- a further problem is that, especially in the area of floor coverings, it is often desired to obtain several different colors from a design in the sense of a color series, which ideally are still are combinable. With these requirements, of course, the problems mentioned above in the production of color separations are exacerbated. Because each color separation in the special color space is selected according to the optical color impressions and processed until the closest possible approximation to the design is available. The special colors must be interchangeable with the respective color separations (color series creation), and an operational and material-related register difference must be possible (e.g. a 400 cm wide web moves uncontrollably lengthways and sideways due to material distortion, thickness differences, etc.). The empirically drawn special colors often result in unpredictable overlays when printing on the surface, which lead to images in the surface.

This creates at least fifty kilograms of residual ink for a fabric width of 400 cm per inking unit, which must be filled and stored for further processing.
