, provided with suitably shaped and located recesses and slots, and being intended to be partly bent after the twine has been attached to it.

This improved twine lock is illustrated diagrammatically and by way of example on the accompanying drawmg on which Figure 1 is a plan of a punched-out sheet-metal piece in its ordinary state, i. e. prior to use; Figure 2 is a perspective illustration of a parcel around which twine is wound, the ends of which are fastened by said twine lock; Figure 3 is a side-view of the lock in partly bent state, Figure 4 is a plan of the lock in its final state, Figure 5 is a perspective view of a modified lock, Figure 6 shows also a modification, and Figure 7 is a sectional view of the device as shown in Figure 4, all as fully described hereinafter.

On the drawing, a (Fig. 1) denotes the body of the lock which consists of sheetmetal and is provided with a lateral recess a, two oppositely located lateral recesses b a tongue (1 located at one end of the body a,

and a slot whichis located in the other end of the body and from which extends upwardly. (Fig. 1) a tongue e. The recesses b are of angular shape, as shown, and form, therefore two tongues 11, which also are bent slightly upwards, as shown in Fig.

In this gure the tongue d is bent in the direction to the tongue e and forms a hook d, and the end-piece a of the body a is bent upwardly so that the tongue e is directed downwardly.

One end of the twine to be wound around the parcel is formed into a knot 21 (Fig. 2) v which is placed into the recess a Preferably already prior thereto the body piece a has been bent in the direction to the tongue (1, or to the hook d respectively, in the manner shown in Fig.3. The twine i is now wound around the parcel is for instance in the manner shown in Fig. 2, and the other end of the twine is then wound around the neck a located between the body 5 a and the end-piece a, also as shown in Fig. 2. This having been accomplished, the end piece a is bent over upon the middle portion of the body, and the hook d is introduced into theslot' forming the tongue 6, this latter andsaid hook then engaging one another, whereby the closure is finished, as illustrated in Fig. 4. The dotted line 0 in Fig. 2 indicates the bending line for the metal piece a.

In the modification shown in Fig. 5 there aretwo recesses (1 instead of only one so that the twine knot can be placed into the one or the other of these recesses, and between these recesses is a slot a by which the bending of the metal piece a is facilitated. Another such slot is provided between the recesses 6 and finally lugs f are provided which form grips for facilitating bending the metal piece a) over and down upon the middle portion of the body,'as has been described with respect to Figs. 1-4.

. I claim:

1. A twine seal for use in connection with parcels and the like, consisting of a piece of bendable material, of which the ends are adapted to be bent over upon the middle portion into cooperative'relation, said piece having a slot with a tongue in it in that end which is to be bent first, as well as a lateral recess adapted to receive a twine knot and indicating the bending line, and having further two oppositely located angular twine receiving recesses between the other end and the middle portion of the said sheet-metal piece, these recesses being adapted to receive the other end of the twine, substantially as set forth.

2. A twine seal for use in connection with parcels and the like, consisting of a punched out piece of bendable material, of which the ends are adaptedto be bent over upon the middle portion vinto cooperative relation, said piece'having a transverse slot with a tongue in it in that end which is to bebent first, as well as a lateral recess adapted to receive a twine knot and indicating the bending line for this end ofthe sheet-metal piece, and having, besides, two oppositely located rectangular twine receiving recesses between the other end of thesaid piece and the mid- Besides, lateral ledges it are provided near the hooksg;

3. Atwine seal for use in connection with parcels and the like, consisting of a punchedout iece of sheet-metal, of which first one end 1s to be bent over upon the middle portion and then the other end is adapted to be bent over uponsaid first end, into interlocking engagement, said piece having a transverse slot with a slightly outwardly bent tongue in it in that end which is to be bent first, as well as a lateral recess adapted to receive a twine knot, and having, besides, two oppositely located angular slots extending into that end which is to be bent in the second place, these slots being adapted to receive windings formed of the other end of the twine, substantially as set forth.

4. A twine lock for use in connection with parcels and the like, consisting of a piece of sheet-metal, of which two oppositely located parts are adapted to be bent over upon the middle part, one of the end parts having a slot with a tongue in it and the other having a tongue adapted to serve as grip when bending this part, and to engage the slot o,f=

.the first-mentioned end part; this latter having a lateral recess adapted to receive a twine knot, and the other end part having near the mlddle part angular recesses adapted to receive the other end of the twine, substantially as set forth.

5. A twine lock for use in connection with parcels and the like, consisting of a piece of sheet-metal having in one end a slot with a slightly outwardly bent tongue in it, and near it a lateral recess adapted to receive a twine knot, and having at its other end two angular slots located in the sides of said sheet-metal piece, these slots forming between them a neck around which the other end of the twine can be wbund; a bent memberat the free end of the neighbouring end part and adapted to engage the first-mentioned slot after the first mentioned end part has been bent over and upon the middle part and the other end part has been bent over and down upon the first, substantially as set forth.

6. .A twine seal comprising a strip of bendable material having a main body portion, and opposite end portions adapted to be bent over said main portion, each of said end portions being provided with means for engaging an end of twine, and means on the said opposite end portions for locking said seal end portions in position when bent over said main portion.
