Abstract

Cet appareil consiste en une lampe (10) remplie de gaz et émettant des ultraviolets que l'on utilise dans un purificateur de liquides. Cette lampe (10) est alimentée par une source de haute tension en CA, mais ne possède aucune électrode métallique qui soit à l'intérieur ou en contact avec l'enceinte du gaz. Cette enceinte se compose de deux cylindres de quartz concentriques (16, 20) qui sont scellés l'un à l'autre à leurs extrémités, le gaz remplissant l'espace entre les cylindres. Un liquide de refroidissement est pompé à travers le volume (14) défini par l'intérieur du cylindre de quartz interne (16), tandis qu'un tube conducteur d'électricité (12) espacé du cylindre interne (16) assure l'apport du liquide de refroidissement et joue le rôle d'une électrode à haute tension. L'enceinte de gaz (18) est entourée d'un boîtier métallique (28) duquel elle est espacée. Ce boîtier, qui est connecté de manière à jouer le rôle de l'électrode de mise à la masse du circuit, est traversé par le fluide en écoulement que l'on traite. Le circuit électrique commence donc au tube central (12), passe par le liquide de refroidissement, l'enceinte de gaz (18) ainsi que le liquide traité à l'extérieur du cylindre de quartz externe (20), et s'étend jusqu'au boîtier (28). L'électrode à haute tension (12) est isolée électriquement de la source du liquide de refroidissement par une longueur de tuyau isolé qui assure également l'alimentation en liquide de refroidissement.
