Definitions

  • This invention refers to a cerebral aneurysm clip that consists of head, neck and two jaws.
  • Cerebral aneurysm clips of this type are often been used for clipping aneurysms after subarrachnoid hemorrahage. With the existing clips a number of recurrences have been observed mainly due to the slipping of the clips.
  • the advantage of this invention is the new shape of the jaws of the clip that contributes to greater stability, thus miiumizing the possibility of slippage.
  • the cerebral aneurysm clip is characterized by the fact that the two lateral sides of the lower jaw have a small edge, creating in this way a small compartment where the upper jaw can directly fit in.
  • the upper jaw is constructed so that its two lateral sides are slightly bended so that when the clip is closed the upper and the lower jaw come into complete contact. In this way the closure of the jaws gives to the clip greater stability and mmimizes the risk of any clip movement.
  • Figure 1 shows the aneurysm clip with the two jaws opened.
  • Figure 2 shows the aneurysm clip with the two jaws closed.
  • Figure 3 shows the upper jaw of the clip with its two lateral sides forming an acute angle with the upper surface of the upper jaw and an obtuse angle with the lower surface of the upper jaw.
  • Figure 4 shows the lower jaw of the aneurysm clip bearing on its two lateral sides a small edge that forms an acute angle with the upper and the lower surface of the lower jaw.
  • Figure 5 shows the upper and the lower jaws open.
  • Figure 6 shows the clip being partially closed.
  • FIG. 7 shows the clip being completely closed.
  • the cerebral aneurysm clip (fig. 1, fig. 2) consists of a round spiral head (1), neck (2), and two jaws (3).
  • the upper jaw (fig.3) has smooth upper surface (1).
  • the two lateral sides (2) of the upper jaw are rounded to avoid tearing of the aneurysm wall and they form an acute angle with the upper surface of the upper jaw (1) and an obtuse angle with the lower surface (3) of the upper jaw.
  • the lower jaw (fig. 4) has an upper surface (1) and a smooth lower surface (2).
  • the two lateral sides of the lower jaw (3) have a small rounded edge (4) that forms an obtuse angle with the upper (1) and the lower (2) surfaces of the lower jaw. This rounded edge creates a compartment where the upper jaw directly fits in.
  • the obtuse angle that is formed by the edge of the lateral sides of the lower jaw (fig.4) (4) with the upper (1) and lower (2) surfaces of the lower jaw is equal to the angle formed by the lateral surfaces of the upper jaw (fig.3) (2) with the lower surface (3) of the upper jaw.
  • the rounded edge of the lateral surfaces of the lower jaw that forms an obtuse angle with the upper and lower surface of the lower jaw and the construction of the upper jaw wth the rounded sides and the slightly bended lateral surfaces, contributes to greater stability of the cerebral aneurysm clip by not allowing the forward movement of the clip and the slipping of the clip on the neck of the aneurysm.
