Description

The present invention relates, in general, to the decoration of flat surfaces or complex surfaces, that is to say extending in the three dimensions of space, by an industrial marking process. This process applies to the decoration of surfaces that may belong to objects made of various materials: metal, plastic, wood, textile, etc. More particularly, the invention is applicable to decorative marking by coloring of school and office articles, called "stationery", a particular example being the decorative marking of scissors, in particular metal blades of scissors.
D'autres techniques connues, permettant d'obtenir un résultat visuellement équivalent, sont les suivantes :Decorative sublimation marking techniques are already used in the automotive and eyewear industries. Other known techniques, making it possible to obtain a visually equivalent result, are the following:
- la sérigraphie, applicable pour des surfaces planes ou de très grand rayon de courbure ;- screen printing, applicable for flat surfaces or very large radius of curvature;
These various techniques make it possible to obtain a visually acceptable decoration, but the markings produced have a relatively low adhesion to their support surfaces, so that the resistance over time of such markings is not adequately ensured.
In particular, scissors and, more generally, all school and office items are subjected to mechanical attack, due to their use (abrasive properties of paper) or to their storage and transport conditions, for example inside a drawer or case where they are subject to friction and impact against other similar articles or instruments, especially if these are metallic. Under these conditions, any insufficiently adherent decorative marking degrades quickly, or even disappears completely after a certain time.
The "dip" marking technique is still known, which may be technically suitable in the field of application here concerned, but the implementation of which involves high costs. The present invention aims to avoid these drawbacks by providing a decoration method by marking which is applicable to all kinds of surfaces, and which leads to obtaining a high quality marking, not only from the point of view of decorative effect but also by its very good adhesion, providing it with resistance to mechanical aggressions and a long service life, this process however remaining economical. In the particular case of decorating scissor blades, the invention also aims to provide a process which is easily integrated into the process of manufacturing scissors. To this end, the process for decoration by marking flat or complex surfaces, object of the invention, essentially consists in carrying out a prior varnishing of the surface to be decorated, then in carrying out, on the varnished surface, a heat- printing using sublimation paper, previously printed with the chosen decoration. Thus, the invention consists in providing a prior varnishing step, essential for the actual decoration of the surfaces concerned, which is carried out by thermal printing, in other words by a sublimation operation.
More particularly, this sublimation operation is carried out by applying, to the previously varnished surfaces, an appropriate pressure and temperature, allowing the transfer in ink phase of the ink, from the sublimation paper to the surfaces to be decorated.
As for the prior varnishing step, this advantageously comprises coating the surface to be decorated with at least one layer of white paint, then depositing at least one layer of transparent varnish, with intermediate drying phases. and degassing, the varnishing being followed by cooking in an oven.
In the particular case of an application of the method of the invention to the decoration of scissor blades, in particular of metal blades, this decoration process occurs after the machining of the scissor blades, and before the molding of the rings on these blades by injection of a thermoplastic material.
The process which is the subject of the invention is described below in more detail, taking precisely as an example the decoration of metal blades of scissors. These blades are therefore considered at the end of machining, the sharpening of which is the last operation. Once the machining is complete, the blades are degreased again, on a solvent cleaning machine, before starting the varnishing operation. The varnishing operation is carried out in several successive phases, on a roller varnisher composed of several mechanically linked assemblies.
On the first assembly, the degreased blades are individually deposited on a conveyor belt, so that the length direction of the blades corresponds to the direction of advance of the belt, the blades being held in this direction by lateral guides. The conveyor belt can be supplied manually, for example by supplying a blade every three seconds.
Each blade then passes under a blanket roller of suitable width, for example equal to 45 mm. This blanket roller is continuously coated with white paint by a transfer deposition device, composed of an inkwell and an automatic ink roller with an engraved and microporous steel roller. At the outlet of this first assembly, the blade is dried by a pneumatic nozzle, before passing under a second similar assembly, composed of an ink pad and a blanket. The total thickness of white paint thus deposited on the slide is a few microns.
The blade coated with this paint is then driven forward by a conveyor belt for drying at low temperature, and for a period which may be between 40 and 60 seconds. The drying conveyor belt is surmounted by an infrared radiation emitting device, and by a low pressure pneumatic nozzle which facilitates the degassing of the coating previously deposited, that is to say the evaporation of the solvents contained in the paint. white deposited in the previous steps. After this partial drying, the slide is transferred to the next set, where it passes under a double inking and blanket device. The product deposited here is a transparent varnish, the total thickness of varnish deposited in two successive layers being a few microns.
The blade, thus covered with varnish, is again dried by means of a pneumatic nozzle. Then, the dried varnished blade is discharged on an interchangeable plate, supported by a motorized carriage with mechanized advance, engaged after detection of the presence of the blade.
The varnishing operation of the blade is followed by degassing carried out on the plate supported by the aforementioned carriage.
Then, the grouped blades are placed in an oven, where they are subjected to cooking, for a period of approximately 15 minutes.
After cooking, the blades are extracted from the oven and completely cooled. The sublimation operation can then take place. For this purpose, the blades are placed on a thermo-printing press, and covered with sublimation paper, previously printed with a predefined decoration. The pressure and the temperature applied in the press ensure the transfer in gaseous phase of the ink, from the paper to the varnish previously deposited on the scissor blades. Following this sublimation operation, the blades are again cooled, to be made manipulable. These decorated blades are then ready for the final operation of overmolding the rings.
It is thus possible to decorate the scissor blades, in particular on their outer faces, with a pattern of a single color or multicolor, the pattern being geometric or arbitrary.
The single figure of the accompanying drawing shows, in perspective, a pair of scissors, the metal blades 2 and 3 of which are decorated externally by the method of the invention, before the overmolding of their respective rings 4 and 5, and their assembly articulated by a axis 6. The decorative marking, affixed by sublimation on the external faces of the two blades 2 and 3, here consists of colored areas such as those designated by the references 7 and 8, of distinct colors and of varied shapes.
It will be noted that the decorative effect obtained can be reinforced by the deposition of successive layers, by creating a visual effect of "Chinese lacquer", which can only be provided by the sublimation process, as described above.
Of course, the invention is not limited to the only mode of implementation of this decoration process which has been described above, within the framework of a particular application. On the contrary, it embraces all the variants respecting the same principle, whatever the details of the varnishing step in particular, whatever the nature and the material of the objects or surfaces to be decorated, and whatever the colors, extent and appearance of the markings made. In particular, the markings can be purely decorative, or include inscriptions or signs. These markings can be envisaged on the entire surface of an object, or only on a part of said surface.
Ainsi, le procédé de l'invention est applicable à la décoration ou au marquage des objets ou articles suivants :Thus, the method of the invention is applicable to the decoration or the marking of the following objects or articles:
- autres parties des ciseaux, en particulier leurs anneaux ;- other parts of the scissors, in particular their rings;
- cutters, avec décoration du corps et/ou des lames, le marquage pouvant ici comporter des décorations colorées et aussi une mention de sécurité ;- cutters, with decoration of the body and / or blades, the marking can here include colored decorations and also a safety notice;
