Abstract
En la presente invención se describe un lente oftálmico para colocarse sobre la superficie anterior del ojo. Dicho lente tiene impregnado en el mismo, o tiene como revestimiento sobre la superficie del mismo, un éster de un alcohol alifático polihídrico y un ácido graso, estando presente dicho éster en una cantidad que es efectiva para prevenir o reducir la liberación de toxinas bacterianas cuando dicho lente se expone a dichas toxinas, y siendo dicho éster seleccionado del grupo que consiste de: a) monoésteres de un alcohol alifático polihídrico y un ácido graso que contiene de 8 a 18 átomos de carbono, y en donde dicho monoéster tiene por lo menos un grupo hidroxilo asociado con su residuo de alcohol alifático; b) diésteres de un alcohol alifático polihídrico y un ácido graso que contiene de 8 a 18 átomos de carbono, y en donde dicho diéster tiene por lo menos un grupo hidroxilo asociado con su residuo de alcohol alifático; y c) mezclas de dichos monoésteres y diésteres. Se caracteriza dicho invento porque al ácido graso es ácido láurico y porque el alcohol polihídrico es glicerol. El éster es monolaurato de glicerilo ó una mezcla de monolaurato de glicerilo y dilaurato de glicerilo, tambie´n puede ser monocaprilato de glicerilo, caprato de glicerilo, o una mezcla de ambos; monomiristato de glicerilo, monopalmitato de glicerilo, monoestearato de glicerilo ó monooleato de glicerilo. Dicho lente es un lente de contacto o de vendaje corneal y es un lente de contacto de hidrogel blando.
