface is covered with a varnish which protects the printed decoration from external aggressions or, especially if the wall is made of plastic, to accentuate the barrier. diffusion with gases and aromas. The general matt or shiny appearance of the decor is given by the varnish. The varnish is generally deposited by roller application over the entire surface of the cylindrical body with a simple device distinct from the offset machine. The use of a simple device distinct from the offset machine is possible because the deposit is made over the entire surface of the cylindrical body and there is no need to place the varnish relative to a mark associated with the decoration.
Indeed, in case of recovery, that is to say when it is necessary to use a second device separate from the first device to print an additional pattern, it must be able to position this additional pattern relative to those already deposited. In this case, the locating technique is used: a mark characteristic of the positioning of the first patterns of the decoration is printed with the first device and the second printing device is fitted with an optical reading device which, by locating this mark, allows the second device to correctly place the subsequent patterns. Marking is a technique of juxtaposition or overprinting which is difficult to develop and which is all the less precise when the production rate is high. The difficulty is, on the other hand, much greater when it comes to printing the cylindrical surface of tubular bodies.
Whatever the solution used, those skilled in the art must use the tracking technique which reduces production rates and requires frequent corrective actions. The problem of positioning the two varnishes with respect to the inked decoration (first case) or the second varnish with respect to the first varnish (second case) is indeed difficult to solve because it is no longer a question of calibrating the positioning of photographs on a offset machine (focus made once and for all) but to recognize with an optical device a mark printed on the cylindrical wall at the same time as the first patterns and to place the area to be printed relative to this mark .
PROBLEME POSEPROBLEM
OBJET DE L'INVENTIONTo keep the high production rates of cylindrical bodies such as plastic tubes or aerosol cans, the Applicant has sought a method avoiding the identification. It was therefore a question of finding an economical printing process on cylindrical bodies making it possible to give a matt / glossy contrast effect on a varnished decoration, this process being carried out without recovery, that is to say not using a machine. additional offset or an additional screen printing machine and does not impose delicate marking constraints on the decor. OBJECT OF THE INVENTION
The object of the invention is a method of printing on cylindrical bodies of varnished decorations having simultaneously brilliant patterns and matt or satin patterns characterized in that one chooses, according to the pattern to be printed, a matt ink or an ink glossy as a function of the final appearance sought in this part of the decoration, in that each of said patterns is printed with said ink and in that a glossy varnish is immediately applied to the entire surface of the tubular body.
According to the invention, the inks, chosen matt or glossy depending on the desired final appearance, are deposited - for example using a dry offset machine - and the gloss varnish is deposited immediately after, that is to say - say without waiting for the inks to be dry.
The varnish can for example be applied with a roller just behind the offset machine, as illustrated in the figure.
When the cylindrical bodies have bare metal walls - for example casing bodies for aerosol dispensers - the bare metal surface is preferably covered before printing, by applying a layer of primer to the roller. With an aluminum housing body, a modified polyester resin type primer is used.
Matt inks exist on the market, but it is preferable to make them from glossy ink of the corresponding color and to matt them by adding mineral or organic filler. For example, 5% to 20% by weight of silica powder is added to the glossy ink. This must have a suitable particle size: the particles must be sufficiently fine to be able to be entrained by the volatile materials which are released during the drying but large enough that when they reach the surface of the varnish, they disturb the relief of said surface and modify its reflective qualities.
La demanderesse a constaté qu'une poudre mélangée à l'encre avec un pourcentage pondéral de 10% et ayant un diamètre passant D50 compris entre 3 μ et 10 μ donnait de bons résultats, les meilleurs se situant aux alentours de 6μ.Although the observation of the varnished layer is very difficult due to its small thickness, the Applicant indeed assumes that the surprising result consisting in that the glossy varnish becomes matt in certain places is due to the migration of the matting particles from the matt ink towards the exterior surface of the varnish, migration probably facilitated by the centrifugal evacuation of volatile matter from the ink and varnish. The Applicant has found that a powder mixed with ink with a weight percentage of 10% and having a passing diameter D50 of between 3 μ and 10 μ gave good results, the best being around 6 μ.
To allow the matting particles to migrate from the ink to the varnish, it is preferable to aim for gradual drying. Thus, with regard to UV drying, it will preferably be broken down into two stages:
• un premier passage de 2 à 6 minutes dans un four où règne une température comprise entre 60 et 100 °C• a first passage of 2 to 6 minutes in an oven where a temperature between 60 and 100 ° C prevails
MODE DE REALISATION DE L'INVENTIONRegarding thermal drying, we will try not to reach too quickly the temperature usually used, around 180 ° C, for example by imposing a level of one to three minutes around 100 ° C.
