Definitions
- the present invention relates to a method of fabricating a knotted carpet, where strands, in particular strands of velvet, are cut and knotted around at least one warp thread, each strand to be knotted being brought to an area of warp threads where the knotting will take place and is then tied with the help of knotting pliers around at least one first warp thread of said area.
- the invention also relates to a device for implementing the method.
- Such a method and such a device are known from European patent application No. 0 098 245.
- velor strands coming from a thread unloading station are brought in front of the warp threads, in particular the mesh of a canvas in an area where knotting should take place.
- the strand is then taken up by a needle and tied around two warp threads using a knotting pliers.
- a disadvantage of the known method and device is that it requires relatively complex machines performing complex movements, which makes these machines very expensive and subject to frequent maintenance.
- the invention aims to achieve a method and a device where a less complex machine is used.
- a method according to the invention is characterized in that before knotting said strand, said first warp thread and a second warp thread adjacent to said first warp thread are moved towards said strand, said first and second warp threads then being spaced apart from each other, and in that said strand is then folded around said first and second warp threads, the knotting pliers being then brought between said first and second warp threads and the ends of said strand being seized using said knotting pliers, said warp threads then being brought back to their starting position while the knotting pliers are moved and knots the strand by applying traction on said strand and brings it towards a weft thread the closest.
- the displacement of two warp threads is a simple operation which does not require complex means and also makes it possible to use simple means for knotting.
- the fact that said first and second warp yarn are moved relative to the other warp yarns and that they are spaced apart from one another makes it possible to pass the knotting clamp between said warp yarns.
- the knotting itself is done by folding the strand around the two warp threads and by grabbing the ends of the strand using the knotting pliers which then apply traction to the strand and bring it towards a weft thread where the knotted strand then comes to rest.
- the method according to the invention is characterized in that said strand is knotted in closed loops around said first and second warp threads using said knotting pliers.
- the method according to the invention is characterized in that said strand is folded back in closed loop around the first warp thread and in open loop around the second warp thread using the knotting pliers.
- a preferred form of a method according to the invention is characterized in that a pick is inserted in sawtooth or sinusoidal fashion between the warp threads. This makes it easier to introduce picks.
- the device according to the invention is characterized in that it comprises a displacement member arranged to move towards said strand at least a first and a second warp thread adjacent to said first warp thread and in that the flap member tement is arranged to fold substantially U-shaped said strand around said first and second warp threads, said knotting pliers being arranged on the same side of the warp threads as said strand and placed on a transport element arranged to bring said knotting pliers between said first and second warp threads.
- a first preferred form of a device according to the invention is characterized in that the folding member comprises a set of levers arranged to pivot around at least one axis. This allows you to quickly and reliably carry out the strand folding movement.
- a second preferred form of a device according to the invention is characterized in that the folding member comprises two tongues provided with two notches. A simple construction is thus obtained.
- a third preferred form of a device according to the invention is characterized in that the folding member is mounted on a first disc arranged to be driven in rotation.
- a fourth preferred form of a device according to the invention is characterized in that each lever is provided with a gripping spring arranged to grip and hold a strand. Correct strand alignment is thus obtained.
- a fifth preferred form of a device according to the invention is characterized in that the knotting station comprises at least one pair of hooks arranged to grip and separate said first and second warp threads.
- the use of hooks is entirely appropriate for gripping and spreading the warp threads because they are elements of a simple and reliable construction.
- the device according to the invention comprises a second disc provided with a flange comprising at least one window and a gripping element arranged to hold said strand at height of said window, said folding member being mounted within a perimeter of said second disc, which is arranged in rotation to each time bring said window up to a front face of said folding member. So we get a reia- very good working frequency even with a single folding device.

- Figures 26 and 27 each illustrate a particular way to place picks between the warp son.
- a Persian or Senneh knot ( Figure 3) is characterized by the fact that the strand is folded back in a closed loop around a first warp thread 1 and folded back in. open loop around a second warp thread 2.
- the first and second warp threads are either in the same plane or in two different planes.
- the process according to the invention applies equally well to the knotting of Ghiordès knots as of Senneh knots.
- FIG. 4 illustrates schematically and in perspective a device according to the invention.
- the device comprises a wire distributor 3 which operates in a manner comparable to that of a bar typewriter.
- the wire distributor comprises a series of hollow tubes 4 which are arranged equidistantly on a conical surface defined by the circles of radii R. and R R located in two orthogonal planes (a, b) distant from each other.
