Abstract

Sorter or file for letters to be signed, comprised of the assembly of a certain number of sheets (11) presenting each a recto page (12) and a verso (12'), of the type wherein each sheet comprises at least one document retention means, said means consisting of a retention butt (13, 14) formed of a folded band which is partially adhered to an edge of said sheet, characterized in that said retention butt (13, 14) is made by grooving said sheet (11) in parallel to one of its edges and at a certain distance from said edge, the portion of said sheet comprised between its free edge and the grooving forms the retention butt (13, 14); said retention butt (13, 14) is folded against one of the sides of the same sheet (11) and adhered partially against said side along a narrow band (18, 19) adjacent to the fold (15) delimiting said sheet and said retention butt (13, 14); the non-adhered portion of the retention butt (13, 14) which is comprised between the adhered portion (18, 19) and the free external edge of the butt (13, 14) forms with the sheet (11) from which it originates, the retention means.

Description

PARAPHEU R OR SORTER WITH MULTIPLE RETENTION TABS

The present invention relates to the initials and sorters which are widely used, in particular for the presentation of successive documents with a view to their signature.

Currently, traditional initials or sorters are generally made from rectangular folders made of strong paper, cardboard, blotting paper or the like, each having received in the center a crease fold, extending over its entire height. On each side of this central crease fold, a lateral crease fold is produced in parallel. All of these three folds are provided to ensure the extension of the folder when it is more or less stocked with documents. These shirts are then assembled by laminating one on the other so as to constitute a block of sheets comprising as many compartments as there will have been used shirts for its production.

When laminating these shirts, to create these sheets, we avoid putting glue on the part of each shirt between the central crease fold and the side crease folds.

These blocks of shirts being produced, it is possible to reinforce the back of these blocks by affixing to it a canvas known as "back canvas", which is laminated on all of the backs of the shirts, that is to say in fact on the part of each shirt between the two lateral creasing folds, part not having received glue for the constitution of the blocks. A cover is then laminated on the first sheet forming the top of the block, and another on the last sheet of the same block.

The disadvantage of these traditional initials is that they have no means of retaining the documents placed there, which means that most of the time it is necessary to keep each document on the corresponding sheet by means of a paper clip.

To overcome this drawback, it has been described in French Patent N ° 84.00549 and in its Certificate of Addition N ° 84.15578 an improvement to this type of signature book, this improvement residing in the particularity that said signature book contains, along the inner edge of each sheet, a longitudinal retention tab, coming from the sheet on which it depends, and partially laminated on the next sheet, thus allowing the insertion of the document to be signed to prevent it, by pinching, from escaping when the 'we turn the successive sheets, without hampering the signature.

This retention tab is defined by creasing said sheet parallel to its internal edge and at a certain distance from this edge, the part of said sheet lying between its free edge and the partially glued part constituting said retention tab. The realization of such initials is also done by constitution of a

"block", by partial bonding of each retention tab from each sheet on the next sheet, then opening this block and flattening the folds joining each sheet to the retention tab that corresponds to it, then laying the canvas of the back and finally folding of the whole. This realization of such initials, even facilitated by appropriate tools, involves a skilled workforce devoting a relatively long time to positioning and positioning, and assembly by gluing, the back still flat on the sheets successive, with their folds. The present invention eliminates this drawback.

To this end, each sheet comprising as previously a retention tab constituted by the part of said sheet lying between its free edge and a creasing made parallel to its internal edge and at a certain distance from this internal edge, said retention tab is folded against one of the faces of the same sheet and partially glued against said face along a narrow band adjacent to the fold delimiting the sheet and the retention tab, the unglued portion of said retention tab, between the glued part and the free outer edge of the retention tab, constituting with said sheet from which it is derived means of retention of documents presented on said sheet.

Various variants of the invention can be devised. Thus, the retention tab can be folded and partially glued either on the front or on the back of the sheet from which it comes.

Furthermore, each sheet may include either a single retention tab, or at least two retention tabs distributed over several of its edges, for example two retention tabs formed on two opposite parallel edges.

In the latter case, according to a preferred embodiment, one of the retention tabs is formed by partial bonding on the front of said sheet and the other retention tab is formed by partial bonding on the back of the same sheet, said sheet with its two retention tabs in the shape of a Z, and having a retention tab on each side, the opening of the signature book on any page therefore offering the user two retention tabs, namely one on the outer longitudinal edge of the left page and the other on the inner longitudinal edge of the right page.

