Abstract

A stationary product comprises a wallet(1) defining at least one pocket(7B,8B) to receive and retain papers, documents or the like. A plurality of lines(16) of mechanical weakness are provided adjacent one edge(15) of the wallet, each line of mechanical weakness being adapted to be broken to form a discrete region(17) which can be folded to project outwardly beyond the edge of the wallet to form an indexing tab(18).

Description

  • THE PRESENT INVENTION relates to a stationary product and more particularly relates to a wallet adapted to hold and retain papers.
  • According to this invention there is provided a stationary product comprising a wallet defining at least one pocket to receive and retain papers, documents or the like, there being a plurality of lines of mechanical weakness adjacent one edge of the wallet, each line of mechanical weakness being adapted to be broken to form a discrete region which can be folded to project outwardly beyond the edge of the wallet to form an indexing tab or the like.
  • Preferably the wallet comprises two portions each defining a pocket to receive documents, the two portions being hingedly interconnected.
  • Conveniently said lines of mechanical weakness are formed adjacent an edge of a part of the wallet remote from said hinged interconnection between the two pocket-forming portions.
  • Advantageously the wallet is punched to enable the wallet to be mounted in a ring binder or lever arch file or the like.
  • Conveniently each line of mechanical weakness is of semi-circular form.
  • Preferably the wallet is formed from light card or the like.
  • In order that the invention may be readily understood, and so that further features thereof may be appreciated, the invention will now be described, by way of example, with reference to the accompanying drawings in which:
    • FIGURE 1 is a perspective view of the wallet in accordance with the present invention when fully open, and
    • FIGURE 2 is a perspective view of a wallet in accordance with the invention when closed, from the rear.
  • A wallet 1 in accordance with the invention is fabricated from light card or other similar material. The wallet comprises two main pocket-forming parts 2, 3 interconnected by a web 4 which constitutes a hinge. Each pocket-forming part consists of a substantially rectangular sheet of card 5, 6, which forms an outer part of the wallet when it is in a folded condition, and the inner flap of card 7, 8 secured to the outer sheet of card by an appropriate hinge line 9, 10 and securing tabs 11, 12 formed integrally with the respective outer sheet and adhered to the inner flaps. Each inner flap effectively has a substantially diagonally extending cut dividing the inner flap into upper and lower triangular portions. The upper triangular portion 7A, 8A, is adhered to the adjacent outer sheet 5, 6, and the lower triangular portion 7B, 8B is not adhered, thus defining an open pocket that can receive and retain papers.
  • The inner flap portion 7B is also provided with a slot 13 formed therein at a selected location in order to receive smaller items of paper, cards, or the like.
  • The wallet is provided with punch holes 14 on either side of the hinge 4 to enable the wallet to be mounted in a ring file, leaver arch file or the like.
  • The sheet of card 6 that forms the rear face of the file, as illustrated, is provided, adjacent the free edge 15 thereof defined by the hinge line 10, with a plurality of arcuate perforated lines 16 defining semi-circular regions 17, the diameters which form the edges of said semicircular regions lying at the free edge of the flap. The regions 17 can form indexing tabs as will be described.
  • In use of the described wallet documents may be retained within the pockets formed by the wallet, and in the various slit defined by the wallet. However, a selected one of the arcuate perforated lines (or more than one of the arcuate perforated lines) may be broken, and the resultant semi-circular region 17 may then be bent to extend outwardly beyond the edge of the wallet, thus forming an indexing or identifying tab 18. Appropriate information may be written on to the tab, or a label carrying for example, an indexing letter may be adhered to the tab.
  • It is thus to be envisaged that if a plurality of wallets as described are mounted, for example, in a lever arch file, a different selected tab 18 on each wallet may be folded to extend outwardly from the free edge of the wallet, and appropriate indexing marks, or other identifying marks may be provided on the resultant tabs, so that the tabs act as indexing or identifying tabs.
  • Whilst the invention has been described with reference to tabs of arcuate form it is to be understood that the indexing tabs may be of any convenient shape and may thus be triangular, square, or of any other appropriate form. Also, whilst the invention has been described with reference to an example of a wallet adapted to be mounted in a ring binder it is to be appreciated that the invention may be applied to other types of wallet or other stationery products adapted to hold and retain papers or the like.
  • Whilst the invention has been described with reference to an embodiment fabricated from light card, it is to be appreciated that many alternative materials may be utilised in the manufacture of alternative embodiments of the invention.
  • The features disclosed in the foregoing description, in the following claims and/or in the accompanying drawings may, both separately and in any combination thereof, be material for realising the invention in diverse forms thereof.
