  • a proportion of the exhaust gas is led from the exhaust system into the body of a heat exchanger through which liquid coolant from the engine is passed in order to cool the exhaust gases which then pass out of the body of the heat exchanger through an outlet connection.
  • the cooled exhaust gases pass, possibly via a linking tube, into the inlet connection of a separate flow control valve having an outlet connection which communicates via another tube with the air intake manifold of the engine.
  • the flow control valve is controlled by the engine management system to give the required amount of exhaust gas recirculation depending upon the amount of NO x being produced under the prevailing engine conditions.
  • the housing comprises a second chamber in which the adjustable flow control valve member is mounted, the second chamber communicating with the first chamber so that the exhaust gas flow passage extends through these chambers.

Abstract

L'invention concerne un système de recyclage de gaz d'échappement pour moteur à combustion interne, qui comporte un corps (10) contenant un passage de flux de gaz d'échappement. Le corps (10) est conçu pour être monté directement sur le moteur à combustion interne. Un élément (40) de soupape de commande de flux réglable est monté dans une chambre (20) du corps (10) pour régler le flux de gaz d'échappement traversant le passage. Un échangeur thermique (42) de gaz d'échappement est monté dans une chambre (16) du corps (10) de façon à permettre, à l'utilisation, aux gaz d'échappement recyclés de traverser l'échangeur thermique (42). Un passage d'écoulement d'agent de refroidissement prévu sert à faire passer un agent de refroidissement dans l'échangeur thermique (42) pour refroidir les gaz d'échappement s'écoulant, à l'utilisation, à travers celui-ci. Des connexions (68 et 26) d'entrée et de sortie de gaz d'échappement communiquent avec le passage d'écoulement de gaz d'échappement du corps (10) et peuvent être connectés, respectivement, à un système de gaz d'échappement et à un système d'admission d'air de combustion du moteur à combustion interne.