According to another alternative embodiment, each sheet has four retention tabs distributed over its two pairs of parallel edges. In such a case, each retention tab of each couple is folded and glued partially, one on the front, and the other on the back of the sheet, which implies that the retention tabs of a couple are notched where they would overlap the other couple's retention tabs.

As a preferable means which can be used to bring together and immobilize all of the sheets with retention tabs for a signature book, it is provided, according to a first embodiment of the invention, to operate by inserting and gluing each sheet with its its retention tabs in each fold of a canvas accordion forming the back and created in advance.

According to another means usable for the same purposes, each sheet with its retention tab (s) is perforated along its inner edge, all of said sheets being joined by a ring binding system. made of metal or plastic, or a helical or integral binding, or a plastic rod with rings, or any other similar or equivalent means.

The particularities which have just been mentioned, as well as others, will appear in the following description, corresponding to the appended drawing in which:

Referring first to Figures 1 and 2, we see that, in accordance with the prior art recalled above, each of the sheets F-,, F ₂ , F ₃ ..., Fn constituting the initializer has a grooving central R- | , R ₂ , ..., R _n , and two lateral grooves R'- | , R ' ₂ R' _n and R "ι, R" ₂ , ..., R " _n . A retention tab Tj, T, ..., T _n being formed on each sheet by the part of said sheet included between its free edge Lj, L ₂ , L ₃ ..., L _n and the lateral creasing R "- _] , R", R " _3ι ..., R" _n , each of these retention tabs being partially glued along a narrow inner band B- ₎ , B ₂ , B _n on the front of the next sheet.

The manufacturing of a signature screen according to the prior art therefore consisted, in a first operation, in superimposing the desired number of sheets F, by partially gluing the internal strip B of each tab T on the following page. To reunite the block thus formed, the next operation consisted in opening and distending this block, with a view to flattening all of the folds defined by the three grooves R, R ', R ", and sticking to the outside. of these folds back D. We then folded the whole. It is clear that this set of operations involves a skilled workforce, devoting a relatively long time to it.

To eliminate this drawback, the invention consists in making each sheet beforehand with a partial bonding with its retention tab and in introducing this sheet into one of the folds of a back which is also made in accordion form. This is illustrated in Figures 3 and 4, on which we have designated by the general reference 1 each sheet, on the front page 2 which is folded along a crease the retention tab 3, partially glued along a narrow strip 4 against said corresponding front page 2. Each sheet 1 comprising its retention tab 3 is then introduced individually inside a fold 5 of an accordion back 6, so that the initialing is already completed with its back when all the sheets have been combined and this back. If the back 6 used for the operation proves to be too fragile, it is easy to strengthen it and stiffen it. This embodiment of a signature book with a retention tab from each sheet can receive several variants, which are illustrated in FIGS. 5, 6 and 7, and which can include several retention tabs, longitudinal and / or transverse, but which in all the cases result from the folding of a sheet on itself and partial gluing of each retention tab on the front and / or back of the same sheet. Thus, all combinations of these variants fall within the scope of the invention, as defined in the claims.

Thus, if we refer first to FIG. 5, it can be seen that each sheet 11 constituting the initialing device according to the invention is folded into a Z, a form called "slate hook", along its two opposite longitudinal edges 15 and 16, to create, on the one hand two pages, respectively front 12 and back 12 ', and on the other hand two retention tabs 13 and 14, folded in opposite directions, and partially glued each respectively along two narrow strips 18, 19 on each of these two pages 12 and 12 '. As already illustrated above by FIGS. 3 and 4 (in the non-folded state), FIG. 6 shows, in the folded state, the overall structure of an initializer according to the invention. In this structure, the sheets 11, once formed, are joined and inserted - all together but individually, in the folds of the accordion back 17 of the signature book, which can also be completed by two rigid covers 21, 22, the inner edge of each sheet 1 1 being glued at 20 over all or part of the length of the lower half-fold of each of said back folds 17, as shown; it would also be possible to glue on the upper half-fold of the back.

