Definitions
- the present invention relates to setting device for shape rolling mills comprising laterally adjustable, freely rotating shaping wheels or disks, said shaping wheels being mounted on wheel holders that can be attached to a beam rail which extends transversely to the shaping direction, in a specific position on said rail.
- Shaped thin metal sheet is produced by passing flat thin metal sheet through a shaping mill, which in ⁇ cludes carrier beams that extend transversely to the shaping direction and which carry the shaping wheels that shape the thin metal sheet.
- carrier beams and shaping wheels are arranged both above and beneath the path in which the thin metal sheet, or plate, is fed through the mill stand.
- Respective carrier beams and shaping wheels fitted thereto are disposed sequen- tially in several stages in the feed direction and because the width of the metal sheet becomes smaller as the sheet is shaped, the shaping wheels are located progressively closer together on the carrier beams in the feed direction.
- the height of the shaping wheels is also changed, so that the extent to which the wheels overlap one another increases successively in the feed direction. Because not always one and the same shape is produced in the shaping mill, it is necessary to set the shaping wheels on their respec- tive beam rails accurately and carefully, which is a time consuming task.
- An object of the present invention is to provide for such a shaping mill a setting device which will enable the shaping wheels thereof to be adjusted to a correct setting on their individual carrier beams more easily. This object is achieved with a setting device having the characteristic features set forth in the following claims.
- Fig. 1 is a schematic side view of a carrier beam rail which has mounted thereon a shaping roll setting device in accordance with the invention
- Fig. 2 is a schematic partially sectioned front view of carrier beam that has a beam rail and a guide strip attached thereto in accordance with the invention
- Fi ⁇ . 3 is a schematic front view of part of a carrier beam with a wheel holder and a shaping wheel attached thereto, and also shows parts of the overlying shaping wheels that coact with said wheel and a thin metal sheet being shaped between the wheels
- Fi ⁇ . 4 illustrates an auxiliary device for fitting the inven ⁇ tive setting device.
- Figure 1 is a side view of a carrier beam 1 which extends transversely to the shaping direction of a shaping mill, i.e. at right angles to the direction in which the metal sheet to be shaped or profiled is advanced through the mill stand.
- Attached to the beam 1 is a beam rail 2 to which the foot or base 3 of a wheel holder 4 is fitted, said holder carrying a shaping wheel or disk 5.
- the rail 2 may have a dovetail cross-sectional shape and the foot 3 of the holder 4 provided on one side thereof with a correspondingly recessed part, so that the holder will be held securely on the rail 2.
- Mount ⁇ ed on the other end of the foot 3 is a locking device 6 which functions to lock the holder 4 firmly to the rail 2.
- the rail 2 has formed therein a longitudinally extending groove 7 which receives a guide strip 8.
- the guide strip 8 includes guide means 9 which project up from the strip 8 and coact with the foot 3 of the holder 4.
- the guide strip 8 is configured particularly for each shape and shaping station in the mill.
- the guide means 9 mounted on the guide strip 8 may conve ⁇ niently have the form of a socket head cap screw whose head projects into a recess 10 provided in the under- surface of the foot 3. (see also Fig. 3).
- Figure 2 is a schematic front view of a carrier beam 1 with a beam rail 2 fitted thereto.
- a screw threaded hole through which a socket head cap screw can be screwed into a corresponding hole in the strip 8, so as to position the strip precisely in relation to the rail 2.
- socket head cap screws 9 or equivalent devices are then inserted in the strip 8, which in turn later guide the wheel holders when they are fitted to the rail 2.
- Figure 3 is a front view of a shaping wheel or disk 5 which is carried on a beam rail 2 by means of a holder 4.
- the foot 3 of the holder 4 has a recess 10 which fits laterally exactly over the guide means 9 (the socket head cap screw) secured in the guiding strip 8.
- the length of the recess 10 is conveniently much greater than the width of the recess, so as to enable the holder 4 to be fitted when the rail 2 has a dovetail cross-section as in the case of the Figure 1 embodi ⁇ ment.
- the width of the recess 10 may be such as to provide the holder 4 with a good fit on the guide means 9.
- the guide means 9 has the form of a socket head cap screw for instance, which has a completely circular head of uniform diameter.
- Figure 3 also shows the overlying wheels or disks 5' and 5", which are carried by corresponding holders, rails and beams (not shown).
- the thin metal sheet 12 that is shaped between the shaping wheels 5, 5' and 5'' .
- the centre of said means is in line with an outer edge of the shap ⁇ ing wheel 5.
- the strip 8 is essentially lose in the longitudinally extending groove 7 in the rail 2, and is guided in its longitudinal direction solely by the head of the guide screw 11.
- the overlying carrier beam includes a corresponding ar- rangement of beam rail, recess and strip but with the recess facing downwards in this case. Accordingly, the strip is held securely in the groove 7 by means of a spring biassed strip holder 13, as shown in Figure 4, whereas a wheel holder is screwed securely in place while guided by the guide on the strip 8.
- the holder When the holder has been screwed firmly to the rail 2, guided by the guide means on the strip, the holder will, in turn, hold the strip 8 firmly in the groove 7, so that the strip 8 is no longer able to fall from the groove.
- the resilient strip holder 13 can then be loosened and removed and used to fit the next strip.
- the present invention provides a very simple means for setting the positions of the shaping wheels when fitting the wheels to respective carrier beams, in that the inventive guide strip with guide means en ⁇ ables the wheel holders and wheels to be placed re ⁇ peatedly and precisely in their correct positions.
- a separate strip for each type of shape to be produced in the mill is manufactured for each station, both for the upper and the lower carrier beam, and the strips are labelled or otherwise marked so that they can be easily placed in the correct station, upper or lower station, when the shape concerned is to be formed,' whereafter the wheel holders with the shaping wheels are screwed to the beam rail, guided by the guide means on the strip accommodated by the beam rail.
