Definitions
- the invention relates to an arrangement for supplying a supply voltage to a male connector arranged on a connecting rear wall of a subrack according to the preamble of claim 1.
- the voltage and polarity of the supply voltages are predetermined by the power supply devices used and the pin assignment by the conductor track on the connection rear wall.
- High-tech electrical devices in particular computer systems, are expected, inter alia, to be able to use different processor generations or families during their lifetime. Different supply voltages are sometimes required for these, while other plug-in modules housed in the rack, such as peripheral driver or interface cards for the operation of the device in one Data network continue to be used and accordingly continue to require their supply voltages.
- a subrack is known in which the male connectors are fastened to a backplane and contain pins which protrude through holes in the backplane. The ends of the pins projecting beyond the latter are surrounded by guide frames for female connectors. Connectors in the female connector format connected to the cable are inserted into these guide frames.
- the object of the invention is to provide an arrangement for supplying a supply voltage to a male connector arranged on the insertion side of a connection rear wall of a subrack, which is independent of the conductor routing of the connection rear wall.
- the invention is based on the consideration that one can operate plug-in modules with a wide variety of requirements for the voltage supply even in a subrack with a connection rear wall constructed according to the bus principle if the male connector has a multiplicity of pins, a first subset of the pins having is connected to the signal lines or additionally to a system power supply, and a second subset of the pins protrude so far through the connection rear wall that a plug-in card carrying a female connector, here a voltage transfer card, can be plugged onto it, which in turn has at least one Busbar is connected.
- a subrack with a connection rear wall constructed according to the bus principle is to be understood here that the male connectors of a large number of slots are assigned the same signal and voltage, so that a plug-in group can be arranged at any slot.
- Plug-in modules equipped according to the bus system used only use the pins of the first subset and leave free the pins belonging to the second subset.
- the pins of the second subset are reserved for supplying special voltages to a plug-in module, which of course has to carry an appropriately assigned female connector.
- the number of different voltages and the number of pins connected in parallel for a voltage, depending on the current load, are optional.
- the electrical energy to be supplied to a plug-in module designed in this way is taken from the at least one busbar and adapted to the requirements of the plug-in module on the voltage transfer card.
- a voltage converter can be arranged on the voltage transfer card, or also an inrush current limiter circuit for plug-in modules that are to be changed during operation of the electronic system, or both in combination. This supply voltage is passed from the voltage transfer card to the plug-in module via pins of the second subset.
- the division of the pins into the two pin subsets is to be made particularly clear when the male connector has a plurality of rows of pins, the pins belonging to at least one row of pins of the second subset.
- the pairing of a plug-in module and a voltage transfer card is possible in a particularly simple manner in that the pins of a male connector belonging to the second subset are free of connections which lead to pins of another male connector on the connecting rear wall.
- a guide frame for a female connector attached to the voltage transfer card is advantageously attached to the pin ends projecting through the connecting rear wall. This makes it particularly easy to plug the voltage transfer card into the correct position on the connection rear wall.
- the voltage transfer card is provided with a mechanical location coding and the plug-in module is provided with a complementary coding.
- the space coding is formed by coding pins arranged in a predetermined coding scheme, which protrude through openings in the rear wall of the connection into coding holes of the complementary coding. This ensures that a plug-in module can only be brought together with a voltage transfer card assigned to it.
- FIG. 1 is a perspective view of the rear of a module rack in a schematic representation
- FIG. 2 shows a section through the subrack along a plane II -II in FIG. 1.
- a subrack 10 is schematically shown with a front-open receiving space 12 for plug-in modules 14 and a rear space 16.
- a connecting rear wall 18 is installed between the receiving space 12 and the rear space 16.
- the male connectors 20 are connected to one another by a bus system 22 which is formed from a multiplicity of conductor tracks 24 (only three are shown as examples).
- a guide frame 26 is arranged opposite the male connectors 20 on the side of the connecting rear wall 18 facing the rear space 16, which is used to receive a first female connector 30 attached to a voltage transfer card 28 (FIG ) serves.
- the voltage transfer card 28 is provided with a large-area connection 32 at its edge opposite the first female connector 30. This serves for the electrical connection and the mechanical fastening of a connecting bar 34, the other end of which is attached to a bus bar 36 which runs parallel to the connecting rear wall 18 and carries a system supply voltage.
- the system is also connected to the busbar 36 via a further conductor track 24 '. Supply voltage leading contact 25 of the male connector 20 connected.
- busbar package with a number of individual busbars corresponding to the number of different supply voltages.
- a voltage taken from the busbar 36 is fed to a voltage converter circuit 38 arranged on the voltage transfer card 28 and shown only symbolically. This is capable of converting the voltage carried on the busbar into a higher or lower voltage value, as is required by the plug-in module 14 opposite the voltage transfer card 28.
- the output of the voltage converter circuit 38 is routed to the first female connector 30.
- connection rear wall 18 is penetrated by a number of contact holes 42 corresponding to the number of contacts of the male connector 20, into which the pins 40 the male connector 20 are soldered. But you can also be welded or pressed.
- the pins 40 are arranged in four rows A, B, C, D, these rows of pins lying one above the other, that is to say only the row of pins located at the top is visible.
- the pins of the rows C and D form a first subset of the pins 40 and to which the conductor tracks 24, 24 ′ of the bus system 22 that carry the signals and system supply voltages are connected. This Pins on the soldering side of the male connector 20 are only so long that they do not protrude beyond the area of the connecting rear wall 18 facing the rear space 16.
- the pins of the rows A and B form a second subset of the pins 40. These pins are free from connections to any further conductive tracks. They protrude beyond the surface of the connecting rear wall 18 facing the rear space 16 to such an extent that the guide frame 26 can be plugged onto them and they form rows of pins A ′ and B 1 therein. This creates on the side of the connection rear wall 18 facing the rear space 16 a connector of the type of a male connector. The voltage transfer card 28 with its first female connector 30 can then be plugged onto this. The supply voltages supplied by the voltage transfer card 28 are taken from the rows of pins A and B by corresponding spring contacts of a second female connector 54 attached to the plug-in module 14.
- the voltage transfer card 28 is provided with a mechanical location code 44 and the plug-in module 14 with a complementary code 46.
- the space coding 44 is formed by coding pins 48 arranged in a predetermined coding scheme, which protrude through openings 50 in the connection rear wall 18 into coding holes 52 of the complementary coding 46. This ensures that a plug-in module 14 can only be brought together with a voltage transfer card 28 assigned to it.
- a plug-in module which is operated exclusively on the system power supply, does not require coding, since it does not occupy pin rows A and B. Even if it were plugged into a male connector 20, on whose pins 40 belonging to the rows A and / or B a voltage transfer card 28 is plugged in, this plug-in module could not be damaged.
- the contact bores 56, 56 ', into which the soldering skewers of the contacts of the first and second female connectors, which are not shown, are shown 30, 54 are used, designated A ', B' or A, B, C, D.