As illustrated in FIG. 7, in which the corresponding elements of the respectively right and left halves of the structure of a signature book according to the invention, represented in the open state on any page, are designated by the same reference numerals, but accompanied by a "'" for the left half which corresponds to the back of the corresponding sheet 1', each right page 12 is associated with a retention tab 13 on the inner edge of the sheet 1 1 from which it comes and which is partially glued to the front of said corresponding sheet 1 1, while each left page 12 'is also associated with a retention tab 13', located along the outer edge of the previous sheet 1 1 'which it is derived, and which is partially glued to the back of said sheet 1 1 '. Likewise, the retention tab 14 resulting from the backward folding of the right sheet 11 will be associated with the following back page, and the retention tab 14 'resulting from the rearward folding of the sheet 11' previous will be associated with the previous front page.

It is thus possible to have two documents per sheet in the initializer, each document being maintained independently of the other. According to an additional feature, subject to other individually optional variants of the invention and combined in Figure 7, each sheet 1 1, 11 'can also be folded along its transverse edges, to create pairs of retention tabs 110, 110 'and 1 11, 111' located at the bottom and at the top of each page 12, 12 ', it being understood that each of these horizontal retention tabs will have to be cut out, as illustrated by way of example in 1 12, 1 12 'and 1 13, 1 13' at the location and according to the width of the vertical retention tabs 13-13 'and 14-14' on which they would overlap. In this case, on each sheet, the signature book may present on its two pages up to four documents, maintained independently of each other.

As already indicated, and is clearly visible in FIG. 6, the folds of the back 17 position in advance the sheets 1 1 which are inserted therein, which facilitates the operations of mounting the initializer, eliminating the need for skilled labor, and shortening the time of assembly and consequently the cost price of the signature book. According to a preferred embodiment, the gluing of a sheet on a fold of the accordion is performed on the lower half-fold of said back.

Claims

1. Signature book or sorter, constituted by the assembly of a certain number of sheets each having a front page and a back page, of the type in which each sheet comprises at least one document retention means, this means being constituted by a retention tab formed by a folded strip partially glued to an edge of said sheet, characterized in that said retention tab being defined by creasing said sheet parallel to one of its edges and at a certain distance from this edge, the part of said sheet included between its free edge and the creasing constituting said retention tab, said retention tab is folded against one of the faces of the same sheet and partially glued against said face along a narrow strip close to the fold delimiting said sheet and said retention tab, the non-bonded portion of said retention tab, between the bonded part and the free outer edge of the tab, constituting with said sheet from which it comes the retention means.

2. Signature book according to claim 1, characterized in that said retention tab is folded and partially glued on the front page of the sheet from which it comes.

3. Paraphor according to claim 1, characterized in that said retention tab is folded and partially glued on the back page of the sheet from which it comes.

4. Paraphor according to claim 2 or 3, characterized in that each sheet has a unique retention tab.

5. Paraphor according to claim 2 or 3, characterized in that each sheet has at least two retention tabs distributed over several of its edges.

6. Paraphor according to claim 5, characterized in that each sheet has two retention tabs formed on two opposite parallel edges.

7. The initialing device as claimed in claim 6, characterized in that one of the retention tabs is formed by partial bonding on the front page of said sheet and the second tab is formed by partial bonding on the back page of the same sheet.

8. Paraphor according to any one of claims 5 to 7, characterized in that each sheet has four retention tabs distributed over the two pairs of parallel edges of the sheet.

Paraphor according to claim 8, characterized in that the sheet comprising two pairs of parallel retention tabs, each tab of each pair being folded and glued partially, one on the front page, and the other on the page back of the sheet, the tabs of one couple are indented where they would overlap the tabs of the other couple.

10. Paraphor according to any one of claims 1 to 9, characterized in that the means for assembling and immobilizing all of the sheets constituting the paraphor is an accordion back, created in advance, and in each of the folds of which is pasted one of said sheets.

Paraphor according to any one of claims 1 to 9, characterized in that the means used to bring together and immobilize all of the sheets constituting the paraphor is a ring binding made of metal or plastic, a helical or integral binding, or a plastic rod with rings crossing perforations made in one of the edges of each sheet.

12. A method for manufacturing an initializer or sorter according to any one of claims 1 to 10, characterized in that it consists in making each sheet beforehand with its retention tab (s) and the accordion back then inserting and individually glue each of these sheets into each fold of the accordion.

A method for manufacturing an initializer or sorter according to any one of claims 1 to 9 and 11, characterized in that it consists in making each sheet beforehand with its retention tab or tabs, in perforating it on the 'one of its edges and to bring together all the sheets constituting the initializer or sorter by means of a ring binder, a helical binding, an integral binding or a plastic ring rod.
