Definitions
- the present invention relates to an identification card for receiving functional modules, for example microchips, according to the preamble of claim 1.
- identification cards are used in various ways as credit cards, ID cards or the like.
- ID cards have the disadvantage, however, that they can only be used for one function at a time, for example only as an ID card or only as a telephone card. If a larger number of functions can be carried out, the user must carry a large number of cards with him, which is space-consuming and confusing.
- the FR 2 628 867 AI can be removed from an ID card on which several function modules are slidably arranged.
- the function module that is to communicate with a reading device must be moved to a predetermined location on the card.
- Each function module has a number of contacts.
- ID cards with removable and interchangeable chips can be found in DE 38 04 361 Cl and US Pat. No. 4,511,796 AI.
- the removable chips each have a contact area.
- a chip card with several chips each having contact fields can be found in DE 197 04 955 AI. Due to the location of the contact fields, only readers can be used which have correspondingly arranged contact fields.
- the task is to develop an identification card with which a large number of mutually independent functions can be carried out in a simple manner without the user having to agree to a function module.
- the present invention is based on the idea of designing a standard identification card as a “chip wallet” for storing and transporting functional modules. This reduces the number of required identification cards and allows the individual functional modules to be used and managed independently of one another.
- Fig. 1 is an ID card with lateral holding devices
- FIG. 2 shows a variant of the identification card according to FIG. 1.
- ID card is understood here to mean a card which can be inserted as a means of identification or classification, as proof of authorization or as a means of payment for insertion into a reading device of an administrative or security system.
- functional element 5 is understood to mean any information carrier that can be attached to an identification card 1, such as, for. B. electronic chips, magnetic strips, optocouplers, transducers, barcodes, holograms etc.
- a functional element 5 mentioned here can also be a device for data transmission between the reader and card or between different functional elements 5 with one another.
- Function module 2 is understood to mean a structural unit which consists of a functional element 5 and an element carrier 13. However, it is also possible that the functional module 2 only consists of the functional element itself.
- FIG. 1 shows an identification card 1. It has a central query position 3 on one side. A functional module 2 can be attached to this.
- the ID card 1 also has lateral stopping places 10, at which further functional modules 2 are attached. For example, dovetail connections, slide-in rails with a tongue and groove connection, double-acting adhesive strips, Velcro fasteners, clamps, snap fasteners or the like are conceivable as fastening devices at the interrogation position 3 and the stopping places 10 for releasably holding the functional modules 2.
- a guide device for correct positioning of the functional modules 2 on the identity card 1, it is advantageous to provide a guide device, not shown. This can consist, for example, of a depression in the map, side elevations or guide rails on the edges of the query position 3 and the holding positions 10.
- the ID card 1 is inserted in a conventional manner into a reading device, where a reading head queries the information in the functional element 2, which is located at the query position 3.
- FIG. 2 shows the identity card 1 with stopping places 10 and an interrogation position 3.
- the stopping places 10 are connected to contacts 11 at the interrogation position 3 via contact lines 9.
- the stopping places 10 are equipped with fastening devices.
- the required functional modules 2 can be inserted into the stopping places 10 and replaced by another functional module if one functional module becomes invalid.
- To use the card it is not necessary to manually select a required function module 2.
- the card is simply inserted into the reading device like a conventional identification card. All function modules 2 can contact the reading device simultaneously via the contact fields 11. Via electronic coding, the selection of the corresponding module is carried out automatically by interaction between the reading device and the card, which can be done via the function module 2 used in the query position 3.
- An additional increase in the waiting and query positions can be achieved by arranging waiting and query positions on both sides of the front and back of the ID card. This can double the capacity of the card.
- the transmission of the signals between the card and the reader / writer can also be achieved in that one or more non-contact signal transmission devices (e.g. transducer antennas or opto-couplers) connect individual or all functional modules take over the card.
- one or more non-contact signal transmission devices e.g. transducer antennas or opto-couplers
- the non-contact signal transmission device is firmly integrated in the ID card d. H. attached in the form of a special function module 2 at the query position 3 on the card.
- a connection of the function modules for data exchange with one another can take place on conventional lines 9.
- This arrangement makes it unnecessary to remove the functional modules 2 from the card 1 for the purpose of selecting the functions.
- both the carrier card and the functional modules are individualized by for example, the name of the authorized user is stored in some form.
- the identification card is provided with a permanently connected marking element.
- This marking element can be, for example, a hologram or a cast-in microchip. Barcodes or other known information carriers are also suitable.
- each function module is individually identified by the storage of the authorized user.
- This storage can either be in the actual functional element, e.g. in the form of a software sequence in a microchip or in a separate marking element on the function module, e.g. in the form of a separate hologram or a second microchip.
- the identity of the ID card owner and that of the function module owner are first checked. If the two match, the desired function, e.g. withdrawing money, released. If the two owners do not match, the desired function cannot be carried out.
- This security function serves as protection against theft and as security when losing function modules.
