  • One of the objects of the present invention relates to the industrial production of a cheap and ready-to-use packaging (dose-unit) for pharmaceutical products, insecticides, cosmetics or various chemicals, which packaging is intended to contain at least two substances which cannot be brought into contact for a long time and must therefore be mixed just before use.
  • active pharmaceutical or cosmetic substances are preferably used in the form of solutions or mixtures with other ingredients or excipients.
  • these active substances are less stable in solution than in the solid state, or even incompatible with some of the co-ingredients or additives in the solution in question. This is in particular due to the fact that when such mixtures are heated, for example during a sterilization process, or kept for an extended period, they undergo chemical reactions which render their components totally inactive or at least in strongly decrease activity.
  • a recently developed device for perfuming habitable rooms consists of a bag of specially adapted polymeric material containing a perfuming solution (see International Application WO 81/00051 on this subject).
  • the perfume vapors diffuse slowly through the polymeric material wall and can thus perfume the surrounding space for an extended period.
  • the perfume solution is kept in a compartment with walls impermeable to perfume vapors and one of the joints of which can be ruptured under the effect of external pressure, then, just before use, the walls of said joint once ruptured, the solution passes into a compartment with walls made of polymeric material permeable to vapors of perfumes which can then diffuse uniformly into the ambient atmosphere.
  • the present invention relates to a plastic packaging with multiple compartments for liquid and solid products, characterized in that it comprises a joint common to two compartments consisting of at least two sheets of polymeric material, one of which breaks the interior along a longitudinal axis without the external walls of said packaging breaking when an external pressure is applied to one of the compartments.
  • the present invention also relates to a plastic packaging with two compartments as defined above, characterized in that said compartments are of different volumes and that the smallest of the two is housed inside the larger one and the rupture of the small compartment is caused by external pressure applied to the large compartment.
  • the invention also relates to a plastic packaging with multiple compartments as defined above, intended to contain perfumes, insecticides or other active substances, characterized in that at least one of the walls of said compartments consists of a sheet of polymeric material allowing the diffusion outside of said perfumes, insecticides or other active substances.
  • the sheet of polymeric material rupturing from the inside along a longitudinal axis under the effect of an external pressure consists of a polymeric material of the foam type.
  • Such materials include, in particular, polyethylene, polypropylene, polyamides, polyvinyl chloride and polyesters; they are preferably in the form of sheets with a thickness of between approximately 0.005 and 0.2 mm.
  • a plastic packaging with multiple compartments which can be sterilized by heat, defined as indicated above.
  • a plastic packaging with multiple compartments intended for perfuming the ambient atmosphere consists of a device in which one of the compartments is designed to serve as a sealed container for the perfume solution, the other being made of a polymeric material permeable to perfume vapors.
  • the latter compartment can, of course, be executed in an aesthetically attractive form, such as a flower or a fruit for example.
  • the sealed container opens, under the pressure of a finger, by rupture of the ad hoc seal and the perfume solution enters the compartment - made of polymeric material permeable to perfume vapors which then diffuse slowly in the surrounding space.
  • At least one of the compartments of said plastic packaging consists of the combination of a waterproof outer sheet (cover sheet) and a sheet of polymeric foam-type material attached to the inner part of said cover sheet.
  • This foam type sheet is relatively resistant to transverse traction but can on the other hand be easily torn into two parts along a longitudinal plane.
  • the internal resistance of the foam type sheet does not only depend on the polymeric material used but also, to a large extent, on the density of said foam. Control of this last factor therefore allows precise control of the breaking strength: it can in particular be easily maintained at a constant value during the mass production of such devices.
  • the thickness of the foam-type sheet is preferably between approximately 0.005 and 0.2 mm: this type of sheet can be obtained commercially (see European patent application no. 0 004 633 on this subject).
  • the foam type sheet can be obtained from polyethylene, polypropylene, polyamide, polyvinyl chloride, polyester, polystyrene or any other suitable polymeric material.
  • the cover sheet is preferably made of polyamide, polyester, polyethylene, polypropylene or any other polymeric material commonly used for the manufacture of packaging sheets.
  • the compartment to be opened by rupture consists of two-layer foam type sheets (foam type sheet proper + cover sheet). It is also possible to fix, by welding or by means of an adhesive, the foam-type sheet (5) of a so-called two-layer sheet to the internal face (6) of the outer envelope (7). An internal pocket (S) is thus formed which can be broken by the application of a slight external pressure (9) and one of the walls of which consists of said two-layer sheet, the other being formed by that of the outer casing (FIG. 6).   • FIG. 1 shows a view of a filled package, obtained according to a particular implementation of the invention, intended for the packaging of solutions for infusion. It consists in particular of a tear-away internal pocket (10) and an external envelope (11), all heat-sealed by solid seal (12).
  • FIG. 2 is a cross section of a package with two compartments according to the invention, each of said compartments containing a liquid. In its upper and lower parts, it comprises a solid heat-sealed seal (12), the two compartments being separated by a tearable seal (13) according to the invention.
  • FIG. 3 is a longitudinal section of a package with two compartments according to the invention and containing in its upper part a liquid such as a perfume for example, the lower compartment being empty. In its upper and lower parts, it comprises a solid heat-sealed seal (12), the two compartments being separated by a tearable seal (13) according to the invention.
  • FIG. 4 is an enlarged section of a tearable seal (composite sheet) separating two compartments according to the invention, before rupture.
  • FIG. 5 is an enlarged section of this same joint when it begins to rupture from the inside.
  • FIG. 6 is an enlarged section of the tearable seal (13) separating the two compartments of the packaging according to the invention shown in FIG. 2.