- Each tube preferably having its slightly curved exhaust end, which allows better positioning of the strand as will be explained below.
- each tube passes a wire of determined color 5.
- Each tube is supported, on the one hand by a toric orifice 6, formed in a support plate placed orthogonally to the axis XX 'and on the other hand by an articulated yoke 7 placed at the end of a piston rod 8 or electromagnet.
- Pistons or electromagnets 9 are placed in the plane b, orthogonal to XX 'and positioned radially with respect to the point B, breakthrough point of XX' in the plane b.
- the piston or the corresponding electromagnet is activated.
- the radial movement of the yoke 7 is designed so that at the end of the stroke, the exhaust of the tube 4 is in the axis XX '.
- the guide tube 4 is rigidly fixed to the end of the rod 8 of the piston 9.
- the other end of the guide tube is for example connected to a plastic tube by which the colored thread is brought.
- the plastic tube making it possible to easily follow the movement of the rod 8 of the piston 9 itself biased relative to the axis XX '.
- the piston is therefore placed on a conical surface of axis of symmetry XX 'and the apex B.
- the colored wire is brought in such a way in the guide tube that a piece of wire 10 opens out from the free end of the guide tube over a distance sufficient to be gripped by a clamp when the guide tube is in the lowered position in the axis XX '.
- This clamp is part of a folding member 11 ( Figure 4) and is for example constituted by two springs 12 and 13 placed on levers 14 and 15 themselves placed on a first disc 16 arranged to rotate around the axis ZZ 1 .
- the clamp can also consist of a conventional clamp with two branches which grips the colored wire to bring it towards the draw-down member.
- Figure 7 shows another embodiment where the folding member 17 is mounted above a second disc 18 and along an axis LL '.
- the second disc is provided with a flange 20 comprising at least one, but preferably several windows 19 as illustrated in FIG. 8, which shows a partial section of this ledge.
- the rim 20 extends upwards and at least partially covers the folding member 17, which is inside the perimeter and which is not fixed to the second disc and which therefore does not follow the movement of rotation of the second disc.
- On either side of the center of each window, on the edge of the second disc are two gripping elements, for example formed by springs 12 and 13.
- the windows each time allow the passage of a front face of said member drawdown 17 when a strand is brought by rotation of the second disc in front of a pair of warp threads.
- the second disc 12 is mounted on an axis, itself connected to a motor making it possible to drive the discs in rotation.
- the device according to the invention comprises a cutting member 22 (FIG. 7) disposed downstream of the thread distributor.
- This cutting member comprises for example a cutting blade which abuts against an impact point 23 after the strand has been gripped by the pliers.
- the point of impact 23 itself forming part of the disc 16 or 18.
- the cutting member 18 is rotated and rotates at an angle ⁇ . During this rotation the gripper grasps the end of the selected wire and holds it. After rotation around an angle p, the cutting member is actuated and cuts a strand which is then held by the gripping elements 12 and 13. In the example of FIG. 4, after each rotation p of the first disc and cutting, a strand is held by the springs 12 and 13 forming an integral part of each movable folding member. In another embodiment, the cutting member is for example formed of a pair of scissors.
- FIG 9 illustrates a first preferred form of a folding member according to the invention.
- This member comprises the gripping springs 12 and 13 placed on the levers 14 and 15 already mentioned above.
- the gripping springs are preferably crimped at the ends of the levers in two cavities fitted for this purpose.
- the spring 12 is for example with a left pitch while the spring 13 is with a right pitch.
- the levers 14 respectively 15 are connected by means of connecting rods 24 respectively 25 to a bar 26. The centers of rotation of these levers being located respectively at 27 and 28.
- the bar 26 is advanced towards the axis XX 'along the axis YY'.
- the connecting rods 24 and 25 then exert a force on the levers 14 and 15 which will rotate them around the axes 27 and 28 and fold down substantially in the shape of a U around the warp threads 1 and 2 the strand 21 held by the springs 12 and 13 and even so that the ends of the strand will approach.
- the levers are moved so that the gripping springs move away from the peripheral edge of the disc 16 and come together to bring the ends of the strand towards each other.
- the front part of the folding member penetrates through the window and comes to grip the strand which is then folded down. After this operation, this front part is removed to allow the rotation of the disc and bring another window and therefore another strand.
- Figure 11 illustrates a second preferential form of a folding member according to the invention.
