Definitions
- the invention concerns propaedeutic sports equipment for sport generally and for training.
- ski-ing the movements for proper execution of curves with parallel skis, in deep snow and off the prepared tracks, comprise those known as anticipating, starting and controlling a substantially 180° curve and needed to avoid excessive strain on knee ligaments especially when ski-ing in deep and in wet snow.
- Subject of the invention is an apparatus for preliminary gymnastics for ski-ers and for training.
- the apparatus comprises a platform, on which to stand the feet, translating freely in relation to a horizontal base and remaining parallel to said base both round a central geometric axis and along an arc of a circle between two stopping pegs placed at its ends.
- the platform To carry out this movement the platform must overcome resistance set up by mechanical means that tend to return it to the middle of said arc.
- the platform for the feet is supported by a rotation joint at the end of a horizontal arm supported by the base, with another rotation joint at the other end. These joints allow the platform to rotate freely on its own axis and also the arm in relation to the base.
- the foot plaform is discoid in shape.
- the foot platform consists of two plates set side by side, one plate for each foot, each supported by rotation joints at the end of the arm so that said plates can assume independent angles on their respective joints.
- the means for return movement consist of a pair of trac ⁇ tion return springs.
- One spring is connected between a hook on the arm close to the rotation joint on the base and another hook fixed to said base placed towards the foot platform substantially on the central axis of the arc of a circle described by the foot platform.
- the other spring connects an extension of the arm beyond its centre of rotation in line with said arm to a second hook fixed to the base on the side opposite the foot plat ⁇ form remaining on the central axis of the arc of a circle described by the foot platform.
- the end stops are pegs and similar placed on the base on each side of the axis of symmetry of the arc of a circle followed by the foot platform.
- Hand supports are two independent rods or a horizontal bar fixed to uprights.
- the distance between the foot platform joint and rotation joint for the arm on the base can be adjusted.
- the foot platform can have partial or to ⁇ tal braking means for rotation while the arm can have si ⁇ milar means for translation.
- Fig.1 The apparatus in its starting position with the foot platform on the horizontal geometrical axis of the apparatus and with a substantially orthogonal orientation of said axis towards the right.
- Fig.2 The foot platform has made its maximum translation towards the right and the first 90° of rotation on its own axis towards the left.
- Fig.3 The foot platform has made its return translation on the axis of the apparatus and has completed its 180° rotation towards the left.
- Fig. The foot platform has completed its maximum trans ⁇ lation towards the left and the first 90° rotation around its own axis towards the right.
- the apparatus presents a base 10 on which is vertically fixed an orthogonal pin 11 in a substantially central position To this pin one end of a horizontal oscillating arm 15 is connected by means of a rotation joint 12. Fixed to the other, free, end of the arm is a rotation joint 16 to support the foot platform 18-19 placed above it. Starting from its axial position in Fig.1, the arm can ro- tate for about 90° to the left and right, moving as far as the positions marked by pegs 20 and 21.
- a first traction return spring 22 is joined to a front hook 23 on the base, on its geometrical axis, and to a hook 24 on the front extension 25 out from the arm 15.
- a second traction return spring 30 is joined to a rear hook 31 on the base, on its geometrical axis, and to a hook 32 fixed to the arm near its rotation pin 11.
- the foot platform 18-19 can rotate freely on its joint 16.
- the distance between the joint 12 on the arm 15 and joint 16 on the foot platform 18-19, as well as tension of springs 22,30, can be adjusted as desired by devices not shown in the drawings for simplicity.
- Number 35 indicates the hand rest bar on uprights 36.
- a number of coordinated movements must be made, these being commonly referred to as movements of an- ticipation, starting and control of the curve.
- the apparatus functions by coordinated action of these two movements permitting curves to be made for the full half circle of 180°. This is done by exploitation of combined action of the two movements of rotation simultaneously ap- plied to the arm and to the foot platform above it.
- the legs must then be immediately straightened and while doing this the learner will note that legs and feet spon ⁇ taneously return in line with the body position causing the foot platform to rotate and translate, thus beginning the curve .
- the learner can then control the entire curve by simply straightening up the legs slowly and gradually.
- the thrust exerted by the legs while straightening causes the arm 15 to move until it reaches the lateral position in Fig. 2 while simultaneous rotation of the legs will cause the foot platform to rotate round its own axis so as to carry out the first 90° of the curve leftwards.
- a dynamic movement is set up which is substantially similar to the winding line followed by skis on snow.
- Simulated curves can be wider or narrower by altering the length of time taken to straighten out the legs. The slower this is done the slower will the legs rotate and therefore the radius of the simulated curve will also be greater. If leg straightening is done quickly the simulated curve radius will be smaller, just as happens with real ski-ing.
- One of the most frequent causes of leg fractures by begin- ners is that of suddenly forcing foot rotation without first making the anticipatory curve movement which happens when they do not know how it should be done.
- the great propaedeutic value of this apparatus lies partly in the fact that it functions correctly only if the anti- cipatory curving movement is made, thereby obliging the beginner to learn this important stage in the movements.