- the folding member comprises two pushing tabs actuated by a bar 26 and two connecting rods 29 and 30.
- the connecting rods 29 and 30 are respectively connected to the tabs 31 and 32, each of these tabs being provided with a notch 33, 34 in the form of a U, a V or a combination of the two.
- the strand then becomes housed in the notches substantially parallel to the bar.
- FIGS 12 and 13 illustrate a third preferred form of a folding member where the levers 35 and 36 pivot about two axes of rotation 37 and 38.
- the levers each have a shape comparable to that of a hand. The hands push the strand to fold it into a U shape.
- FIGS. 14 and 15 illustrate a fourth preferred form of a folding member in which the levers are profiled in the form of a cam 39, 40.
- the folding of these levers being ensured by a fork 43 carrying at its ends two bearings with balls 41, 42, while their opening is ensured by return springs coaxial with the two pivot axes.
- the device For the knotting of the strand around the two warp threads, the device according to the invention comprises a displacement member arranged to move towards the strand 21 a first 1 and a second 2 adjacent warp thread.
- this displacement member is formed by a piston 44 arranged to be displaced in the area delimited by the warp threads.
- the head of the piston 44 pushes on two adjacent warp threads 1 and 2 and moves them towards the strand 21 to be tied.
- a pair of hooks 45, 46 is arranged on the other side of the warp threads than that where the piston 44 is located (FIG. 17) a pair of hooks 45, 46 is arranged.
- hooks are mounted on motors 47, 48, preferably electric or pneumatic motors, making it possible to oscillate the hooks intended to grip and separate the two warp threads that the piston 44 pushes forward.
- motors 47, 48 preferably electric or pneumatic motors, making it possible to oscillate the hooks intended to grip and separate the two warp threads that the piston 44 pushes forward.
- Below the hooks and on the same side as the latter with respect to the chain son ply is a knotting pliers 49 placed on a transport element (not shown in the drawing) arranged to bring said knotting pliers between the warp threads taken up by the hooks and cause the knotting pliers to move back and forth relative to the hooks.
- a velvet strand is selected by activating the piston 9 carrying the guide tube 4 with the selected colored thread.
- the piston moves the guide tube so that this wire which opens out from the guide tube is grasped by the clamp of the folding member.
- the disc is rotated at an angle (p) which will have the effect of pulling a piece of wire outside the guide tube. This end of the wire is then hooked using the gripping springs 12 and 13.
- the cutting member 22 is actuated to cut a strand 21 of the selected color thread.
- the strand is gripped and the disc moved in rotation to be brought with a window in front of the folding member. When a strand has been cut, it is brought before the warp threads around which it will be knotted.
- Each hook is offset relative to its axis of oscillation which allows automatic separation of the warp threads when traction is exerted on them using the hooks.
- Figure 20 shows how, by a simple forward pull of the hooks, the warp threads are spread to allow 1 1 -
- the strand 21 After the two warp threads 1 and 2 have been moved towards the strand 21, the latter is folded down substantially in the shape of a U. As explained previously, the bar 26 is pushed towards the strand and the levers pivot respectively about their axis . The strand is thus placed in a U around the two warp threads as illustrated in FIG. 10.
- FIGS. 21 and 22 show how the knotting pliers 49 go up between the warp threads to come and grip the two ends of the strand folded back in a U shape.
- the knotting pliers 49 When the knotting pliers 49 have grasped the ends of the strand, the hooks 45 and 46 return to their starting position and spread apart, as illustrated in FIG. 23, so as to release the warp threads. The knotter then descends ( Figure 24) and drives down the knot already formed but not yet tightened.
- FIG. 24 also shows that when the hooks have released the warp threads, the head 45 of the piston 44 is also withdrawn, thus completely freeing the warp threads. The knotting pliers are released at this time from the warp threads between which they were and continue their downward movement.
- FIG. 26 respectively 27 illustrates a first respectively a second embodiment of the passage of picks. Between two rows of knots, it is common to find one, two or even three picks. The insertion of these picks by hand is always done section by section and never with a jet. In all cases at least one of the picks has a length which greatly exceeds the width of the width of the carpet. This manual procedure is slow. In the process according to the invention the picks are inserted along an undulating path so as to have a pick length exceeding the width of the width. In the example of FIG. 26 respec ⁇ tively 27, the pick 50 respectively 51 is inserted in a sawtooth fashion respectively in a sinusoidal manner. The pick wire ramp allows for greater ease in placing picks.
